I thought this deserved its own post since it is going to be affecting other rewards within the month. After a discussion about this just a few days ago, I hate to say I told you so, but......... :poke:

INFORMATION FROM MYVEGAS REGARDING THE NEW ARIA BUFFET REWARD RESTRICTIONS:

myVEGAS Rewards: New Room Stay Requirements

    Q:The rewards are getting worse!
A: We are sorry you feel this way; we are working hard to bring you the best Las Vegas experience possible.

    Q:Why did you do this?!
A: As you have experienced, we are continuing to refine the benefits of our rewards program. The new changes will impact some players more than others, but our goal is to ensure an appropriate balance of value between our players and our partners. We instrument and carefully measure every feature so we can evaluate its effectiveness. As such, our current program required refinement.

Q:What about locals? Do they need to stay the night?
A: We offer some rewards that are only available for our out of town guests; these happen to be some of them so locals will not be affected.

Q:Will this be happening to more rewards and if so which ones?
A: Yes, you will see this in more rewards that will be releasing throughout the month. We are not sure which ones yet, which is why we will continue to encourage players to get the rewards they want while they are available. The rewards are constantly evaluated, revised and republished based on the needs of their business.

Q:If I already purchased one of these rewards but have not used it yet, will I be required to add a room stay?
A: No, the original terms on your previously purchased reward will be honored. Please bring your printed redemption email confirmation stating the date it was purchased and the original terms when redeeming at the property.

Q:Is this like FREEPLAY where I need to be staying at that particular hotel?
A: No, you can be staying at any MGM property!

Q:Can my room stay be an Mlife offer, comp, or myVEGAS Reward or will it need to be a paid night?
A: Yes, you can use any offer as long as you are staying at a MGM property and are a registered guest on the room reservation.

Q:I’ve heard of players not being able to redeem their reward because they did not book the room, will this happen to my husband and me?
A: No, as long as you both add your names to the room upon check-in. The Mlife agent will validate and confirm this when you redeem your reward.

I posted this in the Aria buffet thread but doesn't this kill any chance they had of getting new players through their doors? If you're already being comped through CET are you really going to pay for a room from MGM just so you can get a free buffet?

    No.

Hard to say exactly what their logic is, but PlayStudios likely had to choose between removing rewards completely or tightening the restrictions.

If this continues, I will not be playing much longer. We have a lot of LPs to use for our next trip, not happy about this change at all.

You are well within your 90 day period for rewards (according to your timer), you should purchase your rewards asap, if you haven't already. If you buy them before the changes, they are supposed to be honored.

I buy my rewards the minute that the last day of my trip becomes the 90th day, exactly because of things like this.

I'm definitely going to be purchasing my rewards for my November trip soon. I'm staying CET so I want to be able to at least use my 200,000 lps

That's the best way to do it. That way you have something in place, even if things later change or go away. You can always return and rebuy something else if you change your mind anyway.

So, if you book a comp room at a property through myvegas, you're fine, right?

Yes, that is okay. MyVegas rooms, comp rooms, paid rooms, all fine. I haven't heard about 3rd party reservations yet, but they are excluded from FP rewards, so we will see on that one. (I know the last part doesn't apply to most of us here, but thought I'd mention.)

    Where is this FAQ located?

I'm most likely going to be booking a package through Air Canada or Westjet or Expedia.ca vacations, but that'll be a third-party reservation? Would that count? This will likely determine which hotel I pick as part of the package, if these restrictions flow through to the premium show tickets!

They won't affect you if you have already purchased the rewards. The only reward to change so far is the Aria buffets. They haven't said if 3rd party reservations will count or not. I would just purchase your rewards as soon as the last day of your trip is in the 90-day window. Or purchase show tickets ASAP since those only have to be BOOKED within the 90 days of purchase.

This will affect me as I won't be there until February - so 90 day ticker starts mid November...

Am I able to purchase show tickets before Feb 2015 blackout dates are listed? Or I suppose I can get it refunded?

    I usually do the same.

We leave on 13 Nov 2014, so not quite there yet, but tomorrow I will be stocking up on most of my rewards for sure.

I understand the people complaining in this thread and the other one about these new restrictions but you have to look at it thru the eyes of MGM. While there certainly are players that stay at non MGM properties that do play in their casinos before or after redeeming a reward, I'm sure that they have compared the gambling patterns of the people who are non MGM guests vs those that are and found that there is a significant difference between the two. They aren't doing this out of some desire to punish CET or other hotel guests but as a business decision so that they may continue to offer the rewards in the future. Also, you can never judge the characteristics of MyVegas players based on the posters here. The vast majority of us gamble but there are a LOT of people redeeming rewards that don't and have no intention of doing so.

So if I have two nights comped from Mirage (not MyVegas) can I still purchase the Freeplay?

I typically stay at CET resorts because they give me tons of comps, but I saw My Vegas as a way to kind of "test the waters" at MGM and see how they will treat me. This thread seems to suggest that they aren't that interested in stealing customers from their rivals. Very strange business practices.

If their research shows that the vast majority of players are non gamblers then I guess this makes sense for them. I'm sure most people spend more money in the place they're staying then anywhere else.

To be clear, this is just my guess as I've never seen anything from them that says as much. Nevertheless I think you can make an educated guess based on these rewards changing and what I see on some of the various MyVegas groups on Facebook. If MGM thought that non hotel guests were using these rewards and spending money in their casinos, we wouldn't see these changes. And remember hotel specific rewards aren't just preventing players from CET guests from using them but also those people that are guests at other MGM properties. Personally I don't have a problem with them making some of the rewards available to only that hotel's guests. And you're right, people do spend more money at their specific hotel.
