    My Trip Report

    Sunday 25th May

On arrival at Manchester Airport, I find out that my Delta flight to Atlanta is going to be nearly 2 hours late leaving, when I get to the desk they have already moved me onto a later flight from Atlanta to Vegas so I’m getting in Vegas at 8.30 pm nearly 2 hours later than originally planned.
But not much I can do about it so once I’m through security I get some to eat then head to a bar for a couple of drinks and a couple more after that before I finally board the plane. This is the first time I have used Delta and not got off to a good start, but I have a good seat with extras leg room, and they have on demand movies which is good, I start retro and watch Back To The Future first, then Skyfall and after that I’m looking through the films and what’s this, they have The Hangover so that has to be watched.

I arrive in Atlanta and breeze through immigration as they have a self service machine for part of it, I now have about 2 and1/2 hours here now, so it’s a bite to eat then find a bar and have a couple of drinks. I get on the final leg of the journey and the flight is easy and on time into Vegas. After picking up my luggage I get to the taxi stand and tell the driver to head to Treasure Island, he asks if I want the quick way which is going to cost more or the slower cheaper route, being as my trip was 2 hours longer, I just wanted to get to the hotel so I told him the quick way and I appreciated that he gave me the option.

Check in was easy and fairly quick and I got to my room on the 4th floor, I unpacked and hit the shower to freshen up, I soon down in the casino for a wonder about and I decide to go for a walk on the Strip and get as far down as Paris for a couple of beers before turning back and heading back to TI, when I get there I go to the Gilleys which is the cowboy/girl bar, I get inside and they have a competition on which is girl’s in bikini’s riding a mechanical bull, so I decide this is the place to finish the night off and by the time the bar is winding down I know it’s time for bed.

We flew with Delta, but were on the direct Virgin flight both ways. Several people on our flight had been switched from indirect.

I'm a big fan of Jet Blue, but have used Delta a few times on my most recent trips - last year when I went to New Orleans and a few weeks ago going to Vegas... Coincidentally 2 of the 4 flights with Delta have been delayed. I haven't used JetBlue in a while, but the times in the past that I did use them - most recently 3 years ago to go to Bahamas; very rarely - if ever - delayed...

    Monday 26th May

I woke up about 10 am and after getting washed and dressed made my way down to the casino and got a players card for TI and I go over to the bar and and start getting some points on it immediately, I have a couple of drinks while playing then decide to head out onto the Strip for a walk around.
The weather is hot as I walk around and I walk through Flamingo and have a wander into Crowell to have a look around and it certainly looks good, I make my way down Flamingo Road and head towards Tuscany as it’s a place I like after stopping there last year and they have a nice café there, once there I get a table in the café and order a sandwich and some fries along with a coke and after about 20 minutes wait the waiter approaches and asks if I had my food yet, I replied no and he said he would go and find out what’s going on, a few minutes later my food turns up and the waiter apologises for the wait although I wasn’t too bothered as I wasn’t in a hurry to go anywhere. When I had finished the waiter tells me that they will sort the bill out for me after I had to wait a while for my food, I thanked him and left a good tip.

I headed to the casino bar and got a drink and started on the VP again, after about 30 minutes it wasn’t going too well so decided to have a walk, so make my way up Flamingo Road upto Ballys, going in through the sportsbook entrance then having a walk through the casino and eventually ending up in Paris where I stop for a drink, then moving into to the Rock Bar at Planet Hollywood before ending up in Twin Peaks Bar.

After a drink at Twin Peaks I start to head back in the direction of TI and I cross over and walk toward Caesars and have a wander in there before walking up to Mirage and having a drink in there, then it’s a tram ride round to TI for some more VP for about an hour. I’m getting a bit hungry by now so I decide to try the Coffee Shop restaurant to get something to eat, I decide on the spaghetti and meatballs and to fair it is very filling.
Up to the room for a rest and watch a bit of tv and then a shower and ready to get back out there.

I have a couple of drinks in TI while playing VP before I head out into a very hot evening on the Strip, I go over to Harrah’s piano bar to start off the evening in there which is then followed by drinks in the Quad, Paris and the Rock Bar before walking back towards the Linq, I had walked through O’ Shea’s on my way out of the Quad and it was pretty busy so I headed there on my way back and it was even more lively so I stopped off for a drink or 4 in there.
I made my way back to TI and headed to Gilley’s which was still open for a couple more drinks before finishing my night at the casino bar where a couple of the working girls wondered about ,although they didn’t bother me as I played VP and I avoided making any eye contact, after losing a bit on VP I decided to call it a night and head for bed.

