    My Trip Report

Prelude: 4th and final trip of the year. I'm generally a cliff notes guy with lots of pics sprinkled in for flavor. I keep things low key... I've yet to hit a Vegas stripclub (blasphemy!) about 20 trips in, and I enjoy spending most of my time playing VP, sports betting, cigars, and general R&R.

My previous reports are similar and searchable by my username. This is report #8 since 2012.

    Pretrip itinerary:
4 nights comped Planet Hollywood (my home base of the last few trips)
Lots of VP in search of a royal, after hitting 3 trip straight and now the a drought the previous 2 trips
Half my normal bankroll ($2k~) after freak events before the trip (pet emergencies) led to more bills than normal
Make more prudent and thoughtful sports bets vs the rando-parlays I've normally imbibed in
Meet up with buddy B who has been focused on in previous TRs (WSOP player)
See 2/3 of the Phish shows at MGM
Spent some time downtown to take advantage of offers too good to pass up

    Here we goooooo...

    10/31 Friday

    - Up 4:45am. 7pm flight out of FLL, which I actually love. I'm so tired at the airport that the lack of TSA Precheck in the Spirit terminal doesn't bother me. By the time I hit my seat in the exit row I'm zonked out. I barely wake until 5 hours later, touchdown 9am Vegas time.

    - Get to Diamond checkin at PHo and my room is readily available, Hip Stripview. Not a great view but I'm happy I have a room at 10am or so to shower then meet up with B and his girlfriend/parents already bartopping it at the Flamingo. This picture taken later shows my south strip view.

    - Met up after getting all my sports bets in, then walked north. Went through the Linq which opened the day prior. The TAG bar as always looked like a nice spot to hang out (I've yet to do so), and I grabbed my souvenir chip (up to about 320 casino chips now, degenerate much?).

    - Harrah's surprisingly, while looking for B's parents, impressed me. A new bar with bartops right beside the open air craps table, new carpet... looks nice now. Headed to checkout my most anticipated discovery of this trip, the newly opened Caesers sportsbook VP bar.

WOW. Just WOW. What a turnaround from the 10 seats square previous bar. 32? VP machines from what I heard, 2 at least are All Star II machines with multiline Ultimate X and Super Times Pay (!!!!!), tons of TV visibility. Heaven. And at a CET bar no less, no more wasting my time at the Bellagio or Aria book bar which are great but comp me nothing roomwise, and at Aria, respect/drinkwise.

    - Analyzing the games, found 8/5 Double STP as the best option on the All Star machines. I ran luckily snagging one of these 2 machines during prime traffic hours every time, and I mostly played single line hoping for that big multiplier Royal/Quad. They definitely started out kind to me and I finished up. Hadn't eaten for 8 hours, and 3-5 Greyhounds in, I was feeling good.

    - Bounced about an hour after playing due to B's gf being tired of gambling for the day (11am local? amateur hour) and B is a poker player through and through, so we decided to play the 2pm $50 Flamingo turbo.

    - 2 tables, we set a $20 last longer bet (he never paid up!) and with re-entries the field got to 25-30, 3 paid. I made final table, 5k starting chips, peaked around 18k when losing a coinflip to bust in 7th. Final table:

    - After busting, played dice at PHo trying to find my perfect don't strategy (never did all weekend). Got cleaned up ready to go downtown with B and company for Halloween and planned to stay overnight at the Golden Gate (The D was comped full solid, where I normally stay if I ever stay downtown. $100 FP, $100 MP, $20 FP GG was too good not to go though). B, as one may predict with amateur hour spouses in town, bailed, saying his girlfriend was tired and parents too drunk and asleep already (8pm). AMATEUR. I find out this all with my backpack packed and with me ready to spend the night downtown. Using the rules of perfect parlay (thanks Royal Flusher) I turned a $60 loss into a slight profit parlaying to $1 and cashing out.

    - So I cab it alone. We take Paradise? up to DT because the freeway is gridlocked. Checking in so I late I get the WoRST ROOM EVER. I can't see staying at the Golden Gate again. Not only the hilariously smallest room I've ever been in, but right by the Fremont stage.

    - After a suite at the D in July this is a joke. Sweet view?

    - I smash and mash my way down Fremont toward the D. Lots of costumes, but mainly drunk dummies blocking my way. I've NEVER seen Fremont this slam packed shoulder to shoulder. $100 FP to blow, so I sweat the last of my sports bets at the Long Bar at the D on my FP. With my last legs $20 or so left, I pop a quad on my favorite game Boner Deluxe.

    - $150 in matchplay ($100 through mail offer and $50 for Spirit airlines boarding pass) turns into DISASTER. Somehow I lose each and every Don't bet on the craps table, along with more money. Yikes. Don't know if cocktails contributed at this point.

    - Decided on the 4Q next before braving the crowd toward the GG, since I have never received offers from there. Love these royal progressives with a nice view of Fremont St. Rules of perfect parlay got my 2nd $20 up to $100 for a cashout and I chatted and joked with some locals on either side me, drinking shots which I obviously at this point could have gone without. The local on my left is even showing my iPhone video of his home-installed strip pole in use. Baller?

We all love these suited progressives on the Royals. No hit for me though...

    - Reading on my phone about Phish's halloween show (the one I'm missing) and how crazy it is. Feel like I'm missing out. Oh well, still having fun!

    - My body (East coast time) says sleep mode. I know with the stage outside my windown it ain't happening. I decide to explore the Plaza a bit since I haven't been in years.

    - Thank God for 2am sharp band curfew. After these two mediocre slice I hit the sack. Yes, Aria's 50/50, Cosmo secret and PHo Pin Up are better than this pizza. Sorry. Pizza Rock, for downtown pizza, is the champ.

    Until tomorrow....

    11/1 Saturday

    - Woke up only slightly hungover, which was a win. I've got to say though, staying at the GG once is nice and all for the historical aspect, but that room smelled funky and it was the smallest shower/bathroom I've ever experienced. And I've stayed in some dive hotels in my day.

    - Main reason for the overnight DT was the luck of all of my freeplay and matchplay for November kicking in Saturday morning. I packed up and headed down for a quick bloody mary since I only had $20 freeplay at the GG. Hand #3 of the day, BINK.

I sure love Boner Deluxe. Cashed out up $100.

    - Hit the Fremont for their (notoriously cold for me) 8/5 STP BP uprights, basically just to keep my Boyd points from expiring. I have no status with them anymore. Lost $100 in quick fashion at 25c 3 play.

    - The best came at the D. Turned my $100 freeplay into $80 without a quad at Boner, then used my 2 $50 matchplays solo at the craps table. Stuck 2 greens on my coupon on the Don't Pass. Point 4. Immediate 7 out. Glorious! Plunk down the same bet and a $5 for the crew. Roll a 3 and scoop my winnings. It doesn't come easier.

    - Cab back to the PHo and get ready for a day of watching the big college football games. Check out my bets from the night before, won 5/6. No parlays this trip, I'm trying to be conservative. Hit all my instinct bets.

    - Decide to hop across the street to the Cosmo to see if Book & Stage had seats. By some glorious miracle, my favorite seat (2nd to the right of the handicap seat) was open! WV vs TCU where I had WV moneyline, they ended up losing 31-30 or something insanely close. You know you're a bit of a Vegas degen when bartenders start recognizing you. Tim in the pic below did. I love the Cosmo. Aside from handmade Bloody Marys, their Moscow Mules are insane good.

    - Machine was cold as ice and even at 25c BP, lost $200. Tried the rules of perfect parlay and never got to the 50c level. Decided it was nap time before the big first night Phish ahead. Pin Up pizza was in order first, which doesn't disappoint. I had a hard time choosing but I think it goes Aria 50/50>Pin Up>Cosmo Secret.

    - Cabbed to MGM. Place was bouncing with Phish fans galore. Amazing scenery. Whatever the main bar is opposite Whiskey Down is where I found myself both nights preshow. Service sucked because the bar was swarmed but Auburn winning against that backbreaker tackle vs Ole Miss was great for my sportsbetting (Auburn moneyline). Not to mention the Boner Deluxe quads that put me ahead during my preshow drinking.

    - Showtime neared and I headed to the Arena. What an insane collection of people. All super polite and good natured.

    - Seats tonight were right of stage, 2nd level. Great view though.

    - They opened with Fuego which I was humming all weekend to myself. Nuts.

Set 1: Fuego, My Soul, Back on the Train, 555, Dog Faced Boy, Fuck Your Face, Horn, Frankie Says > My Friend, My Friend, Roses Are Free, Roggae, Birds of a Feather, Wingsuit

Set 2: Possum, Crosseyed and Painless > Light -> Lengthwise > Twist > Wading in the Velvet Sea > Harry Hood > Golgi Apparatus > Backwards Down the Number Line

Encore: Waiting All Night, Sing Monica, The Star Spangled Banner

Bolded were the parts where I saw God. I'll leave it at that. Such a great show with some great jamming, the crowd around me was awesome and the whole place got down.

    - Left before the encore and didn't know the monorail was RIGHT OUTSIDE the arena. Nice. Got off at Ballys and stumbled back to PHo. Unfortunately a seat was open at the Heart Bar 7/5 STP bartop, where I dropped $250 quick. Only redeeming moment (and of course no multiplier, theme of the weekend):

Bed early and no shenanigans since a long day was ahead of NFL kicking off at 10am leading into Phish's night 3 (and my 2nd show) in the evening.

    Until tomorrow...

Nice report! You clearly are into Phish.
Sounds like you were around the Cosmo when I was there but I was at the tables while you were at Book and Stage.
We should plan to meet up some trip and you can teach me how to play video poker.

Nice pic of the new sportsbook bar at CP. Did they end up taking out all of the lounge chairs at the back of the viewing area where you could just plop down without being at one of the betting cubicles?

I'm not a big Phish head, but their shows are parties to begin with, and combine it with Vegas = chaos. I had only seen them 3 times prior to this trip (all 2010).

I'd love to teach you VP, as your TR taught me a lot about a nice modified Iron Cross craps strategy. I'm usually a 2 DC player by nature but have been killed so much in recent trips I don't play much dice. Your TR was amazing btw.

I don't believe behind the bar there's anything but reserved tables.

    11/2 Sunday

    - Up early before my 8am alarm. Took it easy the night before on purpose so i could endure a long day of drinking ahead. Had already locked in my NFL bets Saturday evening. Final tally for my few NCAA bets = 1/3. Notre Dame couldn't cover vs Navy, and WV lost by 1, so only my Auburn moneyline won.

    - Power walked from the Ho past the Bellagio fountains to Caesers. I didn't realize the Forum food court was under renovation and had to settle for a breakfast sandwich at Starbucks. It was reaching 9:15am at this point and I was getting worried about locking down a spot, but WIN. One of the All Star machines at the Caesers sportsbook bar was open, one of the only seats.

    - As this was a budget trip, I played Double Super Times Pay JOB single line since I knew I'd be playing for 7-8 hours. Hit 2 quads within 3 hands while watching the pregame shows, omen of luck to come? But with no multiplier, a sad reminder of how little quads boost you in JOB.

    - Had some decent hits while sweating the early games on my 10x multiplier, but nothing too special.

    - I have to say again how great the bar here is, between the viewing angles (4 games at once is no problem), the service, the paytables, and it being CET which helps my future comps. The first round of 10am games I won my Jags bet (+10.5, they lost by 10!), my Eagles bet (-1.5) over Texans, but lost my Skins moneyline vs Vikes (late fieldgoal) and Chargers over Dolphins moneyline (Chargers shut out and humiliated).

    - The big game was the late one, Broncos @ Pats. I had money on the over from the day before (53.5) and it had shrunk to 52 at this point, maybe even 51, because of supposed snow in NE. The field was clean at kickoff though and I was surrounded by Pats fans, one guy who had big money on them moneyline. Between my fantasy team having Vereen and Sanders on it, I was cheering for offense, and the Pats were up big 28-7 or so at the half. Convinced by the guy beside me that Bellichek doesn't let off the gas, I stumbled to the betting area and locked in a Pats 2nd half moneyline bet at +260. My biggest sports bet ever at this point, on a limited budget, and BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE. Pats outscore the Broncos in the 2nd half even with that big lead 17-14. My voice was hoarse by the end.

    - After the game, hustled back to PHo for some Pin Up Pizza (so so good) and to get ready for Phish. Had the Steelers/Ravens game on, and both my over and Steelers moneyline came through. 7/9 sports betting on the day!

    - Got to MGM in time to find a spot at the bar to watch the end of the Steelers before heading to Phish. Hit 2 quads on Boner Deluxe in close proximity to finish up +$120. Nice.

    - My seats tonight were opposite side of the arena, almost straightshot view of stage.

    - The people around me were so awesome. Another night of reaching the next level.. not as good as the previous show, but highlights in bold.

Set 1: Runaway Jim, Foam, Mexican Cousin, Ocelot, Sugar Shack, A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing, Halfway to the Moon, Bathtub Gin > Free, Walls of the Cave

Set 2: Chalk Dust Torture> Piper > Theme From the Bottom > Wombat, David Bowie, The Line, You Enjoy Myself

Encore: The Moma Dance > Slave to the Traffic Light

    - Instead of catching an early tram back north, I followed the wook parade post show for a while.

    - This was an amazing sight: a guy with a nitrous tank selling ice cold fattys (balloons) right on the sidewalk outside MGM on Trop. Wow.

    - Ended the night at the circle bar? at NYNY before cabbing home waaaaasted. The bar was packed with people post-show and was a great time.

    Until tomorrow...

Sweet that you got on that Double STP unit for NFL football after 9! Do you recall what kind of beer selection they had there? I really wish I wandered back there now...d'oh!

All the chumps bumping up beside me ordering were getting Coronas and such, so not really sure. I saw Blue Moon on tap, some IPA name I didn't recognize.

    11/3 Monday

    - Slighty hungover. Again. Evaluated my sports bettting scoops from yesterday..

    - After cashing them in, noticed the PHo sportsbook bar installed all new clean bartop VP machines! Now if only above the bar there was more than one TV per side... still, a good spot when only one game is on. One of my goals of the trip was to play some Triple Bonus Plus that is better as a standard CET bartop game than 6/5 BP, and can be basically played with DDB strategy. Hit a quad super quick!

    - Left up $40 after a few bloody marys and coffee with Baileys and the plan was to head to Bally's to take advantage of the monorail again to the SLS. The STP machines beckoned that are straight shot from the main bar as you walk into Bally's, as they were the machines I hit my 2nd ever royal on 2 years ago. I lost $200 instantly. The theme of my trip, near misses in VP, was becoming clear.

    - For $10 roundtrip on the monorail, hopped on at Bally's to the SLS and looked around a little, grabbed my souvenir chip then headed back south toward Caesers because MNF was approaching. My casino chip collection is up to around 325 chips and it was a rare event for 2 new casinos to be open in my home venue of Vegas since I was last here in July.

    - Played some Texas Hold'em Bonus at Flamingo before crossing to Caesers. I love UTH, but the variance is brutal, and being a budget trip, THB is a lower variance and still fun table game. Had a winning session over about 45 minutes with some fun people. As my luck would have it, back at Caesers, my All Star machine from the day before was open and I was able to catch the end of the Rangers game (I took them as dogs moneyline and they lost in a shootout) and then MNF with multiple bets on the Colts to win and one on them -2.5 first half. Easily won all the Colts bets. Still loving this new bar.

    - I continued to be taunted though. The straight flush I needed most wouldn't come through, but I hit my first of the non-Royal variety during the Colts game.

    - After football I took a walk through the cool night air back south to Cosmo. Had a bet on the latest game of the day going (love underdogs in NBA, Jazz +9 vs Clippers), grabbed a seat at Book & Stage and sweated it. The bartenders had bets on the Clippers moneyline, so we were cheering for them to keep it close so we all won. Jazz lost by 8 I think, cha-ching! The teases kept coming, this time on a nice Royal progressive at $1760.

    - Bumped up to 50c at DDB and lost 300 fast. I love Cosmo though, from the fact that none of their drinks come out of a 'gun' (Caesers has Crown Royal in their drink gun which just seems wrong) and that when I get a vodka Redbull the 'house' vodka is Skyy. Was drunk enough to call it a night since I had to pack and checkout the next morning by 11.

    Sports bet wins:
