So, just to reflect, Cosmo has never turned a profit, Revel unprofitable and now toast...perhaps not a great endorsement for the new type of "branding" being implemented in gambling resorts? Are the connections for SLS getting nervous?

Perhaps, but I think it's more a statement on Atlantic City, which is quickly disappearing.

Atlantic city is more of a day tripper paradise then people spending multiple nights. What they should do is blow up revel and showboat and build an out door stadium or concert venue. The view of the water would be great. They would draw a crowd, and most people would go home that night. Similar to jones beach. One of the best places to view summer concerts!

I wonder what they will do to the hotel after that? It seems like a nice spot to squat :drunk:

We've been going there pretty steadily since the beginning of the year
so I'm pretty bummed that it will close.
We were really starting to enjoy it there.
I will say tho that when it first opened we didn't like it at all.
Not sure why just didn't get a nice feel while playing.

I think one of the bartenders said that revel didn't actually own
the club or the bars, that they we're leased out. Do you think that's
why they couldn't turn a profit? I don't know how much revenue those things
    could generate

Gonna have to add Borgata back into the mix along with Harrahs.

Revel was doomed from the start. The business model just did not work in AC. One thing you must know about AC is that other than gambling and a few decent restaurants there is nothing else to do 9 months out of the year. And leaving the confines of your hotel and boardwalk is risky, at best. I have been a steady gamer there for several years and although a beautiful hotel, they never went after the right gaming market. They tried to throw terrible food and service at you which was extremely overpriced and then expected you to enjoy it. Not to mention some of their promotions which were down right scams to lure in gamblers and then not fulfill the promotion. The latter was the last straw for most people. I am certain the hotel will be reopened under a new brand with management that hopefully has knowledge of gaming and the area.

the problem was first after 2 am there was nothing to do at nite and on week nites its dead, on weekends they want 300$ or more a nite for a room they can blow me, cheaper to fly to vegas, its also jersey harder to get people from nyc to get on a bus to go they would rather go to the hamptons or party in the city were the food and clubs rock.

the strip clubs in ac suxed,
it was down hill once they lost the porn convention around 15 years ago those were fun times.

nothing ac had couldnt be found anywere else

    Revel ac to close

Another Atlantic City Casino , Revel will be closing on September 10th 2104. Property cost $ 2.4 billion to build. Management anticipates that a non casino operator will acquire the property.
Another victim of the Penna. slot parlor and racino expansion. The shame for the players is the Penna. joints are terrible with comps etc due to the 55% slot tax. I live three miles from Parx and don't play there. Did play some for a few years but they don't take care of the players. I believe we are seeing the beginnings of over expansion on the east coast. Good for casino owners but bad for the players. Think we'll stick with our two annual trips to Vegas. Sorry for the rant. Revel was a kind of cool place with all the latest slots, no buffet though. I guess too high a niche for the market.

Thats the problem. For the younger/nite crowd....theres not much to do. Even up to a few years ago you could head down and have some fun after midnight...now its dead after 2am. We tried to get into jelly(revel) at 4am 3 weeks ago and they were closed..... Last year during the summer they were open and packed till atleast 6. Shoot, I passed cashbah around 2am and they were already closed on a sat night.

Not worth the 2 hour drive anymore....might as well go to my local casino nightlife :/

I shocked it's really going to close. It's a beautiful casino. They got a little snooty when it first opened and it cost them. $16 martinis. How'd that work out for you? We were there during the pre-opening and never once got a mailer from them. Just emails about buying tickets for shows I'm not interested in.

I disagree about the restaurants there. We ate in 5 or 6 of the restaurants there and the food was very good. A little pricey, but very good.

Borgata is very good at multiple personalities. Revel reminds me a lot of the Palms but the Palms is/was much better at attracting the older locals during the week and the younger party crowd on the weekend.

Every casino in AC is $300 a night on the weekend.

That article is from 2012...and I cannot find the one I was looking for.

But if memory serves correct I believe that NJ ended up throwing in $70M in taxpayer money
