    My Trip Report

    Thursday 10/31

Stats: Trip #4 this year, most ever in a year. Solo in January, trip with friend B in June for WSOP, and a spontaneous trip in August with friend C & crew who was home from overseas temporarily (the latter two have trip reports on here).

Had to work until 5, so this is one of those trips where I get in late. Depart 8:45pm out of Ft Lauderdale, touchdown around 10:30pm. Slept the whole way and always do carry ons, so got in a cab 10 minutes after landing (no line this late).

Accomodations: Main St Station for night 1 comped (I actually booked 2 so I didn't have to check out early Friday), with $75 freeplay and meal comps.

    Bankroll: $4k

Lost $75 FP after checking in and unpacking very quickly at double STP BP 10 play. Walked around Fremont with plans to put some play in at Golden Gate but it was slammed with costumed drunks, as was the rest of Fremont.

Back to MSS to Boar's Head bar and started pounding Crown & ginger ales. Decided to come out swinging at $1 VP.

I've always been a Bonus Poker player because of the easy strategy. All of the BeeJay and crew trip reports got me excited for some variance heavy VP this trip, so I started with Boner Deluxe. It started great!

I saw the appeal quickly! Until the dearth of quads hit and boom, -$200 I originally fed in was gone along with any winnings.

This was it for the day, as I was exhausted and buzzing pretty well. To be continued..

    Friday 11/1

Woke up early and had a comped breakfast buffet at MSS. Great value even if you pay the $6.99.

The D: I really love this casino. Got signed up for a players card to try to get some comp offers floating my way.. they have a promo where you earn $100 in FP if you get 1000 points on your card. I also got $50 in matchplay chips for showing my Spirit boarding pass from the previous 24 hours. Nice bonuses.

Now the downside... I tanked off about $600 at 8/5 3-play $1 STP Bonus Poker. Best paytable I've played on for STP BP, but things just weren't going my way. One of my only hits:

Loaded my freeplay and played at the Long Bar (which is great for sports watching, so many TVs). Played the $100 through 50c BP and cashed out at $90.

The matchplay chips were in $25 denomination. I'm a darkside craps player, so I bought in for $100 and put $25+$25 on the DP. Point 9, hit immediately on the next roll. Ok. Repeat bet, point 4. Great point for me! 3 rolls later, hard 4. I play for another hour or so to try to recoup my $50 but finish down about $100 total.

At this point I meant to check out the Downtown Grand but had a complete brainfart (possibly due to all the losing so far) and completely forgot, I instead decided to pack up and head to the Ho.

Planet Hollywood: Loved staying here last August and got a rate of 2 comp nights and the other two for $62 total. Rack rate for this 4 night stay when I checked was $683. The location simply can't be beat. Cosmo is 5 minute walk across the bridge, hang a left and it's 5 minutes through Crystals to Aria, Bellagio is directly across the street and Paris/Ballys is 5 minutes the other direction. Love the private Diamond check in lounge, got checked in at 1pm no problem, requested a strip view with no $20 trick and the room was fine for a standard Hip room. Decent view.

Placed a bunch of sports bets.. the Red Wings money line, Heat spread and Oregon State spread. Played some STP and had a couple ok hits but didn't finish ahead much.

The Mirage: Cabbed over in the evening to see Daniel Tosh do stand up. The Cosmo had a huge protest going on out front which had traffic crazy backed up. Took forever to get there. Used a MyVegas buffet comp and I thought this was the worst buffet I've eaten. I could barely find anything to eat that I liked.

Now their sports book bar is just as good as I read on here. Lots of seating, good view of the games, great bartenders. It was 10 coin which made the paytables for me completely unintelligible. I assume the BP was similar to 80/40/25/6/5 like at the CET properties. Nice progressive for the Royal, couldn't hit it though. Drank a ton before the show watching my Heat and Oregon State bets lose. At least the Wings came through.

Show was great, and his opening act was so fantastic that I need to find out his name. My seat for Tosh 3rd row in the Terry Fator theater.

Walked back to PHo after and called it a day. Another losing day in the books.

What was the paytable/denominations on this? It wasn't 8/5 right? Otherwise I could have a new home! :evillaugh SouthPoint does have 8/5 Bonus w/DSTP though.

May be good place for the games, but the paytables are pathetic. 30/6/5 Bonus (96.18% w/o prog) is significantly worse than 80/40/25/6/5 Bonus (96.87% w/o prog). You did pick the best game of all the ones they offer though (98.09% including progressive), so good job on that!

    Saturday 11/2

Earl of Sandwich for breakfast using Rewards credits.. I ate here for most of my meals either to end the night or breakfast. So good!

Football bets: Got hosed on both, serves me right. I'm an OSU alumni and Purdue was +32. I thought even though we crush every week, we can't always win by 5 touchdowns right? Final score ended up 52-0 or something, OSU covered. I also took Michigan moneyline over MSU even though I hate Michigan. They got beat.

Cosmo Book & Stage Bar: My #1 bar to hang at in Vegas when one game is on. Nice big projection TV behind the bar, awesome bartenders, progressive royal on bartops, just a great vibe. When there's multiple games on, the other TVs are way up high and you have to crane your neck to see them which isn't ideal.

This pic is a summary of perfection for me. A blood mary, quads and my Buckeyes on the big screen:

And speaking again of the high variance VP transition, I decided to take up DDB for the first time. Twice as many rules to know compared to BP/JOB, so I had to look at my phone in a lot of situations (I've got it memorized now).

Early into the session, this beauty gets my DDB love started..

