    My Trip Report

Once again, I came back to our beloved Las Vegas… After two solo-trips, my Vegas-buddy, who joined me on my first two trips, came with me for the third time and again, we had a great time…

For those, who don’t know me: In this trip-report, there will be a lot of pictures, a lot of food (burgers, buffets and an awesome dinner), some video-poker and some more pictures!

What you should not expect from this trip report?

There will be no high-roller gambling, no roulette, no black-jack, no clubbing…

    DAY 1: 08/21

The journey begins, so I don’t mind getting up at 4 am… We took the train to Frankfurt at 5:30 and arrived at 08:00. On my last two trips, it wasn’t a problem to get a seat in a “emergency-exit-row” on the plane at this time…

But not today… The check-in-machine didn’t give us a choice where to seat, but gave us seats in row 43 and 44 (note: there are 44 rows in the plane). So we decided to invest some money for an upgrade, and we didn’t regret it…

The chocolate cake was soooooo good, almost as good as the dessert at Wicked Spoon… well, almost… ;-)

The airline renovated its planes and now has in-seat-entertainment with really good movies and TV-series (watched “Amazing Spiderman 2”, “Captain America 2” and a couple of episodes of “House of Cards”). That (and a 5 hour nap) helped a lot to kill the time on the 12 hour flight…

After we arrived at McCarran we had a good run at the immigration and at the baggage claim, but it took some time until we made it through the custom control:

But after that, we left the airport to enjoy the beautiful Las Vegas weather (almost double the temperatures we had in Germany!) and after a cigarette-break, we took a cab to the Mirage. And of course, including the question: “Do you mind if I take the freeway?” Come on, I’ve already told you it is the fifth time I am here…

After we have checked in, we went to Walgreen’s to get some necessary stuff (booze and water) and after that, I had my first “burgasm” on our trip:

After the dinner, we had some drinks in the casino and crashed about 01:00 in our room. An 18-hours journey is hard…

    9 nights left!

I really enjoyed your previous reports as well, so looking forward to the rest of the TR. If you're going to have a long plane ride, those looked like the seats to have!

The burgers at BLT Burger are among my favourites, especially the lamb burger with avocado. Yum.

Liking it so far. Maybe with seats like that, drinks service and built in TVs, maybe I could even fly for 12 hours. Nah, never mind! Silly idea on my part. I can barely handle 4+.

    DAY 2: 08/22

Thanks to some drinks I managed to sleep almost 7 hours. I went down to Starbucks to get a coffee and played a little bit video-poker. At least, the coffee was good…

An hour later, my buddy messaged me, that he was awake and hungry, so we went to the buffet at the Mirage to use our first (6 more to come) myVegas reward, a 2-for-1…

Before this trip, I have always liked Cravings, it had one of the best price-value-ratios on the strip. But now, there are no more servers, any drinks (juice, coffee) you have to get at machines… I am fine with that, but the quality of the breakfast also went down… the eggs tasted like nothing, the waffles were average, and also were the muffins…

Maybe it has only been a bad day at Cravings (which shouldn’t happen anyway at a buffet at a hotel in this price range). We have one more 2-for-1, so let’s wait and see, if it improves again…

Our plan for this day was to have a little shopping-tour, so we left the Mirage to catch the bus. And of course, we had some nice views on the way to the bus:

We hopped on the bus and drove to:

I made my mandatory shopping at Levi’s and CK, my buddy spent some more money at the BOSE-store and bought the awesome headphones I’ve bought one year ago (BOSE QC15).

We drove back to the Mirage, brought our bags to our room and drove back south. We went to the Luxor, to reserve a table at Tender Steakhouse for tomorrow and went further to Mandalay Bay to try a new (at least for me) burger restaurant:

Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay: solid burger and sides, almost the same price range as BLT, I wil definitely come back on may next trip!

After the dinner, we walked all the way from Mandalay Bay back to the Mirage, and I took a couple of pictures from the south strip at night:

We made a quick stop at Bugsy’s Bar at the Flamingo, and exactly the same machine that killed me on my last trip gave some money back…

But still in the red for today…

    8 nights to come!

I am curious to see how Cravings fares on your return trips.

That has been one of my go to places since our very first stay in Vegas and I dislike the fact they have gone serverless for drinks.

I redeemed my only myVegas thing for a buffet there next week

    DAY 3: 08/23

Our motto for this day was „excellent food“, so here we go…

The day started very relaxed at the Mirage pools:

Amazing weather, especially compared to Germany!

After the pool we went to a late breakfast / early lunch. No buffet today, but another restaurant where I haven’t been before.

Carnegie Deli at the Mirage, a good choice for a good eat. Only one little thing I didn’t like: The tables are standing very close to each other, and the whole place was packed, so it was very loud in there. But the omelet was excellent!

In the afternoon we wanted to gamble a little bit, so we took the tram to Treasure Island. After I have lost a quick $100 at the craps-table, I decided to give Ultimate Texas Hold’em a chance. I have never played it in a casino before, only some UTH-trainer online. But it seems to be a fun-game, so why not… Another 100 went down very fast, but after a rebuy I caught a little heater and finished the session with a little profit.

We went back to the Mirage outside on the strip to take some pictures:

Back at the Mirage, it was time to dress up for our dinner. We took the monorail down to MGM (awful long walk through the casino) and crossed the street to Luxor. We had some time to kill, so we checked the VP-machines at the Luxor. And they helped a little bit to pay for the dinner ;-)

After that, we went to the steakhouse to have the best dinner of my life!

    Australian Kobe Style Beef Carpaccio
    Japanese Filet
    Chocolate Cake

This steak was the best and the softest piece of meat I have ever had! Absolutely amazing!

We had the $75 myVegas credit, but it was still very pricy. But worth every dollar!

After the dinner we took the monorail to check out the “new” SLS, which opened the day before. I didn’t really liked it there, way too many people. Maybe I will come back on my next trip to ckeck it again, when it is less crowded. The casino was a little bit too dark for my taste, but that’s just me. I prefer brighter casinos like Venetian or Cosmo.

Back at the Mirage we played some more video poker and had some more drinks before we called it a night…

Really enjoying the report! Great photos always make me feel like I am standing right behind you. :)

Am also interested in the Mirage buffet quality....since I talked my hubby into a myVegas reward there next month. We ate breakfast there a few years ago, and he was pretty sure he did not want to do it again...

It looks like whatever you paid for your airfare upgrade was well invested! Geez, you probably ATE the difference on the 12 hour flight, LOL.
