    Trips to Las Vegas:

We're taking our daughter on a surprise trip to Vegas end of July to celebrate her 21st birthday. It will be just the 3 of us. I've booked rooms in Caesars (Augustus Tower) but wondering if I've made the right choice. Worried that perhaps she would prefer a more "fun type" atmosphere. Reason for choosing Caesars was solely based on appointments made for Qua Spa and Color Salon and feeling it was easier if we just stayed there, plus the beautiful pools. Now I'm wondering if she'd maybe enjoy something like the Flamingo better and we can just walk/cab over to Caesars for appointments.

Although we have comps on several MGM properties, this will be a "very low" playing trip compared to our usual play, and we don't want to destroy our rating with MGM. Caesars on the other hand, gets tons of "local" play from us, and is aware this trip will not include as much gambling. Between the 2 of us, we have almost $4k in express comps so not looking for any recommendations beyond the CET family.

    Any suggestions?

Planet Hollywood? Staying there for the first time this July, from what I've heard, it has the "fun type" atmosphere you are looking for. Plus its an upgrade over the Flamingo, and within walking distance of CP.

Yeah, we thought of Planet Hollywood but wanting to spend mornings at the pool. We stayed there once but not during pool season. I was under the impression their pool isn't very good?

    Just a couple questions...
Has she ever been to Vegas before?
What else are you planning on doing aside from the spa and pool time?

I would say you made the right choice with Caesars. She will probably enjoy the nicer rooms and higher tier property with the better pools (in the CET family). She will have plenty of chances in the future to go to other properties with friends that are more of a party atmosphere.
I'm sure she will have as much fun going to PH or Cosmo for the night then going back to your home base. You don't necessarily need to stay at the property.

It's her first trip to Vegas so I expect some of our time will be taken up by just doing the strip wandering. I'm having to read over the "first timers" threads just so I don't miss anything that is a "must do" for a first visit. Last year we went 6 times to Vegas and have 4 on the calendar this year.....so it's tough to remember that first time WOW factor.....probably why I'm stressing over this trip!

We arrive on a Tuesday and depart on a Saturday (so 4 nights total). I'm thinking Qua on Wednesday and Color Salon on Thursday. Maybe breakfast at the pool, lounge at pool for a couple of hours then book appointment for early afternoon to avoid outside heat.

Thinking of shows for Wednesday and Thursday night and heading to Fremont Street for Friday evening. She's kinda a "foodie" but is vegetarian so it makes it a bit more challenging when choosing restaurants.

Have no idea which shows we'll book....maybe a comedian for one night (Vinnie?) and perhaps a Cirque show or Absinthe for the other show? Any younger than me people wanna share what you like?

    All feedback is greatly appreciated!

A bit confused here. You have $4k in Express Comps or RC's from CET? I assume you will pay for Spa with RC or EC.

As to CET being aware this trip will not include much gambling - maybe the host knows this - but the almighty ADT computer has no concern or personal care. It just calculates.

As to getting back and forth to Flamingo - it is almost across the street from Caesars, so no cab needed. Either place would be fun, and you near so many other casinos.

The $4k is in Reward Comps with Caesars (sorry for the confusion). Yeah, I know my ADT will be killed but I don't really care. We play weekly at our local casino and they know my usual level of play so I'm not worried about future offers.

The last 2 visits to Vegas, all of our room charges (including $500 at Qua) were removed at checkout.....I don't know why but on both trips they didn't touch our RC. I didn't question it.

I personally prefer Caesars over Flamingo, but I'm trying to see it thru the eyes of a 21 year old girl. I originally thought Caesars would be best so that we're at the same hotel following spa and hair appointments.....but now I'm second guessing if she'd prefer the pool and atmosphere at Flamingo.

Stay at caesars. Their pool is nice as well. The property is more upscale than Flamingo.

You are thinking too much about your decision. It is often said that your first instinct is usually right. Stick with it.

I would stick with Caesars. Lots to do there. Tons of food options, even a decent food court. All food within Caesars can be paid with points. Plus the mall for shopping, walking around.

Stay with Caesars. Flamingo would be a good one to go to with her friends, but for a first trip with parents? Caesars! It's her birthday, treat her to the nicest CET property.

Plus all her friends will know about CP (because of the Hangover moves) when she tells them how her awesome her parents are!

Thinking about other things besides just the hotel, I would have her invite a friend. while I'm sure you are great company, if it is her 21st birthday she would probably enjoy having someone besides her parents to run amuck in Vegas with at some point. we all enjoy our time out there of partying.

As a youngster who had his 21st birthday trip back in 2010, my parents and I stayed at Flamingo and it was just as memorable as it would have been anywhere else. That 1st Vegas trip is special that it almost doesn't matter where you stay, so go with the hotel you feel more comfortable with.

You are in the perfect spot! Don't change. CP does appeal a little more to an older customer but between the pools and the clubs, it's still youthful and fun. Since it's a special occasion birthday, you should also take the more special room and you would need to upgrade big time at Flamingo to get close to what an Augustus room has to offer. The other thing is after a spa treatment, I just want to go back to my room and continue to relax. I wouldn't want to walk in the July heat back to my hotel. And although PH is youthful and fun, you are losing a lot in the pool department so I would pass on that.

Caesar's Augustus tower is great. The newer rooms in Flamingo are ok too.

Caesar's pool is way nicer than in Flamingo but the Flamingo pool has a better party type atmosphere.

Caesar's crowd "generally" isn't the same as the Flamingo crowd.

As a first timer, I would suggest Caesar's. Since it has more to offer than Flamingo and perhaps a better "wow" factor. If she were to go with friends to party it up then Flamingo would be ok.

Hail Caesar.........don't change, stay at Augustus Tower with a Bellagio Fountain and Eiffel Tower view. Caesars has all the amenities for the 3 of you. Also, Flamingo, Paris, and Planet Hollywood are right across the street to enjoy the properties. Flamingo pool has a great young vibe...........but not for a 21 year old female being accompanied by her parents. Also keep in mind that Flamingo is in the middle of two properties undergoing major construction, Linq and Ganesvoort (IP/Bills).

Based on your post, I would also suggest Caesars as well since the pool is a priority and gambling is not as well as your appointments are at Caesars.

If the priority changes to low gambling instead of pool then go with Flamingo.

We took our daughter and her fiancee for her 21st during Memorial week. We stayed at Mirage, they showed up a couple days later, we set them up at Harrah's. They didn't care that they were in a lower tiered hotel, they were just happy to be in Vegas. We spent time at the Mirage pool during the day and walked the Strip at night. They loved it. Staying at Caesars will set a high standard for her future stays in Vegas and she might feel like she's slumming it when she does stay at hotels in her 20something price range. (Of course, she might not.)

I agree that letting her bring a friend would be fun for her. If it's allowed, put them up at Flamingo and you stay at Caesars. It would let the kids have kid time. And you could all do a day at a Flamingo cabana and a day at the Caesars pool.

And remember, the patio at Mon Ami Gabi is a great spot for the Big Dinner for first timers. Just allow an hour to get seated. It will be a great memory for her. Your kid won't care about the difference of the food between it and the very high-end restaurants but they will always remember the setting.

Our kids have been hearing about our Vegas trips for twelve years and it was SO much fun to share it with her. We're really excited to take the boys in a few more years too. If you have half the fun we did I know you'll have a blast. Congratulations.

I echo the "stay at Caesar's" vote. She or her friends may not be able to afford Caesar's when she returns with just them, so why not give her the higher end experience this time? Have a wonderful trip!

Ok, thank you all for your feedback....I guess I knew Caesars made more sense but I started the old second guessing game.

And for those that suggest bringing a friend, we've done that several times but this time I want her for ourselves (in fact I can't think of any trips since she was 15 where we haven't taken a friend). She's been in Australia for the past 6 months (she's still there now) and doesn't fly home til mid July. She's been doing the second half of her 3rd year in university there, so we haven't seen her since January. Her actual birthday was a couple of weeks ago, so this trip is slightly belated.

When she returns, she has an exam in Toronto 2 days before this trip, then 2 weeks later she moves into her first real apartment. We don't live in Toronto so we don't see her as often as we'd like.....thus, the reason I don't want to take a friend this time. I feel this will be our last "family" trip for several years as she'll no doubt want to travel with friends from this point on.

Thanks again for your suggestions. Gonna keep the rooms at Caesars!
