    My Trip Report

    A little background information
My wife’s mother (MIL) is on her first visit to the states and went to Vegas with us for Halloween. Her highlight of Vegas was eating at Lotus of Siam twice. Since then, every restaurant is compared to Lotus of Siam.

Finally after hearing this for a month, I thought why not bring her back before she leaves. Checked flights and was able to get flights for $223 which is great for such short notice.

After a few seconds of discussion, she was in and ready to go. So booked the tickets and got a 4 day rental car for $91. Next we called our host and arranged rooms, all on short notice.

    Day 1 - Tuesday
We were up early for a 5:50 AM flight after a very short night. Flights were uneventful and not entirely full. Arrived on time, got the rental car and went to Lotus of Siam just in time for lunch opening. Mee Krob, Larb Gai, garlic pepper chicken and Drunken Sea Bass made for a great lunch.

    http://www.saipinchutima.com

First win of the trip, upgraded to a newly renovated Masquerade Suite decorated like the Samba Suites. View was amazing. I am guessing 1200 to 1500 sq ft and a view of at least 90 to 120 degrees. We were all amazed how nice the room was particularly my MIL who lives in a much smaller place.

After admiring the room and taking many photos, we headed to the Total Rewards desk to check on free show tickets and food credit. We decided on Million Dollar Quartet for all three of us and Dancing Queen for the ladies.

Next we were off to Harrahs and PH to get the tickets. In between, we stopped at Flamingo for a little Hi Flush poker, won a few hundred and enjoyed the game.

Once the tickets were secured, we headed back to Rio for a little play. A little play is accurate as we were very tired from the short night and the ladies were getting up for 8AM spa appointments. We did have enough time to hit a couple quads and play Miss Stud before dinner.

Ok, tried to review post and hit submit instead. Here is the rest of day 1.

We’ve eaten at KJ Chinese twice before and found it good enough. This trip we tried to use the $100 Diamond food credit for dinner and ordered more than we could eat. We were talking about the credit and ordering $100 but I guess the waiter didn’t understand. Anyway, food was average at best and the fish was so bony and over cooked that even my wife and MIL from China would not eat it.

We found out when we tried to pay that they do not take the credit. It would have been nice to hear from the Total Rewards desk or the waiter when we were discussing the credit but instead we ordered more average food than we could eat. Maybe it was in the fine print but we went with what we were told, any restaurant. So $116 plus tip charged to the room. Maybe KJ is ok for a late night after a good bit of drink but I would rather go to the Pho place next time.

    2013 Grand Finale continued

    Day 2a - Wednesday
We got an early start because the ladies had a spa appointment at 8AM and wanted to check out the place beforehand. I checked out the exercise room and was tempted to use it because it is free for diamond players.

Anyway, on the way back to the room to get my stuff, a machine started calling my name, and then another and another. “Why don’t you come play with us? You know your back hurts and exercising would make it worse.” Well at least that was partially true and my logic at the time. Ok, I will sit down for a little while, maybe $300 and then off to get my gear.

Well, how can you argue with the following pictures taken between 7:57AM and 9:54AM? Clearly these machines needed a little company.

You might have noticed the first at 7:57 AM photo was Ultimate Poker quad 3s with a 10 times multiplier. I have tried the game a couple times with no success. In the past, if I got a good multiplier I wouldn’t have a hand to go with it.

Next, I decide to go to the $5 WOF to see if I could get a spin and got two spins. WOF was determined to get the spin money back so eventually I decided to go back to what was working.

    Day 2b - Wednesday

Well the ladies had a great time at the spa. They asked me about my workout so I pulled out the stack of Benjamins and said it was a great work out.

We were ready for Lunch at Carlito's Burritos thanks to this message board. Originally planned for breakfast but the ladies were having fun and worked out after their appointments. 4 spoons rating for Carlito's by the way and the green chili stew is a must next trip.

    http://carlitosburritos.com

Next we drove to Orleans so MIL could see the place and I could donate a few hundred to my two machines at the Alligator bar where I had Royals ($1 & $0.25 each) in the past. It’s become a ritual.

