<p>Several Las Vegas hotels have begun to charge a nightly resort fee on top of the advertised room rates. These fees apply on top of rooms booked directly with the hotel, as well as those booked through a broker or outside web site. They also often apply to rooms that are comped or free with a club card offer.

In an effort to help people better make decisions when choosing a hotel, we've compiled this list. Please be aware that these fees change without notice. If you find something in this post that is not current, please send a PM to Sonya or post in this thread and one of us will edit the original post ASAP. Thanks for your help keeping this list current.

Hey, I just made a bunch of updates to the first post here and since that last thread was so long, I started a new one off fresh.

Please look over this chart and make sure I didn't miss an update somewhere. I think I got it all, but I'm sure you'll find something. ;)

    Las Vegas Club

The Las Vegas Club closed its hotel (its casino still remains open) close to a year ago. You may wish to consider removing it.

Gold Spike could probably be removed since it's not a casino & hotel anymore.

    CET resort fee

Note that the resort fee on all CET casino hotels is waived if you have achieved a Platinum or above status. Normally, this is achieved by a substantial amount of play. However, this free credit card in the link below will give you Platinum status for a year and a free buffet of buffets for two people.
The buffet of buffets passes are worth $100 total, $50 each.
It takes about 60 days to get the paperwork set so your card reaches Platinum, so it is not something you can do on a last minute booking. Plan ahead.
Since by using the card you earn a reward credit for every dollar spent, you can also keep all your Reward Credits from expiring even if you don't get to a casino every six months just by making a charge on the card every six months. You keep that benefit even after the free Platinum status goes away and the buffet of buffets is eaten.
To get rid of resort fees, it is a great tool and that can mean a great savings. On a 5 day booking you might save as much as $140 just for holding this card and not paying a $28 a night resort fee.

    Stratosphere

The Stratosphere no longer caps the resort fee after 5 days. Now any capping is based on play. Too bad for those who stay there a few weeks at a time as that precious capping brought the resort fee down to the lowest in Vegas.

    Super 8 at Koval

Almost connected to the Ellis Island casino on Koval just behind Bally's is a place to sleep that offers the most amenities and charges no resort fee.

    Amenities include:

Free shuttle between the airport and hotel (small tip expected)
    Free wifi in the room
Free and even fancy coffee in the lobby as well as coffee in the room
Heated 24/7 swimming pool (rare in those cold months)
    Free parking
Great television including Turner Classic Movies
    ***************************************************

There is also an Option to keep pets (for a fee)

Ellis Island is right next door and is the best frugal value for food anywhere near the strip.
Also, while the casino is not directly affiliated, Ellis Island might comp a room at Super 8 for players or offer a discount based on play.

Right now the Boyd Casino free shuttle drops at the rear of Bally's so it is a very short walk from the Super 8 and will get you to the Gold Coast or the Orleans.
The 202 Flamingo bus is residential, so a one way fare is just $2 and that will get you all along Flamingo and all the way out to Sam's Town and Eastside Cannery if you like. $5 gives you a 24 hour pass for Residential buses only but might be a good deal if you wanted to ride 3 times on Flamingo in 24 hours or ride from the Orleans along Tropicana to the strip there on the 201.

The Seven Eleven right on the corner of Koval and Flamingo is reported to carry the 15 day all access bus pass. This is $34 and sure beats the prices on strip buses if paid on the strip. However, they do not offer an reduced fare prices, so seniors who want the half price of $17 will have to go to other places. Also, they run out so call ahead and see
7 Eleven - KOVAL NR FLAMINGO
    4158 Koval Lane(702) 734-8604.
So the Super 8 may be a bit off the strip, but it is still located in a very good location, especially for bus riders.

Note also that as part of the Wyndom Rewards you get points for each night booked. In addition booking more nights usually drops the nightly charge and booking an entire week might get you a free night. Do be careful about the cheapest booking options because they do not allow cancelation. I'd stay away from them. Call and ask for AAA rate or AARP rate. Generally it is only a few dollars more. Booking directly is always a better deal, especially in flexibility.

I talked to a clerk tonight and he said that only those who book using what he called a "TV Ad" could have the resort fee waived. The rest of us would have to pay it.

The casinos always tell us that the resort fee was created because of popular demand, but these pull backs on an option to waive the fees at TI, Venetian, and Palazzo clearly indicate that so many guests refuse the fee (if allowed) that it costs them money to offer an easy option to waive the fee.
    Sad.

    Eastside Cannery

Shame on me for making yet another mistake this week. There is no energy surcharge and I can't locate the place that quoted it to me. When I do, I'll let you know.
    Sorry.
Here is the nice note I got from Eastside Cannery when I wrote my letter of protest.
We have received your email and wanted you to know we do not have a $3.00 energy charge. Our rooms rates are only Room and tax per night. We also offer 2 free coffees, 2 free danishes, a newpaper and 2 free drinks coupons at checkin. If possible can you advise me where you received this information regarding a $3.00 energy charge?

If you would like you can contact me direct 702-856-5465 or email me.

I apologize for any confusion and would be more than glad to explain over the phone if needed

    Have a great day

Can someone confirm that the Wynncore fee really includes wireless internet? Reading old threads I only see mention of in-room internet where people connect their laptop to ethernet outlets.

The biggest problem with the list is that it doesn't distinguish between wired and wireless internet. It just says wireless for everyone.

A lot of the CET properties only have wired internet, not wireless.

There's a big difference for people who bring iPads and tablets and things that don't have an ethernet port.

I have tried to change the ones I know that are wired only to day "Wired Internet" instead of Wireless. If I'm missing some, please let me know.

Hey, Dewey, should I add the Super 8 under Super8 or under Ellis Island?

It is not officially connected to Ellis Island, so technically it is Super 8. However, there is that other Super 8 in Vegas that comes up all the time in searches. It is annoying when planning bookings. Can you call it Super 8 near Ellis Island? Or Super 8 on Koval?

I don't see any mention of Casino Royale... believe it or not, it's my understanding that this is *THE* last property on The Strip that has no resort fee.

Casino Royale has free Wi-Fi and no resort fees and the property has had a makeover. However, because of this, they had to charge more for rooms. I'm showing $90 + per night as the cheapest.
    So keep that in mind.

Isn't Casino Royale now a Best Western Plus? I'll add it to the list too.

Update for Luxor: No more 2 free drinks per stay, but, inside the coupon book is a Food & Beverage coupon for $20 worth of F&B at certain bars/ restaurants. I used mine of course, so I don't have the list of places the coupon is valid only at. There were like 5 places in Luxor and 3 in Excalibur that the coupon could be used at. I do remember 3 places at Luxor it could be used: Flight, Playbar, and Tender.

The $20 value will get you 2 free well drinks for sure.
