    Hi Everyone,

Has any one recently tried the 20.00 trick at the Rio and did it work?

Hubby and I have 4 nights reserved (comped) for a Deluxe 2 Queen beds, for Sept. of this year. And I did request the Ipamena tower.

Would the $20 trick possibly get me an upgrade? And I know it may not work everytime.

Also, I have heard some reviews about their air conditioning in the rooms not being very cold, any truth to this, that you may know of?

Thanks in advance for opinions and suggestions.

I recently got upgraded for one night to a Masquarade Suite and I didn't even give $20 I just asked for a room as High up as possible, I've stayed on the third floor before and theirs no view from down their.
The check in clerk says the highest room available was in the Masquarade Tower so i said sure I'll take that. I've stayed in the Ipenema tower and the Masquarde Tower before and personally I like the Masquarade better. I was blown away when i went into the suite it was bigger than my apartment has a living room a dining room and a jacquisi bathtub. This was a Saturday Nite I only paid $127 for a regular room and I'm pretty sure the Masquarade suite was worth at least $500 for a Saturday night.

As for the airconditioning. I've stayed at the Rio at least five times and the airconditioning works fine. I usually set it to 65 and its very comfortable.

It really comes down to how busy they are. if you're pleasant,
be honest and sincere......if they can help, they will.
THEN........after the deal is done, ya got what you requested,
    then I tip.

In general, comp Deluxe rooms in Ipanima Tower come with the
    Mountain view.
The upgrade you would want is to a Premium room (there's really very little difference)
but you want the Pool/Strip view.

Your players level plays a part too...if you're Gold, you don't have much room to deal.
Platinum and up it's a bit easier.

Thanks Gregrio for your input. I am always very pleasant when it comes to asking for upgrades, extra toiletries, etc. and I do believe in tipping. Used to be a waitress.

We are gold level, but I still will see what I can do, as far as an upgrade. Being in sales may help a bit. LOL

Anyway, I appreciate the advice and info and thank you for taking the time to help.

Thanks for the news about the Rio and the air conditioning.

I can only wish we get upgraded to the suite you did. LOL I doubt that will happen but I am going to ask for a high floor, and I will mention a suite, all they can say is no. And maybe the 20.00 will help, if not, then I am out nothing.

    I appreciate your reply.

    Thanks again,

We loved staying at the Rio. Never had a problem with the A/C, but I am sure they would address any issues immediately as the service has always been pretty good. Our first stay at the Rio, we checked in late at night for 5days. They asked if I would like to upgrade to a Masquerade suite for an additional $50/nt. I had seen pictures of this room and thought to myself, "$50/nt is not too bad." The desk attendant said, "No. $50 total for your stay." That was a no-brainer. When I told my wife, she said I shouldn't have done it... until we got to the room. Like Greg said, it all depends on when you get there and who you are dealing with at the desk. The next year, I asked if the suite was available and they said it was only available for my first 3days so no dice. Still got a high room in IP tower with a decent view. Make sure you specify what you want when you check in. IMO, they will try to accommodate any request.
