I'm currently listening to two CD's of
    Country Music Hits from 1950's + 60's.
    .
I remember hearing most of these songs --
    but
what "stood out" to my ears was Conway Twitty.
His voice + delivery on this particular song -
    "It's Only Make Believe"
    sounds like Elvis.
( As a kid I may have even thought it was Elvis singing ? )
    My question........
I know Conway Twitty had hits ---
but was he known as sounding just like Elvis ?....an Elvis "knockoff" ?

I checked with my resident Conway fan to see if I could get you an answer. My wife said to Google Bye Bye Birdie.

Apparently in the late 50s they were big rivals.

She loved Conway! When we were dating oh so many decades ago, she dragged me to one of his concerts. He was pretty good!

Before we stupidly got rid of all our vinyl albums, I think she had everyone he ever made.

I never recall that there were any comparisons to EP. CT was deep country and EP was more of the rocker.....and back then the twain did not meet