    Tuesday 27th May

I woke up about 11am and I was straight out and made my way down to the Coffee Shop for some late breakfast, I choose an omelette and hash brown which is filling, I head to the bar and stick a 20 in and start to play, I’m there for about an hour, (not playing with same 20 though for the hour).
I head out for a walk and walk down to PH, I go up the escalator and as I walk through the upper level that takes you onto the bridge over Harmon I notice a Vegas, com booth. I look at some of the trips and shows they are offering and I see the Annie Bananie VIP Pawns Stars tour, it’s $60 and I have read good reviews about it, unfortunately the booth is temporarily closed for a few minutes so I decide to call back. The Twin Peaks bar is just round the corner so I call in for a drink and watch some sport’s, I only have the one and then head back to the booth to see if It’s open which it is now, I get the tour booked for the following day.

I make my way back past PH and past the costume people and I have noticed in just a couple of days of being in Vegas that there are a lot of costume people dressed as minions from Despicable Me, have they been having a sale on these costumes, I must have counted about 5 within a short distance.
I go across to Mirage and sit at the sports bar and having a couple of large beers, then out to catch the tram to TI, for some more VP in there and of course a beer or two. The plan is to go Downtown tonight so I go back to my room for a shower and change and watch a bit of tv before heading out.
I go across to the Wynn to catch the deuce from there, just as I’m on the bridge and I can see the bus approaching so I up the walking pace a little and get to the stop just as the bus is pulling in, I jump on and get a 24 hour pass and enjoy the ride to Fremont.
Once there I make my way to El Cortez to get something to eat, I do like the café there after stopping there a couple years ago, I order the fried chicken and it goes down well. It’s then off for some VP play before heading out onto Fremont for a walk round.

I notice the usual costume people and some more as well, near nudity now seems to be the latest costume thing, they say less is more got to tell you it isn’t in most cases from what I seen, some weird and some disturbing, I didn’t spot any minions though.
As I make my way further down Fremont I notice a small crowd and a tv cameraman so I go over to see what’s going on, I’m just being nosey really but as I get to the crowd I see former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman there flanked by 3 security men, he doesn’t seemed to being interviewed by anyone so I don’t know what’s going on but he is walking towards Four Queens.
I carry on and eventually end up in Golden Gate and take a seat at the bar, I briefly chat to one of the staff behind the bar that I know from my previous visits, I also start talking to one of the other staff who is mostly serving me and she seemed nice and friendly.
I spend a couple of hours in there before saying goodbye and heading for the deuce. Time wise it’s not that late so I jump off the bus at Stratosphere , I stayed here last year and enjoyed drinking and the VP there, I head to the bar and it’s not too busy and doesn’t seem to be surrounded by working girls either which it was last year.

I don’t bother with the VP and just get a drink and chill listening to the music, I get a second beer and as I’m drinking out of the glass I notice a large crack at the top of it, being a bit sly I drink down to about halfway down before pointing out the crack to the barman who issues me with a full fresh beer.
I go back outside and don’t have to wait long before the deuce turns up and I climb aboard and make my way back to TI, It’s a couple of drinks in Gilley’s before it closes then onto the casino bar for some VP and some drink, I’m sat a couple of seats away from a woman who asks me if I mind her smoking, a working girl opening line that I have heard before, I tell her no and carry on with VP, I wait for the party question and she doesn’t disappoint and within seconds she asks if I want to party, I decline and she decides to give up.

But as one door closes another opens and a guy sits between me and her and she’s onto to him quickly and soon enough he moves over one seat to sit next to her, I’m still on VP but just watching to see how it develops, she seems to be reeling him in and they are still chatting as I call it a night and head up to bed.

I was awake by 11am and went down for a late breakfast and after getting filled up I went to the bar and hit the VP, I was kind of killing a little time as I going on the Pawn Stars tour at 2pm.
I get outside at about 10 minutes before being due to being picked up, the bus turned up on time and we set off to the first stop which was Counts Kustoms, I have been to Count’s before but this time with being on a tour the guide gave you more of an insight into some of the cars on view, there were some other vehicles on view that I hadn’t seen the last time I was there. Horny Mikes bus was there this time and also Danny’s motorhome that he uses for his band, even got a pic of Horny Mike albeit from a slight distance.

