    The way I see it, Brazil is either to just destroy everybody or have a huge choke and all their players will be hung by the hysterical fans.

    Group A favorite Brazil should breeze through this group. The only thing is, if Brazil has any problems the crowd will get so emotional something really weird could knock brazil into a funk.
    Palms = Brazil = 2/9, bet 9 bucks to win 2 bucks
    Gold Coast = Brazil = -575, bet 575 to win 100
    Caesars/Rio = Brazil = -400

    Group B favorite tough group with Spain, Netherlands and Chile
    Palms = Spain = 5/7
    Gold Coast = Spain = -150
    Caesars/Rio = Spain = 2/7

    Group C favorite easy group, could be the smartest bet to make, if you are just going to bet which team will win their group.
    Palms = Colombia = 4/5
    Gold Coast = Colombia = -175
    Caesars/Rio = Colombia = 2/3

    Group D favorite (tough group with Italy, Uruguay, and England)
    Palms = Uruguay = 3/2
    Gold Coast = Uruguay = +140, bet 100 to win 140
    Caesars/Rio = Italy = 3/2

    Group E favorite
    Palms = Switzerland = 5/2
    Gold Coast = France = -175
    Caesars/Rio = France = 2/3

    Group F favorite no one should even challenge Argentina in this group. Argentina could possibly just play the bench and win this group
    Palms = Argentina = 1/5
    Gold Coast = Argentina = -600, bet 600 bucks to win 100 bucks.
    Caesars/Rio = Argentina = 2/9

    Group G favorite everyone likes Germany, but Brazil is Portugese, maybe Portugal gets some sort of vibe from that.
    Palms = Germany = 5/9
    Gold Coast = Germany = -220
    Caesars/Rio = Germany = 5/9

    Group H favorite
    Palms = Belgium = 5/9
    Gold Coast = Belgium = -175
    Caesars/Rio = Belgium = 1/2

    I am far from a soccer expert, but I really like Spain at 6 and a half to 1. I must put a little on it when I am next out there just to have a rooting interest when the WC starts

    How recent are these lines? Do you know if the Uruguay lines are before or after the Suarez injury?

    I grabbed these sheets on Monday, May 26, Memorial Day Weekend 2014. As far as I know the lines are about as close as I could get them.

    I have no idea who or what a Suarez is.

    That Colombia at 30/1 at the Palms would be my bet, if I was looking for a "darkhorse" with some pretty long odds to drop a few bucks on just for fun. Colombia should have no problem winning its group (Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan). The big thing against Colombia would be a likely quarterfinal matchup with Brazil.

    Also, I'll be out there for the first three days of the World Cup. Anyone know what the sports books are like for the games? Large crowds?

    Colombia is not what you call a WC expert team, like Spain, Germany, England, Italy, Argentina.
    Doesnt matter if Colombia finished 1st or 2nd..., because when everything went smoothly for Spain and Brazil, they are waiting in the semifinal. And i only give Germany, England, Argentina and Italy a shot to beat them.
    At the moment i have a hard time not to pick Brazil.
    But lets have a look at the south and middle american hosts and the champions.
    Year-Host-Champion
    1930 Uruguay - Uruguay
    1950 Brazil - Uruguay
    1962 Chile - Brazil
    1970 Mexico - Brazil
    1978 Argentina - Argentina
    1986 Mexico - Argentina
    SEE THE PATTERN HERE?
    it's hard to not pick Brazil
    btw, looks like Suarez will play at the WC.
    dont judge germany after the first game, it's a given that they are getting better and better which each game.
    look out for reuss (#21) having a very good WC. germany has a striker problem (look who is playing for dortmund and bayern).
    italy's system is boring but successful after the group stage.
    spain's players are proven winners in every competition (league, champions league, EC and WC).
    portugal's golden generation is DONE! they may get lucky and win the group over germany, but the 1/4 will be too much.
    personally, i hope that the diva's ronaldo and messi will be out of the tournament as soon as possible.
    the history of the world cup is about teamplay and not about diva's.
    the bounce back from france will be interesting to watch.
    WC will be fun!!! cant wait!

    Costa Rica's Alvaro Sabario is out with a broken foot.

    Netherlands Rafael van der Vaart out.

    South Korea Hong Jeong-ho hurt but will play.

    Uruguay Luis Suarez injured.

    Spain Diego Costa hurt and could miss the World Cup.

    Columbia Radamel Falcao could be out. He has been out since January.

    Hosts have won over 30% of the World Cups.

    I don't see any of the European sides being strong enough. maybe belguim may have a good run but its tough for them to do well in South America. Germany always have a decent run - they'll go close. spain will falter this time - the defence isn't as strong as it could be- same for Holland - the midfield and strikers pick themselves but beyond 6 or 7 players the reast of the team isn't the best. England have some good players but a garbage manager. If the players ignore him they'll be fine but expect some strange decisions and lots of defending - with a good attack!!
    Columbia will be goof but not finalist material without Falcao. I think Brazil will be under way too much pressure and expectation. my top three have to be uruguay (suarez will play), Argentina and Brazil with a European team to make up the last 4. Argies to win it.