After Orleans, we drove back to the Rio about 1:30 PM. I played $1 ultimate poker and hit a 12 times multiplier for $3000. I continued playing getting a few quads but not feeling it.

So I played Miss Stud and 3 Card for awhile, giving a lot of it back and decided to move on. Although I like both games and continue to chase the elusive 4OAK on Miss Stud I always lose a bunch.

I had passed a machine in the Hi limit area several times thinking I should sit down and try it. Ok I’ll play for $300 then I am moving on. It did not take long to be dealt the following quad. Now if only I can get the kicker???? Yes!!!!

By the way, my wife wanted me to add how nice the slot attendants, security and any staff walking through the Rio Hi Limit area were. Several knew me by name from my first hand pay and said hi from time to time.

Went to Harrahs to see Million Dollar Quarter and to play some Miss Stud afterwards (losing as usual). We really enjoyed MDQ and would see it again. We were seated off to the side with a fair view. Just as the show was starting, we were moved to the front row with a great view probably 6 feet from the piano player.

Afterwards we went back to Rio and dinner at the Pho place. Pho Ga’ was very good but pricey for chicken noodle soup.

I played $1 Ultimate with no success and then worse at Miss Stud. My wife got MIL interested in “Bling Bling” machines as my wife calls them. The fishing game with monitors overhead and Hot Shots were two she liked.

Now she has never gambled at all so when she was breaking even or winning a little at 30 cents a spin, she thought she would do better at max spin. My wife tried to explain how these things work but it took $160 on the job training lesson to really sink in. Not so easy afterall.

    Day 3 - Thursday
Up early to go to the M Resort for SPA (9AM) and free lunch buffet. I played $5 VP at the M Bar and $1 VP at the beer bar. I got enough points for a free buffet for MIL but sure lost a lot. Like the M Resort but we always lose there. We can’t afford to stay in the free rooms because that is too much time on site.

While we were at the M Resort, we decided to have MIL throw dice for the first time ever. She speaks little English so had no idea what was going on other than my wife’s translation. Actually, she did well hitting the end wall, not overshooting and getting quite a few throws in. I could tell she was very excited and enjoyed the experience.

Stopped by Silverton to see the aquarium and watch the Mermaids swim with the fish. Go see it if you get a chance. Ladies really enjoyed while I played a little of this and that but continually losing. Nothing photo worthy here.

    http://www.silvertoncasino.com/las-vegas-mermaids.aspx

Dinner was at Marrakech Moroccan Restaurant (5:30PM). Marrakech is a set menu with 6 courses. The idea is to pick up the food and eat with your hands so they start with pouring rose water for each of us to wash our hands. Actually, they did bring forks for part of the meal, probably because we were so obviously confused.

Overall, the dinner was good but we were full before the main course arrived. Stuffed by the time we left. I am sure we will go back again but try to be very hungry next time.

Marrakech had a belly dancer that came out and entertained us from time to time. She was very good. Each time she would try to get someone from the audience to dance with her. To our surprise, MIL got up, did well and had quite a good time dancing.

I would give the setting, service, belly dancing and food a 4.5 spoon rating, particularly for couples.

    http://www.marrakechvegas.com

We finished eating just in time to get the ladies to PH to see Dancing Queen. Not their favorite show but not bad for free. I played hi flush poker most of the time (+250). Afterwards, we went back to Rio to continue playing but not much luck.

While playing Miss Stud, we had one drink taker with the IPad send us Fiji water. When he came back, we asked about it and he said that he noticed my diamond card and gave us Fiji. For the rest of the trip my wife ordered Fiji from any slot or VP on the floor, just showing her diamond card.

    Day 4 - Friday

Got up around 9AM and played VP at the Masquerade Bar to get some caffeine. Played my favorite machine, my son's royal machine and one the bartender recommended dropping $600. So 3 cups of coffee at $200 a piece, that was some expensive coffee. No wonder so many people are carrying around Starbucks cups.

Then I moved onto the Hi limit area to continue the drain playing $1 VP and $5 WOF. Between the Masquerade Bar and Hi Limit area I was down $1700 and it was only noon. I did get the following spin though.

