    My Trip Report

An early start for me but my American Airlines flight from Manchester to Chicago left on time and arrived in to Chicago 20 minutes early, now I took the Chicago route a year ago and after that experience I said I wouldn’t go this way again but cheapness talks and I listen so here I am. I was sat near the front of the plane so I could make the dash once I got off, I make my way quickly to immigration only to find that the queue is longer than last year, I joined the line and it moves quick then slow then quick then, well you get the idea. After about 1 hour and 20 minutes I’m clear and collect my luggage before going through customs and then re checking my luggage, I head to another terminal and get through security and arrive at the gate about 10 minutes before they start boarding, never going via Chicago again, (heard that somewhere before.)

A nice easy flight in to Vegas and arrive 4.35pm a nice 20 minutes early, I collect my luggage and jump in to a taxi to the Stratosphere , a fairly quick check in and get up to my room and get unpacked, showered and changed before heading back down to get something to eat. I visit the 50’s Diner that they have and have an enjoyable snack before moving over to the C bar and I grab a beer. A guy sits next to me and attempts to start a conversation, he tells me how he has had his scooter stolen, and this is not the first time he has had one stolen either, I know what’s coming up and after a couple of minutes he asks me if I have a dollar to spare for the bus, bang there it is that's what I was waiting for, I give him a dollar anyway and he disappears.
I ordered another beer and carried on looking around, after a while a couple of working girls turn up and start to work their game on a middle aged guy who’s sat to my left wearing a cowboy hat,(the guy not the hookers.) I decide it’s time to move on before they get to me.

I get a taxi down to Mirage and have a wander round, and a drink in there before moving on to the piano bar in Harrahs, I only have one drink as it’s bottle only and I prefer draught especially when I’m paying for it. I have a walk through the Quad and Flamingo and make my way to Tuscany where I stayed earlier this year.
I have a couple of drinks in there and then walk back to the strip via Ballys and Paris although I stop off In Paris for a drink on the way. I jump on the Deuce back to the Strat and finish my night in there with a couple of drinks before catching up on some sleep.

Coming Up …. VP, drinking, a visit to the Count’s, drinking, Shania Twain and yes drinking oh and my first Halloween in Vegas

    Monday 28th

Despite the fact I hadn’t had that much sleep I was up fairly early and had breakfast at the Diner before catching the bus and going onto the Strip, around Circus Circus the bus was getting pretty packed so I decided to get off and have a walk as it is the one thing I do like to do in Vegas.

I got off and the wind was pretty strong against me but I carried on and eventually got to TI and got inside to get away from what was a hell of a wind, I then ambled down that side of the Strip during the next couple of hours getting as far as NYNY before turning back and crossing over and wandering back up the other side although I was pretty much just walking back towards the Strat although I was very much wind assisted by now.
I made a visit to the Wynn which I had never been in before despite this being my 5th visit, I was impressed by it, although it might be slightly out of my price range for actually stopping at. After coming out of there I walked a bit more and the decision was do I wait for the Deuce or carry on walking, I went for walking, but by the time I got further on the wind got stronger and it was basically pushing me along, so much so I was having to resist be blown in to the road when waiting at a crossing.

I got up to the crossing at Sahara Ave and waited to cross, there was a homeless guy there waiting on the traffic island, I was waiting for him to ask but he never bothered me, but when the traffic came to a stand he went over and asked whoever was in the car for some change, although he could have made an effort and cleaned their windscreen for them, but I hate to think how he might of done it.
I get back to the Stratosphere and after a quick visit to my room I come back down and hit the bar, I decide to play VP at the bar and I stick $20 in and see how long it lasts, I don’t do too bad and get 5 draught beers out of it before deciding it is food time again and I go to the Diner again, and a jumbo hot dog and fries does the trick. I head up to my room and plump myself on the bed for a short rest before getting changed to head back out and the idea was to go Downtown.
Well that was the plan but my body wanted more sleep than I planned for and I woke up at about 11.45pm, if I was at home then it would have been the end of my night, but this is Vegas so I freshen up and get changed and head back down to the bar, $20 in VP to start and I enjoy a few drinks while brushing off the local working girls, by 3am I decide it’s time for some sleep and head up to my room.

I arrived in the lovely 80 degree weather on the 27th as well and sure got a slap of cold and wind that nearly blew me over on the 28th. I left on the 1st. Kudos to you for the quick start on your TR. I'm getting to mine lol.

    Tuesday 29th

I woke up about 10.30am and got washed changed and headed down to the casino, I grabbed a soft drink before going out to the bus stop to catch the deuce down to the strip. I began chatting to a couple who were probably in their late 50’s and they told me they hadn’t been in Vegas for a few years and they were enquiring about the buses, I told them about the deuce and the $8 24 hour pass and they were thankful for my help and as they started to walk away the conversation went like this.

