    My Trip Report

Another installment of pure gambol. This trip will be even more pure gambling since I'm going solo. I've been working my butt off for the past week, and I thought I deserved a treat. I'm sure live TRs in this section don't get as much attention, but I'madoitanyway! I get off work at 8am on Tuesday and will plan to drive up and arrive around lunch time. I will have tapatalk for the live updates but doubt many pictures will be posted since most of my time is at the dice tables where they frown upon phones. I may post some reverse chip porn...pics of my empty palm where a stack of black chips should be.

I'm rethinking my dice betting. I've always been an aggressive pressor. I've learned that in BJ, you can stretch your buy in if you flat bet at a slightly higher denom and only pressing occasionally. I usually start single unit place bets on dice and press to the moon. This trip I plan on starting at $44 inside and pressing to green chip and same betting. Hopefully, by being less aggressive, I can stick around long enough for a monster. The flipside is that when that monster comes, I won't be able to press to black and I'm ok with that since it happens so rarely. We'll see if I can maintain any discipline.

I also plan on green chip BJ and quarter VP to fill in any time away from the tables. I'm hoping I can turn things around this trip as I'm 0/4 on winning trips this year.

I will definitely be paying attention to this live report! I'm thinking of making a trip out there in October.

IIRC your last trip was downtown. If you enjoy casino hopping, the Atlantis is probably not where you want to be. It's all alone, way down Virginia. The Peppermill is the closest casino about a half mile up the road.

It's more of a locals joint and they comp accordingly. I gave Harrah's Reno about a years worth of play and got very little in return. The Atlantis has been very generous. I've been trying to figure comp% of theo, extrapolating from the reports by folks at mLIFE properties in Vegas. I play mostly dice at rated $50-70 avg for 4hrs or less per day and I earn about $50-60/day in comp dollars on top of the room. I have no idea what the rack rate for jacuzzi rooms are but I'd guess it's at least $100/night. Of course actual losses are usually beyond the estimated theo.

I do enjoy casino hopping to an extent, but in Reno you get over that quickly. I do like downtown, but I want to checkout Atlantis or peppermill. This next one may be a family trip.. similar to what I did in february. We went up with me, my wife, my brother, his wife, my sister, my parents and the kids.

My dad doesn't care for drinking and staying out anymore so we would have someone to watch the kids at night. Would peppermill or Atlantis have anything to keep kids entertained during the day?

That should be the MOTTO of craps players in Reno...lol.
EDIT: The wife and I were up in Lake Tahoe this past weekend...she said she'd KILL ME if I drove into Reno, lol (We won $400 on Video Poker in Tahoe) With all $10+ tables in Tahoe...I had to beg to go into Carson City to play dice...Casino Fandango had $3 dice..played for 15 minutes, barely eeked out a $50 win and RAN!
FWIW: Silver Legacy comps REALLY well on craps (just gotta make sure you get the right boxman).

I'm happy with what the Atlantis has given me. I can't imagine getting the same level of comps anywhere else. Only thing I would change is the unbusyness at times. I'd rather the dice table be full all day.

As to the question about kids, I don't really know. They have an outdoor and indoor pool. They also have an arcade area. I'm not sure what qualifies as kid friendly entertainment beyond these two things.

The first session was brutal. I maintained discipline and only pressed after recovering double my initial spread( $70). There was a lot of point seven out. I managed to get my field parley up to $80 but it didn't hit. I start at five and if it hits at $80 I rack half and give the other stack as a toke.

I think I felted in under an hour. I tried to slow down and play some vp but it was also just as cold. I dropped $50 really quick and cashed out.

There were 2 green chip bj tables. One of them had a black chip player so I decided to hit the other table with a fellow green bettor. Single deck 3:2 but otherwise restrictive rules. I think the wizardofodds calculator put it at 0.7%.

The first dealer could not be broken. I drift down about 6 units during her shift. I don't think I ever hit a streak allowing me to press. The next dealer tapped in she immediately got me back to near even. I feed back about another hundred and decide to color. Table mates were pleasant but all 3 of them never drew vs dealer high card. They would stay on 14-16. I read a thread here suggesting not to get bent out of shape since it can just as easily help or hurt.