My drink of choice became the Moscow Mule variation they make at the B&S where they use pear vodka, ginger beer and lime juice. I was starting to get tipsy when this solidified my DDB love for life:

The game is just brutal when not hitting though. That hit put me up $600 on the session but I bricked off $300 of it hitting nothing for the next hour.

Still cashed out up though. I decided to move over to Aria's sportsbook bar.. another bar I love. The TV density here is ideal when lots of games are on and for $1 their paytables are a step better than CET properties.

I played $1 DDB during the FSU/Miami game. Lost my first $300 fast, fed in $200 more.. hit a quad and got near $450. I told myself I would quit when I got even at $500. I got to $495 at one point... then lost it all. Lack of discipline to cash out at my peak happened quite a few times this trip.

Decided to check out the Bellagio book bar to decide where to watch NFL tomorrow. TV situation wasn't ideal, it was very dark, not a big fan. Lost $100 at $1 DDB super fast.

Back to the Ho, tried playing some craps, table was HOT for right side players and I lost my ass on the Don'ts.

Finished the night on STP trying to make something work for me at this point. A few nice hits..

..but then the ice cold streak hit and I lost it all for -$300. Even hitting quad As with kicker for $1k earlier in the day, I finished the day down about $1k.

Brutal. But better days were ahead..

    Sunday 11/3

Plan today was to take it a little easier gambling. Lower stakes VP and some actual poker mixed in.

Aria Sportsbook Bar: Other than the bartenders, who out of 3 I had none were very nice or quick to fill drinks, this is THE place to be for NFL sunday. I was able to sweat my bets and fantasy matchup by watching 3 different games on side by side TVs in front of me for both the 10am and 1pm games.

I hit two nice quads before the first games even started, showing maybe the tides are turning for me. I ended up playing for full 8 hours, with a short stop at Aria's new pizza place for a few slices (really good), and finished $50 total down. Even that $50 I lost all game in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd round of games, I was up all day until that point. The highlights:

And this one made me wince... dealt 4 As, with a redraw for a kicker... no dice.

Finished the night watching Indy come way from behind to cover the spread for my sports bet in the PHo Poker Room playing cash games. I won about $50, realizing if I stuck exclusively to live poker, I'd probably come home ahead every trip. The players are so bad.

Out of sports betting for the day, Chiefs covered, Indy covered, Pats covered, so I did better there today.

Last shot of the night from the hotel room. I finished ahead today! Maybe things are changing for my last day in town tomorrow. We will see...

    Monday 11/4

The final day. So far I'm down more than I've been on any Vegas trip, about $1.5-2k. Yesterday went relatively well however, despite any big winning, so I'm optimistic.

Started the day cashing in all my sports tickets at the PHo and drinking a few Bailey's & Coffee at the sportsbook bar there while breaking even on my $20 in Bonus Poker. First win of the day.

Bellagio: I headed to Bellagio to cash in my MyVegas voucher for free breakfast buffet. Love that those stupid Facebook slots have netted me 2 free buffets this trip so far. Buffet was really good.

Walking to play some craps, I pass some STP machines. I glance at the paytables, hey 9/5 JOB is pretty solid, but it's $1 min. I feed in $300 on a whim and order a blood mary. Before it arrives,

    BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE

The machine starts playing the happy happy time handpay music and the machine is locked until an attendant finally comes over. I'm a little shaky as I can't believe my trip just turned around completely on a spontaneous play because of machines I walked by on the way to craps.

This is my 4th Royal of the year, (5th all time) as I hit one at Bally's on STP in June, 2 on the same hand in August at PHo at STP, and now this one. I'm running well.

After the pay I don't play another hand but head to the PHo poker room to play some cashgames and use the free wifi to watch a webstream of my buddy in Indiana at a Heartland Poker Tour final table. Broke even.

Played some more craps a little later, first and only winning session of the trip. Changed my strategy a bit where I don't bet the DP/come out rolls at all. I then place 2 DC bets with odds and if I win both twice in a row I press my odds. Won about $75. I like this more because when the point is hit, everyone cheering doesn't have any negative affect on my bets since I don't have a bet on the point.

Hit the diamond lounge at PHo to try to print boarding passes for my flight tomorrow and the printer in the computer room is STILL BROKEN since last August when I was here. Pathetic.

Watched the Monday night football game at the Book & Stage at Cosmo of course.. didn't run very well but stuck to quarter play to not give all my winnings back. Rodgers getting hurt early screwed my GB bet, and this was my only significant hit:

The lady beside me said she had been at that same bartop for 8 hours and had quad As 5 times with no kickers, lol. I saw her get 2 of the quad As. She was nailing all kinds of quads though and said she started with $100. When I left at the end of the football game she was at about $900.

I played one last session of craps at the Cosmo with my new strategy of no DP bet with 2 DCs. I tanked off $300 fairly quick running terribly. People couldn't hit their point but managed to repeat those box numbers enough to kill all my DCs.

Went back to the room, packed, and flew out Tuesday morning.

No hookers or blow this trip, the whole point was just relaxing and gambling. Goals accomplished! Next trip schedule for January 2014, can't wait!

On a side note: I think the PHo concierge will print your boarding pass- I know they do it at Caesar's.

Great report, enjoyed it enough to post for first time on site rather than being a lurker. Really hit home with your 'picture of perfection'. We have all been there - game on, drink in hand and gambling of some kind in front of you (and especially fun with a friend at your side to share it with too); that really is the quintessential Vegas good time, at least in my book!