Next was Ricks Restorations, Ron was there for a picture opportunity before we were given a tour by one of the staff at Rick’s, unfortunately they were filming that day which meant two of the workshops were blocked off so we only got to see certain areas and because some things were in view that were featured in upcoming shows no pic were allowed in the tour area, we did get a bonus though as Rick came out of an office and said quick hello, he couldn’t stop though as he was busy filming.

It was over to the Pawn shop next and we drove past the back of the shop first where alleyway is which you see on the show when they are buying a car, we went inside and being the VIP tour we get to jump the queue, but there was no queue anyway, I think a lot say it when they visit here and they are right it does look smaller than it does on television.
Next we went to Downtown to visit two of the experts that feature on Pawn Stars, Toy Shack where I got to meet Johnny and Ultimate Sports Memorabilia where I got to meet Jeremy, final stop was ATM from the show Tanked, I don’t really watch this much so don’t know a lot about, but we were greeted by the General and he gave a brief talk about the show, not too much to see although they do have a few parrots in cages.

We headed back to TI to be dropped off, I thought it was a very good tour the guide was very good and not just for where we stopped but also on general sights and bits of Vegas history.
Once back at the hotel I went to get something to eat and then a rest and watching some tv before getting a shower and heading back out, as always start in the casino with VP and a couple of drinks.
After not hitting too much on the VP I make my way onto the Strip, crossing over and walking down to the Quad, I have a drink in there before moving onto O’ Shea’s for a couple where they have a band on, this has become one of my go to place on this trip, always lively and the bar staff are entertaining and friendly.

After a couple drinks there I move onto PH and have a drink in the bottle bar in the casino, first time I have had drink in one of the casino bars in there, seemed nice especially if you like watching dancing girls, which fortunately I do,
After that excitement I went over to Paris for a couple of drinks, before backtracking to some previous bars staring at PH again then into O’Shea’s, where I had a drink or two, I started chatting to this guy who was sat next to me, just generally chatting and he tells me he drives freight trains in the U.S, which is a bit spooky as I also work on trains in the U.K ( Not as a driver though), so we spent the rest of our conversation talking about the railway.

I head back to TI and hit the casino bar for some VP and a drink and also some hooker spotting.

I was awake and up by about 11am and made my way down into the casino and didn’t feel that hungry so hit the bar and the VP for a while. After about an hour or so I went out for a wander around and a casual walk down the Strip which eventually got me down to the MGM.
I make my way round to the food court and decide on a Macdonalds for something to eat, after downing that I head over to the Sports Bar that is where the lion’s enclosure used to be, very nice inside with plenty of memorabilia over the walls and plenty of large screens full of sport.
After a couple of beers in there I go across to NYNY for a wander and then make my back up that side of the Strip, I have a walk through Caesars and then into Mirage for a beer or two before getting the tram back to TI .Then it’s time for a beer and some VP before going to get some to eat then it’s a trip back to the room for a shower and a chill.

Time for the evening session and it starts at the casino bar with VP for about an hour before heading off out, my first call is Harrah’s and I get a drink in the piano bar before moving onto O’Shea’s for a couple before heading off to Paris, it is quite busy at the bar and after a while I have to make for a guy who wants to play as I’m not playing at the bar. As he plays blackjack I’m stood next to him chatting and he’s not doing to well and is convinced the machine is rigged and decides to head to the tables to play instead, after another beer I decide to take a walk and end up in Twin Peaks bar where it seems to be bikini day for the staff (well the females anyway), I stay for a couple of beers while watching the big……………….. tv screens .:wink2:

I make my way back and call in the Rock Bar at PH and ended up talking to a couple of German guys who had clearly had a few drinks, then it was off to Paris again for a drink and where I get asked if I want to party and decline her offer but she tries with the but this is Vegas line, I decline again and tell her I have been there and done it (I haven’t by the way). She gets the message and moves on, and so do I after my beer and call back at O’ Shea’s for a while before I head back to TI.
When I get back I have some time for another beer and some VP before going off to bed.

    Friday 30th May

These later nights mean later times waking up, I’m awake about 11.30, I was hoping to wake up a bit earlier as I planned to watch the England Vs Peru game which was kicking off 12.00 Vegas time. I make my way down to the casino and they have the game on one of the screens in the bar area, I get a drink and sit down to watch the first half. At half time I go to the bar and hit the VP and get a drink, by the time I’m ready to watch the second half of the game I’m $80 up, I leave the bar and go sit down to watch the rest of the game.
After the game finishes I head out onto the Strip and have a walk down towards Caesars, I have a check at the box office about Matt Goss tickets as I’m interested in going to see his show, they tell me they have $60 tickets left for that night’s show, I decide to get a ticket and then I head off across the strip and I go over to the Cromwell for a couple of drinks, I then have a walk to O’ Shea’s and a drink in there before heading back to TI for a drink before having something to eat.

After a shower change and rest I head out in the evening, first off it’s a couple of drinks and some VP in the casino bar before heading over to Caesars. I get there about 30 minutes before they start letting people in, I have a couple of drinks in Gossy’s bar and then get in the queue which is fairly short, when I get to the front my ticket is checked by a guy who can only describe as a cross between Fat Tony and an extra out of the Soprano’s , who hands me over to another guy who finds me a seat, I’m in the cheap seats I think but I have a good view of the stage as I’m sat on a high rise seat at a table at the side of the room.

He is about 15 minutes late starting but gives out a great show including a alternative versions of a couple of Bros songs, he’s on stage about an hour and three quarters and it was well worth the money for the ticket.
After the show I head out and over the bridge and I have a drink in Flamingo then make my way up to Twin Peaks bar for a beer, I get chatting to an American guy who has a Liverpool football shirt on as we talk I find out that he used to live in the UK for a while and lived not far from where I’m originally from in the north west of England, I make my way to Paris for a couple of beers, this is going to be my last night on the strip as my very last night on Saturday will be spent Downtown.

Next stop is O’ Shea’s and I have a beer or three in there before heading off to TI for a final drink in the casino bar and play some VP, as I’m sat there a woman sits next to me and plonks her large handbag on the bar, I just carry on playing and await the do you want to party question, but no she goes for a bit of a different approach and says to me.
“A gentleman should buy a lady a drink”
It throw’s me a little and I turn and look at her and just say well I don’t, there were better answers I know but it did the trick and she got up and left, I carried on playing for a bit longer before heading off to bed.

    Saturday 31st May

My last day in Vegas and it started about 12pm when I got up, I went down to the bar and started on the VP along with a drink, after about an hour I decided to get some fresh air. I made my away across the road and had a final wander around starting in Harrahs and making my way down that side of the strip until eventually crossing over and ending up in NYNY, I decide it’s time for something to eat and go into Nine Fine Irishman and have the chicken pot pie which is very filling.

After filling up I go to one of the gift stores for a present for my daughter then make my way back onto the strip and cross over and start to make my way back, as I pass the bus stop the deuce pulls in so I decide to get that back up to TI. Once back it’s dump my stuff and have a shower and change and down to the casino for some VP and a drink before heading out to get the bus Downtown.
I just miss the deuce but the SDX is close behind and I jump on that to Downtown, I have a wander round before going to the Golden Gate and having a few beers in there before it’s time to catch the bus back, the bus is busy and I notice even Elvis is riding the bus.
I get back to TI and have a last couple of drinks and some final VP before heading to bed.

    Sunday 1st June

Time to get up and I do about 8.30, I’m already packed and just a final few things to put in before I depart, check out is fairly quick and I get a cab to the airport, I check in and the flight is on time, my change over in Atlanta is quick though and only 45 minutes to get between flights. My flight to Manchester is on time arriving back home and it’s time to wonder when I can get back, in fact I have already being looking at flights.

We haven't seen Matt Goss yet because the SO thinks it would be all his girl fans. I'll show him your report, and hopefully we can go next trip. Thanks very much for posting your report. You do a lot of things we do too, so the things we haven't done may well be right up our street.
Our next trip is Sep 23 to Nov 12. Going with USAirways this time because Virgin/Delta don't do direct after mid Oct and they were way cheaper. One day we may actually be in Vegas at the same time, or even on the same flight.

    Thanks again.

Great TR, you really cover some ground!

A bar I frequent seems to always have cracked glasses, I drink 3/4 of it, let the bartender know, and always get a free one.

Matt Goss was very good and it is a mixed audience, a lot of Brits in there that night, I've flown with US Airways a couple of times and they are good, I may be back there last week of October but not sure yet, I just love the madness of Halloween on Fremont St