    Man: Are you Australian?
    Me: (Smiling) no I’m English.
Woman: I went to London once, it rained all the time.
Me: Yeah it does that a lot

The bus pulled in and I had my $8 ready to get my ticket as the machine outside the Stratosphere is card only, could be something to do with the area but I’m only guessing on that. The bus driver waves me down the bus so I figure his machine must not of been working, I jump off the bus at Caesers and have a wander around the Forum shops particularly the memorabilia shops which I enjoy looking around although unable to afford any of the stuff they have.
Now I had been thinking about going to see Shania Twain before I had gone out to Vegas and I went to have a look at the box office to see how the queue was and it was fairly long so I thought I’d come back later. I had a walk down to Tuscany to get something to eat in the café and after a grilled chicken sandwich I’m ready to hit the bar and start with a draught beer while hitting the VP.
After about an hour I decide to head back Caesers and see how the box office queue is getting on and it has shortened a bit, well a lot really there’s only 3 people in it now, so I buy a ticket on the 1st balcony as the view is better than the 2nd balcony and I don’t have $250 to sit near the front.

I notice one of the sports book screens is showing a live English soccer match Arsenal vs Chelsea but it is coming up to half time so I head up over to the sports bar in Mirage as the one in Caesers hasn’t got it on. The Mirage does have it on so I sit down and get a large beer, a couple sit near me and after a while a conversation starts up, she recognises my accent and says she likes an English accent (at least she didn’t think I was an Aussie.) She tells me she’s from Texas and that they love a English accent there and I should get myself there as I would have a great time with my accent, mm might try that out one day, they leave after a while and I carry on watching the game then when that’s finished I start watching another and grab another large beer.

Time to head back to the hotel and I catch the deuce back up to the Strat and once there it’s shower and change before getting back on the deuce and heading downtown, once there I make my over to the El Cortez and go and grab something to eat and as I’m quite hungry I opt for the prime rib which I always enjoy there. Then it’s off for a walk around Fremont Street and a wander around the usual haunts before settling in the Golden Gate for a few beers, there I’m greeted by one of the bar staff who’s called Curly, he always recognises me and remarks it’s not that long since I was last in town.
I spend a couple hours here drinking and enjoying the view before heading back on to Fremont to walk down to the deuce stop, as I’m walking a woman starts to walk alongside me offering me some company, I politely decline her offer and she slows down her walking pace and as she does she says to me and I quote “I just want to give you a blowjob.” I get on the deuce and head back to the Strat and finish off the evening with a couple or so drinks in the bar before bed

    Wednesday 30th

Woke up about 11am on Wednesday and after a shower got dressed and went down to the bar for a couple of soft drinks to wake me up. My plan was to go and visit Count’s Kustoms which is featured in the tv show Counting Cars, I went out to get a taxi and after the guy who was running the taxi line checked with the driver to make sure they knew where it was as some drivers don’t know where it is.
It is not that far from the Stratosphere and the taxi cost about $8, it is on a small industrial area and as I went to go inside I opened the door and I held it open for a guy behind me and as I turned I seen it was Roli who is one of the guys in the show. Once inside I was asked to sign in and told that I could take pictures but not video, I know it is not a large collection but there are some great cars in there and also spotted some that I had seen featured in the show, after looking around at the cars and bikes and taking some pictures I bought a couple of t shirts from the shop and then went outside and took some more pictures.

Rather than wait for a cab I decided to walk back to the Stratosphere and it isn’t that far and after about 20 minutes or so I was just coming up to the largest Gift Shop which I had never been in so I decided to have a look inside, as I got through the door I was told by a shop assistant that I would have to leave the carrier bag I had with them at the door and I was given a piece of card with a number on it.
I walked round briefly but wasn’t that interested in anything they had so I went to the door to get my carrier bag back and I headed back to the Stratosphere.

I went up to my room to dump my stuff off and headed back down to the casino, I was a bit hungry by now so went in to the Diner and got something to eat. The rest of the afternoon was spent playing VP at the bar and getting a few drinks as well, after about 2 hours I eventually went back up to my room , to get showered and changed before heading out down to Caesars to watch Shania Twain, I jumped on the Deuce and got down to Caesars I was a little early and although people were going in to the Colosseum, I thought it would be better to get a drink in the casino first before going in, after a beer I went in and took my seat and chatted for a while to a guy who was sat next to me before the show started.
I do enjoy her music and I thought the show was great not only her singing but the scenery and set changes were something else as well and I thought it was well worth the money to see her show.

After the show I was a bit hungry so went over to the food court at Ballys and enjoyed a foot long from Subway and then went to find somewhere so I could wash it down, I ended up at the Twin Peaks bar, now you are probably thinking you know the reason I went there, but actually I do enjoy their very cold beer and I also like watching people falling off the climbing wall. Oh alright then, I also went as I like my beer served by very nice looking women in low cut tops with lots of cleavage.
After Twin Peaks I went to the Rock Bar at Planet Hollywood for a drink then made my way over to Paris and had about 3 (I think) in there before catching the deuce back to the Strat and a few drinks whist playing VP before heading off to bed.

    Thursday 31st Oct

I woke about 11.30 and got washed and dressed and made my way out to catch the Deuce, I jumped off at Bellagio and continued on foot down the Strip until I got to MGM where I had a wander around before grabbing a bite to eat at Mcdonalds. As this would probably be my last day on the Strip for this trip it was time for a bit of shopping and one visit I had to make was a visit to M and M World as my young daughter always wants something from there every time I visit Vegas, so I quickly get in there find what she has asked for and promptly leave (I would point out I paid before leaving).
I walked a bit further up the Strip before the opportunity of the Deuce pulling up to a bus stop as I walked by it presented itself, so I jumped on and headed back to the Stratosphere, before I got there the bus was filling up quickly as we went along and it seemed people were heading Downtown already. I got back to the Stratosphere and dumped my stuff in my room and went back down to the casino for some VP and a drink or two or three, I decide then it’s food time before I head over to Fremont, so I have something to eat at the Diner then up to my room for a shower and change and back down to the bar a quick drink.

I decide that getting a taxi would be a better idea as the bus will be mobbed, so I go out and get a cab, the driver is foreign and can’t really grasp why everyone goes nuts for Halloween, he drops me off at the Golden Nugget. I make my way through the hotel to get to Fremont St, well I try but there are so many people about in all sorts of wonderful costumes, I eventually get out on to Fremont Street and it’s just crazy wherever you look and there are so many people about, after a while I head to Hogs and Heifers bar and after having to show I.D to a guy on the door who was probably the same age as me I get inside and well what a wild place, I get a bottle of bud and have a look around, it’s probably made even madder by the fact it’s Halloween, if you like your music loud and your female bar staff using words that would make Gordon Ramsey blush then this is the place for you, I enjoyed the experience and would certainly go back again.

After leaving there and trying to get my hearing back on track, I make my way back on to Fremont St and listen to one of the live stages for a while before ending up in the Golden Gate where I find myself sitting next to two Smurfs at the bar, I have a few beers and end up talking to a guy from Oklahoma at the back end of the night, it is now getting a bit late and I get back out on Fremont St and the party has gone quiet and there isn’t many about so I grab a taxi back to the Stratosphere and a drink in the bar before bed. As I’m sat drinking playing VP I spot a familiar face at the bar, yes it’s the guy from Sunday who had is scooter stolen apparently, he sees me and gives a slight smile and I know he isn’t daft enough to try the same trick twice, and he doesn’t but goes and sits next to a guy a bit further round the bar, I grab one more drink and then head up to bed as it’s about 4 am by now.

Thanks for the latest instalment. Keep going, you're nearly done.

Sounds like you had a good time. Loved it that the lost scooter guy was spotted again!

    Friday 31st Oct

I woke about 12 after my late night and after a wake up shower I got dressed and headed down to the casino, I sat down at the bar and hit the VP, I started on a couple of coke’s for refreshment then went back on the beer and felt much better. I spent most of the afternoon just playing VP and having a few drinks, my mate who is a Vegas junkie texts me to ask if I will be Downtown on my last night in Vegas, I tell him I probably will go and have my last night there.
By late afternoon I was getting a bit hungry so went to the Diner for a bite to eat before heading up to my room for a rest and watch some tv.I decided against going downtown at night and due to getting up early for a 8 am flight I thought it would be better to end my weeks stay with an evening in the Stratosphere bar hooker watching. I must of dozed off and I was awoken by my phone going off, it was a text from a mate who was asking if I was out on Fremont that night, I text back saying because I was up early in the morning for my flight I was going just stay in the Stratosphere that night.
He then text’s me to tell me he is in Vegas as well and wanted to surprise me, he says he will get a taxi to the Strat and will have a drink with me, about 15 minutes later and he turns up and his original plan was to sneak up on me in the Golden Gate, but me not going up there screwed his plan a bit. We have a couple of drinks and he heads back Downtown to where he is staying, I have a couple more drinks before heading up to bed.

    Saturday 1st Nov

My alarm goes off at 5am and I don’t really want to get up but I know I have to, I’m already packed and ready so it’s a case of a wash and getting dressed and I’m ready to go after one final check that I have everything .Checkout is easy and I go and get a taxi from outside, he takes the scenic route and it’s a nice trip down the Strip so I can have one last look before I leave, I arrive at the airport and check in and go through security, it’s Burger King for breakfast and onto a flight to New York, arrive early there and have three hours to kill before my flight back to Manchester.
I splash out on the most expensive ham and cheese sandwich I have ever had washed down by a bottle of Coke, the flight home is good and I arrive very early in Manchester, but there is a plane at the gate we are going to so it’s a forty minute sit on the tarmac before I’m able to get off the plane.

As always a great trip to Vegas and time to start thinking when I can get back, maybe in May but I will have to wait and see.
