OK... first, full disclosure - I'm a huge fan of this band, so I'm a bit biased... the performance was good, but short (60 minutes or so)...Toad was "opening" for Smashmouth - a decision I suppose I'm not supposed to understand given my age....but whatever...I returned to gambling as the final notes of 'Walk on the Ocean' were played.

Following advice here on VMB (thanks anyway, Mike!), we went to Golddiggers to secure a patio seat for this show...I was the first one in the place...hostess asks me if I have a reservation. I tell her "No - we only want to sit outside at one of the patio tables."
She tells me "There's a $300 minimum per table".
I say "You're joking, right?". She says, "No sir...$300 minimum". Buy $300 in drinks to sit outdoors in 101 degree heat? I don't think so, Tim.
So, we go back down into the fray.
Fremont is over-jammed with people...I've never experienced it this packed, and I've been coming downtown for 10 years...FSE "Security" is prohibiting people from standing along side of the temporary barriers they put in place to direct foot traffic... within the barriers, there's almost no place to stand... mix in the 101 degree heat with over-crowding of people and you have a very uncomfortable set of circumstances. But we endured & enjoyed most of the show... the acoustics are (obviously) horrendous, but I actually anticipated that, so no big deal... short set list included 4 new songs...and, while I get this - and I happen to be familiar with the "new stuff", I'm guessing that 95% of the people there likely didn't want to hear it... but we did get the most of the hits - "Good Intentions", "Somethings Always Wrong", "Fall Down", "Crazy Life", "Stupid", "Way Away", "Whatever I Fear", "Come Down", "All I Want", "Nightingale Song" & "Walk on the Ocean".

The 4 new songs were: 'New Constellation' (title track new album), 'Bet on You', 'California Wasted' & ‘Architect of the Ruin’.

Anyway - forget going to Gold Diggers for such shows...way too proud of their patio. Binion's 'Whiskey Licker' bar patio was a $25 cover (which I also thought was outrageous)... in retrospect, I should have done that... but live & learn.
It really is a sort-of sham to call these things "sponsored-for-free" by the casinos when they are clearly profiting on the performances.
I'm a good capitalist, so I do not begrudge them this...I only wish they would be upfront & advertise it accurately & truthfully.

Anyway - had a great time on the trip... did well at most of the casinos & most tables... but I had one day 'on-tilt' and lost everything I had won + some...
Had an incredibly fun time at the Golden Gate UTH table on Sunday evening... a fun bunch of players there with me.
Played craps & a LOT of blackjack at El Cortez & Fremont.

    Overall, a fun "extra" trip.

My wife and I attended one such FSE concert out in the fray. It was just too many people packed in. And, it makes it tough to get to drink sources. I'm tall and can see over people, but my wife is petite and cannot. Now, we go for the VIP seats and haven't looked back. You not only get a comfortable seat, it also comes with drinks and snacks. We have a friend on FSE who takes care of the arrangements and we tip her $100 per seat.

Sorry to hear about Gold Diggers Top. They must only do that for the bigger drawing concerts. Hope you had a fun/profitable trip.

Mike...yeah - it was a great idea...I was able to see out to the patio & the 1st Street stage view was perfect! I realize that for some folks, paying $300 for a table warrants a shrug, but I can't do that....and there's no way my brother & I could drink anything close to $300 worth of booze.
REally - the only way to do something like that would be to have like 6 people to a table... $50 each? No problem... I figure that's 5 drinks for a one-hour show + tip. I'm still young enough to be able to do that.
Trip was a lot of fun... but alas...I lost a few hundred...what's distressing about that is that this is TWO losing trips in a row for me....and that hasn't happened to me in many, many years.
I can still say that, out of my last 5 trips, I'm 3-2 & still up on the casinos...

No doubt $300 is steep for FSE Top. I hope they haven't changed their policy for the regular FSE concerts on Thursdays. Anyway Top, thanks for the info and your great downtown BJ conditions thread contribution. Seven days to go and I'll be in the thick of it. Can't wait!!! :peace:
