I've just read that Bally's is next in line to shut down. All they want is the hotel space, but the casino is no longer needed.

I remember those Telly Savalas commercials "Come to Bally's baby", so I went. Good slot machines with drink choices. Then Ed McMahon said "I am bringing back the Player's Club". ok, good, but then CET came.

I was just in Revel; pretty nice place. Few gamblers, mostly lookers. So, Revel, SB, Trump Plaza are gonners; Trump wants his name off the Taj as it's run down; Bally's is next, looks like the boardwalk casinos are dead, and the Marina ones will live.

I heard that from a casino guy a couple of months ago.. I thought I read that they just remodeled the casino but people tell me CET is in trouble,so who knows?
A friend of my wife,a big player, just left Ballys and went over to Borgata because she just didnt feel safe there anymore.

Oh, Atlantic City. Does anybody really care about that place? Never been, never wanted to.

The problem with CET is they've let all of their properties get rundown. I haven't been to Ballys in a while, but the last time I did, it was a complete dump. The last time I was in a Caesars room it wasn't very nice. Especially for the cost. Those memories stick with me.

The last time I was in a Taj room, it was pretty damn nice. They'd just renovated the place. I think it was in 2010 or 2011.

Overall, Atlantic City will continue to decline until the city/state invests in cleaning it up. It may be past the point of no return though. Who knows? What I do know, is the city/state ignoring the problem is going to start costing them heavy in the taxes they're losing from gaming revenues to neighboring states. I'm sure it already has.

I am pretty sure that if you are from SoCal, you will not give a **** about AC. For people on Northern East Coast, AC looks more appealing.

The only reason I would think of staying on a boardwalk casino is for the boardwalk, beach (really?) and easy access to other properties. Unless the area gets cleaned up the main nice properties is Caesars in the middle of the boardwalk, Revel on one end, andTrropicana (maybe) at the other end. I usually stay at Borgata, and think Harrahs and Golden Nugget is nice.
Being in Northern Va, with Horseshoe opening at the beginning of next month, MD live, and MGM to be in the near future, there really isn't a reason for me and other local players to travel the 3.5-4 hrs to AC unless there is a big reason to go to.

It's too bad because I had lots of great memories in AC.

True. Then again, plenty from Northern East Coast fly out to Vegas. I would guess that AC is now mostly filled with locals.

I would be very surprised if Bally's AC was shutdown. CET just remodeled the entire casino floor. Bally's and Caesars pretty much function as a two-tier system with the higher rollers generally staying at Caesars and the lower rollers generally staying at Bally's. The two resorts are connected and share the same buffet. In addition, the servers for Harrahsonline.com (the legal online gambling site in NJ) are operated from the premises at Bally's.

Just stayed in Caesars last night. 44th floor of the centurion tower, corner room and it was very nice. Clean, modern, great bath. The casino was packed, BJ 25 and up, UTH $10, Miss Stud $10, Roulette $15. Went to Ballys, UTH $5, BJ $10, Roulette $10. Bally's casino has been remodeled and both casinos have all new updated 9/7 DB VP machines. Had 2 comped Buffet and filled ourselves nicely. Great carving station, many seafood choices. Had breakfast buffet there too, (very enjoyable only if it's comped or 241 because it's very expensive. $37.50 for 1 dinner buffet, $25 for breakfast.). Had complimentary Donnie and Marie tickets, and the show was great. What could be better, room, drinks, food, show, all on them. I think it's because we were loyal Showboaters and they wanted to make us feel welcomed.

Both hotels on Sunday were packed to the rim, and still buzzing on monday too.

And to add. In the evening no one was there as locals. These were guests enjoying the entire experience of a resort/casino from all over the eastern seaboard, this clientele you don't generally find at casino only places like Resorts World.

Stayed at Bally's last week, Wednesday thru Saturday. Stayed in a Tower room, nice beach view. Wife and I had no problems, place was busy everyday. Ate in the Diamond Lounge each day. They had better food in there than any Diamond Lounge I've seen in Vegas. Would stay there again, no problem.

Makes sense to close it. CET can keep the hotel and garage and feed all the customers to Caesers.

Yep. This looks like a reality now and no way to stop it from happening. I can't believe it will be shuttered forever though.

Goes to show you, just having a nice place is not enough. You have to offer the whole package.
When I visited AC last year the gambling, service, property, and food were great. Of course I was at Harrah's by the Marina.

Now that people in PA have gambling in Philly what's the reason to come to AC. The state needs to re-invest in the area to add something other than gambling.
The pier shops were a nice try, not sure why CET was not able to execute on that. I liked the place and the boardwalk. Probably its fair to saythe boardwalk has an oversaturation of gaming for demand and AC is a little late to re-balance. That being said if they got some strategic re-investment from state. This would include no interest loads to businesses to diversified the offering on the boardwalk. Add more entertainment options in hotels. Lastly do something about transportation for out of state travelers, (maybe some subsidize air travel to get airline to offer cheap flights).

The place has a negative reputation to overcome and add to it is a hassle to get to. This is why I am heading to the Gulf Coast instead of Jersey Coast for my vacation.

ok, when I took the Academy bus from the Port Authority to AC, there is a mag in the box I picked up. Articles on AC in it, one said Bally's is next to shut down.

Posted awhile back that a friend who is a pit boss at ballys wanted to relocate to either the mgm natl harbor or horseshoe in baltimore.

My friend said that they were having alot of layoffs and no jobs were safe. Now it makes sense.

Also awhile ago, i heard rumors that hard rock was trying to buy ballys. But the property that ballys is on is too valuable.