At this point I'm down about $600. I decide to give dice another go. I've got about three bills left from the bj session. The dice table is still ice cold. I buy for another marker and quickly grind down to all in. Finally 2 hands roll getting me back to down five bills. The first hand was an old guy who threw 4 points in short order. I hit my field parley at $80 and I stack the dealer's $80 and he asks if I want to color to green. I smile and say "fo da boys!" The second hand is mine. I manage to nail three points but one of them was a ten for that delicious double money. I hit a lot of my green chip place bets. I actually manage to hit the field parley again! The pit jokes that I should leave it up. I think it better to rack and toke instead of getting greedy. Of course next two numbers role 3 and 9.

I stuck around for another point seven out a and color down five bills. I head up for a soak in the tub and discover there is a steam shower. I think this is the first time my host put me in the concierge tower. I've never noticed a steam shower in the other rooms I've had. Holy cow that shower is amazing. I'm going to have to read how to actually use it. It took me a couple minutes to figure it out. I have no clue if I should just sit in the steam without the water running or both going simultaneously.

I'm currently sitting in the concierge lounge for the free apps. I think I'll give the dice table one more chance before I shut it down.

    Previous Nugget owner would have...
Also, in Reno you'll never see busy dice table...I looked every weekend for six years...like I said, between Eldo and Legacy you could keep a busy dice table..

Since I arrived the dice game has been at least half full. I'm ok with this amount of people.

The brutalizations continues. Another marker down in about 30 minutes. Only highlight is that I hit another field parley again. That makes three for the trip. Too bad it's not enough to keep me afloat.

I was all in near the end and finally a small roll happened. It got me another starting spread. Of course that went the next hand. It's funny how going all in can result in a decent hand, giving a small glimmer of hope.

Any who, sitting down for some dessert. I'm down half my trip bankroll. I have to decide if I want to save some bankroll for the last day or be willing to go home early if I hit it hard tonight and tomorrow. This is a new level of degen for me. LOL!

2 scoop banana split! 3 scoops is too much and 1 is not enough. I decided to split a marker between BJ and dice. I go up and down on green chip bj but can't fight the tide. I probably got about 30 minutes out of 2 bills. I only got to press a couple times. I lost on a doubled $50 bet. That was a tough one.

After grinding down, I buy in at dice with the rest. I made an executive decision to reduce the starting spread to single units inside but keep up the $5 PL/5x odds. Place bets go to 2 units then same bet on every hit after. I should have realized that the original starting spread was probably too big for my usual buy in. This reduced spread is about $50 depending on the point. This session lasted about an hour and I actually walked away with about a third of my buy in. I got my field parley up to $80 twice but couldn't make that most important hit. No good hands again. There were enough points made to keep from getting felted as quick as the previous sessions.

Total damage today is over half my trip bankroll. I'm hoping that I can survive tomorrow and make it to the 3rd day. I'm planning to work out tomorrow and have my own in-room spa morning. I'm also going to hit up some of the local boutiques, TJMaxx and Marshalls. Going to try and avoid gambling before lunch.

For some reason the Atlantis always 2 dice tables open for the night shift. They are usually only half full. One is always $3 but it would seem to make sense to just run 1 table.

Your tip is quite generous when your field parlay hits. Why not tuck that into your rack if you're losing and decide near the end of your session if you want to throw a few greens to the boys? It might give you that little bit extra $$ you need to survive til one of the bigger rolls happens. Just a thought...
Good luck! Roll a monster, so we can see your rack filled with blacks

It is generous but the dealers deserve it. Most players are stiffs. I used to put up place bets or line bets as tokes. Since I only try the field parley once per shooter it amounts to the same money off my rack. I also get something out of it!

Just finished chatting with some local retirees over breakfast. I know so few retired folks, so it was nice to hear about their lives. Before breakfast I got a nice sweat working out. I actually brought my foam roller up. I felt weird walking through the casino with this thing, but it's so worth it!

View from the concierge lounge. It's a foggy morning.

I'm going to have my in-room spa day and maybe do a bit of shopping before lunch. Maybe I can scrub all the bad mojo off me and turn the tide at the dice table.
