    My Trip Report

15th Trip with some Firsts 11/9-11/15 NYNY, SP

15th Trip with some Firsts 11/9- 11/15 NYNY, SP

Flights- Southwest from BDL (Hartford) change at MDW to LAS
return Southwest LAS change at DEN to BDL....from beginning of Nov till March they stop the nonstop so we had to do the transfer thing. Paid for COS (first time doing that), yes there are larger people who do not. Supposedly I will get credited for the extra seat, we will see. Was worth it for the extra room. Flights on time with 1 humorous flight attendant.

Rental Car – Dollar $173 for the week including all taxes and fees. Booked a compact and instead of the Ford Focus we were expecting, we got a Hyundai Elantra with 40K miles on it. Hubby didn't care for the way it drove on the highway so I think we will go back to a bigger car next time.

Hotels- NYNY first time staying there. Booked a Ziggurat Suite on the mlife site for a discounted price for 4 nights. Got room 1034 which has been recently redone with (according to Vegas Chatter) the furniture from THE Hotel. I like the rearrangement of the furniture compared to pics of the old Zig suites. Sofa, chairs, bed all super comfy. Tried the big tub. Suite is good size. Loved everything except I couldn't get use to the roller coaster. It wasn't the screaming it was the roaring of the coaster itself. Reminded me of a howling wind in a storm. I knew it when I booked but would not book this room again because of it. I also had read too many TA reviews of people claiming someone entered their safe while they were sleeping. It is totally possible. The safe is right next to the door and the bed is far away from the door. The deadbolt is not “marked”...I wouldn't have known it if Mike hadn't told me. You flip the door handle into an up position, no markings on the door or handle to tell you this. First 2 nights I had a hard time falling asleep “remembering” what I had read about the claims of their room being broken into lol.

South Point...same as always a 1 bedroom suite comped for 2 nights facing east (my favorite view) I will never get tired of their suites. Fridge with free soda, water and juices is a nice touch.

Hoover Dam (first)...finally made it out there and we were both glad we did. We considered taking the tour until we saw the line...looked at each other and said ...”nah”. Took our time walking over the damn dam reading all the monuments and taking oodles of pictures. Only took 15 trips to Vegas to make it out there.

High Roller (first), we saw it in April but just didn't feel like riding it that trip. Weather being in the low to mid 70s this trip helped. We weren't too hot...which is why the dam and High Roller got done. YES you can pay with TR points...I tried to find out ahead of time but could not find the info anywhere. I asked at the Linq TR desk and they said yes. She even gave me a 2/1 coupon to use. I am Platinum but only due to the Credit Card. We haven't spent more than $40 in a CET slot in 2 years. So total cost for the 2 of us was $26 in TR points...I call that a WIN.

    BTW, we are ---frugal...okay Cheap!

Food – we are NOT diners we are eaters. Note the difference.

Fultons Fish Fry (first) okay but we're from New England, better tasting stuff back home at a roadside stand.

Mandalay Bay Breakfast Buffet (first) – MyVegas- I thought it was okay but Mike thought the eggs weren't “real”. He didn't like it. We both thought the dining room itself was nice and relaxing. Just thought the food was okay. Free for 2 so didn't really care.

Nine Fine Irishmen (first) I have always wanted to eat here and finally got to. I had a great tasting burger with onion rings, Mike had a pulled pork sandwich thing that he enjoyed very much. Used a MyVegas $25 off the bill and billed the rest to the room.

MGM Breakfast Buffet- MyVegas, okay we've been before. Best part for me was hitting the Bread Pudding at the desert counter. Free for 2 so not going to be picky.

Scirrocos (first) pizza in the NYNY Village Eateries. Not bad, both had the $7.77 slice and draft special. I didn't care for the Rolling Rock Beer but Mike went back and bought a second special...so I guess he enjoyed it!

Nathans at the MGM Food Court. Always a winner for us, dog and split the fries.

Burger Brassiere at Paris/Bally's (first) I have been wanting to eat here for years...but years ago when we stayed at CET props Mike didn't want to and the past few years we have been going with MGM props so haven't been in the area. Most expensive burger I've ever ordered but the best tasting I've ever had so that works out just fine. I had the build your own which was angus beef, cheddar cheese, let, tom, mayo, ketchup...Mike had the French Dip and we had a Tower of Onion Rings. Mike had a Guiness and I stuck with a diet soda. Over $60 paid with TR credits. (Thanks to the credit card)

South Point- Silverado Steak House (first)- we have never eaten here but my offer came with dinner for 2 and we weren't passing up free. Tried the Pork Belly App due to JPW's recommendation. It was great and could be an entree by itself! Mike had the shrimp cocktail appy....salad for both of us, 3 different types of rolls to choose from but we knew better and kept room for our entree. I had the small filet and Mike went with the Prime Rib. We both had mashed with it and loved it. We were stuffed and couldn't finish it all. We split 1 desert, raspberry cheesecake...Great meal, nice waiter. The funniest part about this entire meal is that neither Mike nor I are wine drinkers. Meal included a bottle of the house wine of the month. Mike has always said he HATES wine...he wanted it, and enjoyed it. Wine was called Carnivore he got a kick out of that.

Buffet for Breakfast with a 50% off coupon and charged the rest to the room. SP buffet is on the same level as Gold Coast buffet if that gives you an idea to what it is like.

Big Sur Oyster Bar- cups of clam chowdah (only 1 kind in our world and it is NOT red) Fish sliders and a King Crab sandwich...good but too much food. Next time we will have the chowder and split the sliders. Charged to the room.

All the food at SP free. Offer included Silverado Dinner for 2 and $50 in Resort credit which took care of the other 2 meals.

Gambling- We both had redeemed the $50 My Vegas free play for NYNY....I put mine in a $1 Bonus Frenzy 3 coin and hit $300. I took a $100 bill from this and stuck it in a $5 Triple Double Star Machine...first pull $800. I cashed out that ticket immediately without giving it any more play. These 2 hits would be my biggest of the week. We are reel slot players and had some small hits but nothing as large as the 2 mentioned. I like the slots at MGM better than NYNY and Mike liked the slots at Excalibur better. Played slots at Mandalay Bay, Excal, MGM, Trop, NYNY,SLS(first),Cromwell(first), Bally's.

South Point included $50 free play....their slots as usual gave us more play for our money. No big hits there but plenty of $100-$200 tix cashed in and of course played through.

Tidbits.....NYNY great room, noisy coaster, small casino, great food outlets, great location, back end comps seemed less than Monte Carlo and MGM. Checked off our list but won't stay there again.

Weather ....I found it much more comfortable walking the strip this trip. Many of our trips have been in May (although we have been in Vegas during 7 different months)....I think I like Vegas in the mid 70s better than the 80s and up.

Mike has a “bad” habit of looking for new gadgets while in Vegas. My fault, years ago I hit $1300 at Slots a Fun and we drove out to Walmart to get him his first itouch. So Frys has been on the list almost every trip since. This year he wanted a watch, Samsung ifit...Fry's had none to show and he wanted to see one before he bought one. We found our way from South Point to the Best Buy off Rainbow where he saw one and bought one.

We had tickets for Friday night at the Orleans to see Steven Wright, Mike's favorite comedian. It was our last night in town and we just didn't feel like driving up there...so blew it off. Wasted $100 but we've wasted much more while in Vegas.

It was fun to find some new things to do instead of the same old things we normally do. As usual we did Vegas our way, drink service was hit or miss. Boy does Excalibur have the oldest CW's! We are in our upper 50s and I think some of them were close to our age. I got a call from JPW when we were at SLS but we were unable to meet up. By the time we got back to the south end of the strip we were unable to walk another step.

Wore my VMB bracelet but didn't see any others.

Another trip in the books....looking at Easter week next year. I will attempt to insert some pics in here, if I can figure out how to do it.

Oh well pics are coming out turned and upside down.....here is a video of the redone Ziggurat Suite at NYNY.

Thanks for your "firsts" report! The YouTube video didn't work, but it said to try again. I plan on doing so.

Nice, report, sorry we missed meeting you! I'm glad you enjoyed the pork belly, that's another reason to go to the SP if you ask me.

Nice hit on the $5 machine too!

I was wondering about the suite at NYNY as we've never stayed there. Looking forward to checking out the video.

Is this your first trip without "the elderlies" Tammy? NYNY is one of the few places where I haven't stayed. I got the try later message when opening the video so I will do that; curious to see the suite. I always enjoy Burger Brasserie; occasionally there are Groupons that make it a gteat deal. Too bad you missed Steven Wright but plans do tend to change in Vegas. Great to have some "firsts"!

Link is working for me...not sure what I messed up lol. Thank you VERY MUCH Breanna for remembering the elderlies. 7 deaths in 6 months made us decide we needed to get away again this year just to put the year behind us. It was strange not having Irene and Doris along with us. I messed up the dates in the title but can't figure out how to edit the title. Pics were posting turned and upside down so I gave up on that. We had a good time....6 nights is just not enough for us. I really thought the suite was better now than in the original pics I saw, they changed the table and sofa areas which gives you a much better tv view. I will need to do a groupon next time....I'm too cheap to pay their "regular" prices and that was a great burger. :wink

If you want to try youtube and not the link...my name there is KnKsgram....worked for me here and there and says 73 views.

ok, now that I've watched the video, that tub: WOW. It looks bigger that the ones in the suites in the older tower at South Point. I bet it took a long time to fill. Besides the coaster noise, did you hear hall noise? It looks like it was a real suite with a closing door. We played a little at NYNY during our last trip and liked the vibe that night compared to the 'seeinity" at MGM so we were thinking about checking the hotel out "one of these trips"

I could hear a little hall noise when I was in the living room area watching tv but nothing in the bedroom. Tub did not take long...the first layer is one person long/wide...then it hits the second layer where you could just sit and have your legs in the rest of the tub. I liked it. NYNY is nice due to the live music from 2 different venues. Yes, a door closes to the bedroom and another door closes between the bathroom and front entry. I tend to wake earlier than Mike so that is why we always get 2 room suites now. I can get up at 4 am have a diet pepsi and a cig and watch the sunrise while he snores away in the bedroom. The couch was actually very long and comfy enough that someone could sleep on it. Not a pullout though.

I always enjoyed reading your reports with the "elderlies". I hope fun memories of those trips bring a smile to your hearts on all your Vegas trips. I was able to view the video; very nice suite. Shame they don't relocate the safe to the bedroom closet.

Hi Tammy! I enjoyed your report as always. I'm sorry to hear you have had such a sad and difficult year, but it sounds like this trip was just the right medicine for you both! I love reading your South Point review and keep saying I am going to stay there, but I always end up at the same old places. I also have trouble with deciding how long to stay as 5 days isn't quite enough after the flight from the east coast, but my bankroll struggles when I stay a week or longer :) I hope our paths cross again one day!