    Just saw that today. So scratch my idea of Colombia being any sort of "darkhorse".

    you just have to read the 2nd post in this thread from BackInVegas
    Group C favorite easy group, could be the smartest bet to make, if you are just going to bet which team will win their group.
    Palms = Colombia = 4/5
    Gold Coast = Colombia = -175
    Caesars/Rio = Colombia = 2/3
    ---
    however, i think ivory coast is a good bet at +300 in this group. i dont bet colombia when columbia is at -175. columbia would face england/italy/uruguay in the next round...good luck with that.
    ---
    safest bet of the world cup....maybe costa rica to not qualify for the next round -2500.
    ---
    crazy odds? the odds that germany wins the WC are lower then the odds that germany finishes as runner up.
    ---
    the team that could surprise me the most? USA, because i think klinsmann is not a good coach. he had so much quality with bayern and germany and couldnt win anything.
    ---
    the team that could disappoint me the most? Brazil. If they not win the WC they would disappoint me.
    ---
    i expect the european teams to do better then at the last world cups in south america. the world is getting smaller and smaller. it's not a big deal anymore to travel from europe to south america. the team management of most european teams is far better then from teams like uruguay and columbia.

    I believe there never was a european winner when the WC was played in South America, and I don't think there will be this time.
    I really like Argentina, their weak point was their defense but with ,Hugo Campagnaro (Internazionale, Federico Fernandez (Napoli),Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City),Ezequiel Garay (Benfica),Marcos Rojo (Sporting),José Basanta (Monterrey),Martin Demichelis (Manchester City) and Mascherano also able to play there, they have a really good chance.

    I'm going with a Brazil-Argentina final.

    Last year Brazil was under a lot of pressure as well, when they hosted the confederations cup and they ended up beating Spain 4-0 in the Final, so I don't think they will choke.

    Surprise team of the tournament: Bosnia-Herzegovina, they really have a good team,saw them play Ivory Coast last week and dominating.
    Disappointing teams, unfortunately I think it will be Holland, I don't think they will go through, as they have a very weak defense, and they will be playing in a 5-3-2 against Spain and Chili which will cause problems for them when they want to attack.
    Also England will be disappointing I think, don't think they will survive the group stages..

    you are right, but...
    when was the last time we had a WC in south america?
    how small was the world back then?
    how far back was training?
    how far back was sports medicine?
    how far back were tactics?
    look at the last world cup (southern hemisphere, right?) - all 3 top teams from europe.
    netherlands playing 5-3-2 vs spain? uh
    van gaal must be delusional if he thinks "koeman's 5-3-2" works vs spain. but hey, somebody liked him in manchester, after he failed in bayern.
    i hope that italy or england kick out brazil in the 1/4.
    the tournament organization already failed. giving tickets away for free (not to sponsors; to the public!!!)...selling tickets for $20. wow...
    :wink2: qatar would be by far the better host. :wink2:

    I agree with you..partially :evillaugh

    I do think you have to take the climate into consideration as well, I think some countries will have difficulties with that, or underestimate it..
    Well I'm a big Liverpool fc fan so I can't wait for van Gaal to fail at Utd :evillaugh

    I don't believe that England will go through from their group, it's just in Englands nature not to perform up to par at the WC
    Well with the organization, it's just total shambles, I mean I can't and won't believe that the WC now, in Russia and in Qatar were chosen without corruption

    I have huge World Cup Fever, I cant really jump in with many odds, but I do a lot of "soccer" betting here in the UK.

    For me, the sensible money is on Brazil, the value isn't really there with them, but you can't disregard them as a favorite. However, I think if you're looking for a good shot at a winning ticket, but still some value in your betting, Spain might be worth a look. Spain are the current world champions, current European champions and boast one of the best midfield partnerships in Alonso and Iniesta in the game still today. I'd be surprised if Spain don't get to at least the semi finals personally, and feel that a lot of sportsbooks have under rated them, given Spain's dominance over the last 6 years in world football.

    I think if you are looking for a real dark horse, I feel that Switzerland could be worth a look, as could Chile. Both of them have the potential to top their group, and if they do pave their draw open for a nice progress later in the tournament. Both should qualify from their groups (Sorry Kevstf, but here in England, Chile are actually expected to knock Holland out), and if they can top their groups, they have a good shout at going deep into the tournament at long odds.

    I disagree that group C is the easiest group to call, and in fact, I'd say it's one of the toughest ones of the whole tournament. I do think Colombia can win the group, don't get em wrong, but I feel people are underestimating the Japanese and the Greeks a lot in this group. Greece play very hard, defensive football, and whilst the climate will mean chasing the ball will be tough, they do know how to play that type of football well, demonstrated by them not conceding many during the qualifying phase. Japan play very attractive football, and I think could definitely have the nous to beat off either Ivory Coast or Colombia to a qualifying spot.

    TL;DR - Colombia have been over rated given their tournament experiences in the past and probably aren't value. Spain are good value at current prices. Potential darkhorses are the Swiss and Chile.

    I think this is wrong, England have qualified from their group at every tournament they've played since 1982 in the World Cup. Whilst it would be very tough to say they should be winning it, England consistently do get to the last 16/quarter finals.Many people in England don't rate our chances this time, however I think we may still make it to the quarter finals, if we can put in a good performance against Uruguay in our second game.

    I agree with you that England have qualified for the 2nd round since '82, however they usually perform poor ,add to that the tough group they are in this WC,and I just believe they will be knocked out.

    I agree with you, I also believe Chile will knock Holland out of the WC, in every pool I play I have Spain and Chile progress.
    I think the 4 semi finalists will be Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain..

    Maybe the reason for underrating the Spanish is also due to the fact that they got an assrape from brazil last year at the confederations cup.

    In my pool I have Colombia and Ivory Coast progressing,but I'm still pondering whether to let Japan go through instead of Ivory Coast.. The problem I think is that Japan are physically not strong, and do they have the playing strength (like Spain with Mata,Cazorla,David Silva,Pedro and so on) to compensate..