Sorry last post was not finished. I'll get the hang of this eventually.

    Day 5b - Thursday

We got to Lotus of Siam a little behind schedule as my dear wife went to work out. Decided to take MIL to Top of the World for sunset and dinner at 4:30PM which meant not eating too much at lunch.

We went to Mirage so the ladies could see the dolphins and white tigers. I played wheel poker at Mirage for the first time and enjoyed it. I got the following dealt quad but gave it all back.

    Day 5c - Friday

Top of the World was a great meal and a good time as usual. I ordered the rib eye with a couple sides and my wife ordered the surf and turf for her and her mom to split.

As a side note, I like my steak well done and no pink, usually sending the steak back or giving the undercooked parts to my wife. Often the steak is tough and dry. Our waiter said their medium well also had no pink so I went with it and got a steak that was marvelous, cooked, tender and juicy. My wife’s was equally satisfying.

I would have to give them 5 spoons based on service, food and of course the view.

Top of the world was probably the highlight of MIL’s trip. She finds the lights and decorations on the Strip amazing so seeing the whole area from above was a great experience. We arrived before sunset so she was able to see the sky gradually darken and lights come on. While we were waiting on food they walked around and around taking pictures. We stayed for two revolutions.

    http://www.topoftheworldlv.com

After eating, we went up to the observation area to get an outside view. It was cool but very windy. We were at the bungee jump off point and watched one person go. I recommend going up to the bungee jump point if you haven’t before. Great view and maybe you will see someone dumb enough to leave a perfectly good building.

Probably 7:00 when we got to the Rio. My wife and MIL took leftovers to the room and I went back to $1 Ultimate Poker. I called and ask that she bring me more money, then I called and asked that she bring me cigars.

I wasn't there 5 minutes when I hit quad nines followed two minutes later with a dealt 4 aces and a 12 times multiplier for $9600. It was a great hit but if that 5 had been a kicker, the payout would have been $24,000. That was an expensive card.

So at this point I called back and she says, now what? Don’t bring the money and hurry on down to see something special. The ladies hurried down so they could see it before playing on.

Hit a few other quads and gave a lot back before moving to Miss Stud, Crazy 4 poker, back to Miss Stud and then 3 Card Poker for a total table loss of about $1500. Before bed we decided to try $25 and $100 WOF (-1800) and got no spins at all. We did hit a few more hands before bed time.

    Day 5 - Saturday

We got up late and my wife worked out while I packed. We skipped breakfast, headed to the airport ending a great and final trip for the year.

Guess that is about it for this trip, hope you enjoyed the read. The results were:
    • Airfare $223 each, car $91
    • Rooms free, free play at Rio, and shows free
    • Meals and spa at Caesars properties comped
    • Two great new restaurants
    • A really good time showing MIL around
    • Up over 10k for the trip

Oh never mind, I see which one. Well I don't know about the numbers but two pair paying 2 keeps you in the game a lot longer and I have hit the 4 aces, not in order yet, many many times and a Royal at the Masquerade Bar during our Halloween trip. So I am definitely positive on this game over the last year I've been playing it.

I am already planning my trips for the year. Looks like birthday in Febuary, maybe St Patricks day, Labor day and world cup for round of 16 and Quarter Finals (10 days). Thats just the first half of the year. Halloween was an absolute riot what I can remember of it, hope to do it again. Of course there is always an excuse to go to vegas.

I've has Lotus of Siam on my list the last 3 trips and still haven't made it......will make it a must do next trip! I really enjoyed MDQ as well. Some great hits...love the VP porn! Any photos of the renovated Masquerade Suite; it's been a while since I've stayed at Rio...may put it back on the list.

We really like Lotus of Siam and make it an integral part of every trip. My wife does not like gambling as much as I do so Lotus of Siam and spa visits are what I entice her with. We've had a lot of dishes on the menu and haven't been disappointed.

My wife took a lot of Masquerade Suite photos on her phone. I'll get from her and post a few. The decor is very similar to the Samba Suites room. Of course some of the cabinets and closet area are dated but overall we really liked it. My wife really liked being able to sit in the Jacuzzi tub and look out at the view.
