    Hi everyone,
First allow me thank EVERYONE on this message board. Thank you for posting, thank you for coming in to say hi, thank you for your honest opinions, comments and issues that we can help with. Many of you have given me insight to our customer service, VIP, and gaming experiences here at the Plaza and Las Vegas Club. So bravo and hats off to you....the customer! As with any business, we need you as a customer. Your thoughts, opinions and input are an asset to us to improve what may have been shortfalls in the past to create a new present and future. This post may seem long and I will try to keep it as short as possible as to not bore anyone. However, it will be informative.
In a recent post, it was noted that a "tip" was given to upgrade a room reservation. This can not and will not be standard practice. How do I upgrade? You may ask. Two ways, one is to upgrade paying the upgrade fee. Which I know, most do not want to pay. Or contact one of us casino hosts to check if your casino play warrants an upgrade. Now, if you are a true gambler paying your upgrade fee will actually benefit in the end. Meaning, pay the upgrade fee, then go gamble, and just before check out sit down with a casino host and check your casino play to possibly have that room comped.
BINGO play can not be considered when evaluating a casino player. Although a person may play heavy BINGO, that play does not equate when identifying which incentives are offered to a casino player. I really enjoy my BINGO players, but I am very honest with them and tell them you have to give me some slot/VP/table time for me to be able to comp anything. This same concept goes for sports betting aficionados.
Plaza Tiers: starting from top to bottom, because I want everyone to become an Ace player: lol
    Ace: 100,000 points
    King: 25,000 points
    Queen 2,000 points
    Jack 0-1,999 points

    Reel slots give $1:1 point
    VP: give $3:1 point
Right now we are in the process of revamping some VP machines to include points as some do not right now.
New promotions will be starting come September 1st. Details to come.
I think that is all for now. If I type too much I will not have anything else to say later. lol Have a great day everyone. :)

What kind of offers does a jack or queen get, generally speaking? And is that per day or per trip?

So you are now cracking down on the 20 dollar trick? Is that what you are stating?
For a room that would be otherwise unused? Sad considering your front desk folks make probably
peanuts. As a local I never go there as is. Now I will never go for sure.

Then your business won't be missed... will it. I always thought the whole "sandwich trick" thing was stealing from the company anyways. The property owns the rooms and has a right to attempt to get a premium for them. Why should any desk clerk have the ability to run a "sideline business" by upgrading customers for their own benefit? Because they make "peanuts"? Does that logic hold for any regular business where the employee decides to give him or herself a raise by till-tapping or taking items home? Cause they make "peanuts"? C'mon now...

I do believe desk-clerks should have some authority and/or latitude to upgrade customers for legitimate reasons, but not to enhance their personal income.

Looking forward to our anniversary trip in November. Sure wish you guys would install a low boy, (accessible) black jack table! We've really enjoyed playing at the Plaza, but I'm in a mobility scooter and just can't get in those bar stool chairs anymore.

Many hotels do allow their clerks some latitude in room selections and even upgrades if available. Some you can get by just asking but others might need a little more greasing to get them. Probably the clerks "save" the better rooms (the ones facing the strip, Bellagio fountains, etc.) for people who "tip" them which is unfortunate but a fact since the standard rooms are available to all. While it may be the hotels policy to not allow this tip it does happen, that's why we have the $20 "trick" thread.

Actually it is some hotels' policy against the $20 trick. Not saying that it doesn't happen but if you ask some hotels what their policy is you will get that response. As others have mentioned, not a big loss if you don't stay at the Plaza, why should you get to pay an extra $20 total for a room that probably cost a lot more PER NIGHT.

As for the crackdown, of course it (tipping) still could happen, some people will give the million dollar smile and say that it is their anniversary, birthday or whatever special occasion and slide the tip over (as Curt's response mentioned, it isn't a standard practice but that doesn't mean that it won't happen at all - I mean upgrading). Just that the Plaza's policy is to not allow tipping. We shall see if this is enforced and if clerks who violate the policy are punished. Of course the guest could keep it quiet (to not get the clerk in trouble) and not mention it on any board. It is probable that some hotels know their guests very well and might give those regular customers the "better" or upgraded rooms without the need of a tip.

I think it's pretty cheesy to address the $20 trick. It is tried at all Hotels in Vegas. It would be proper to address your clerks instead of the board. Members would start posting that it didn't work during their stay. Mission accomplished.

I never in a million years would have thought my mentioning that on a Vegas message board with an active $20 trick thread would have opened this can of worms. It's a tipping town, most of us tip waiters, bus boys, cab driver's, shuttle drivers, the host at a show that gets you a better seat (wink, wink) and on and on. I have been doing this ever since I started going 20 years ago downtown, off strip and on strip and always (I don't remember ever getting nothing or being turned down) get something good for it. I honestly thought this was just the way Vegas rolled and I never want to get anyone in trouble. It is probably good advice I suppose to those of us that do this to keep it quiet.

The Plaza is a cheese-ball operation to be addressing the $20 trick. Maybe we should address how many gifts and secret envelopes the hosts receive. Its accepted practice in many hotels and all the supervisors an managers know its happening and allow it. Its not stealing from the company as smartone noted. Some people should actually work in the business before making these kind of comments, it makes the employees look like ******s when in fact they're earning a living within the means of operations.

Go into a bank sometime and cash a $100 check... as the teller is doing the transaction, slip her a $20 and tell her you'd appreciate an extra $50 or so... see what kinda look it gets you. Or go into Burger King and buy some food... slip the employee a $5 and say you'd appreciate a few extra Whoppers in the bag. Not gonna happen... What about even at the hotel? Tell In Room Dining there's an extra $20 for her if a bottle of Jack shows up and isn't included on the bill.

Absolutely tipping for good service in Vegas is a staple, but people selling things that's NOT theirs to sell is sleezy at best and IMO stealing, though I absolutely agree the hotels should be dealing with those accepting the "bribes", NOT necessarily those offering.

I'm Platinum level at Hard Rock and part of that is a free room upgrade... theoretically, I should be able to move up from a King Suite to the Corner King Suite (little larger, extra bank of windows and only 1 neighbor), except there's never any available, cause the clerks are selling them off running their own little operation. I learned to just book the Corner King Suite and pay the extra to do so. I don't bitch about it, but I'm there 40-50 nights a year and paying extra for something that the "program" states is available to me, but never is cause of the sandwich trick. I don't blame customers at all... I find fault with a system that looks the other way.

Those are the most ridiculous comparisons Ive seen. Not even in the same ballpark. I know you think you're the resident Las Vegas expert but give it a rest. Many hotels actually encourage the practice especially when its slow. Good marketing to encourage return visits. Think about it.

Many do encourage pushing upgrades, as revenue to the hotel, NOT the employee... Wynn/Encore asks every single time if you'd like to upgrade, for a fee, that goes to the company NOT a clerk's pocket.

They do both. The MGM group for instance gives the employees a bonus if they can upgrade someone from a base room to a suite as long as the room is not comped at the end of a trip. The bonus can add up quickly, so quickly that there are clerks that make a grand or two, extra, every month from bonuses. Basic upgrades make nothing and are allowed at the discretion of the employee. So why not make the customer happy and make a few extra bucks? Managers allow it and in fact do it themselves. The suits know. If they know its not stealing. I'm sure there are hotels that have strict rules against this and those are the exception. What the plaza host posted here was not in good taste, that is my beef. This board is all about good deals, good eats, how to sneak into a better room and where the good gambling is.
