So I love the game of craps, but I also know how quickly one can burn through lots of money at a cold table.

I haven't been out to Vegas in a couple years, so I wonder if the craps minimums have increased at places like the Joker's Wild or Eldorado? Where in Vegas (off-strip is fine) can I find $1, $2, or $3 craps?

Aside from that, are the "Shoot to Win" craps machines still available at the lower limits as well?

Shoot to win is still very low limits, and available all over the place.

We just played the machine for $2 at Caesars and $1 at Hooters and Treasure Island.

I've often wondered though, if indeed the table is cold and it's empty, would it make sense to play the don't pass and don't come bars instead? Take advantage of the table's coldness and frequent 7s?

How do the payouts work in low limit craps? I would assume the lowest you could go is $1 and be required to put $1.50 on the 6 and 8? I just can't imagine casinos wanting to deal in quarters though. And, if they don't deal in quarters the house edge must be unbelievably horrific and make the game completely unplayable.

This may or may not help... don't know how up to date it is. http://www.a2zlasvegas.com/games/crapsdir.html

Joker's Wild used 25 cent chips. Place bets were $1.25, with 6 and 8 being $1.50 each.

I think 10 years ago I played $3 craps at Gold Coast, and they did NOT have quarter chips. Back then I was a beginner, and all of the locals were saying to immediately press my place bets on the first hit for a proper payout.

I can't even comprehend $3 craps. A place 5 and 9 should pay 7 to 5. I can only imagine on a $3 place on those numbers that they'd give you $3.50 or $4 when a place bet on those tables should pay $4.20 for the 5 and 9. Seems like you're giving up way too much money to play that game. Stick to $5 craps. The casinos are cleaning out your pockets on these carnival craps games!

Either that, or only place $5 on 4,5,9,10 on those tables. You can place the 6 and 8 for $3 and not have to worry about getting paid correctly.

If you're playing the passline, you'll most likely be okay with a $3 bet... as long as the number isn't 6 or 8... then you're screwed on getting paid true odds.

Ah, I wish I was in the casino business. I'd fill the casino with 6:5 blackjack and $3 craps and wait for the suckers to pour in!

Freemont downtown advertises 24 hr $3 craps. One of the tables is $3 even thought the placard may say $5. Look for the Pink $.50 chips, that will be the $3 table. It isn't always the same table.

If I'm not mistaken, Casino Royale doesn't offer $3.00 craps anymore - it's a $5.00 game now. At least it was during my last visit in February.

The Fremont, downtown, has a $3.00 minimum game 24/7. It's always crowded, but it seems to be the last #$3.00 game in Las Vegas.

The way that low limit craps works depends on if the table uses half dollars or not. The above-mentioned Fremont has a supply of $.50 checks and will pay $3.50 for a winning place bet on the 6 or 8. The odd joint that has low limit craps and doesn't use half dollar checks or coins will take pay even money on the 6 & 8 for $3.00 - and you'll frequently see players making these bets, despite the horrid odds.

Back in "the day" there were any number of $.25 tables downtown and you could place the six and eight for $1.50 and get a correct $1.75 payout. You'd see lots of guys betting "Six Seventy-Five across!" all day long. Goooood times!

The last time I played craps (August 2013), it was at the El Co...and it was a $3 table. Almost everyone was betting $5+ though.

And I remember, years ago, when Binion's Horseshoe would let you bet from $.50 to $10,000.00 at the same table (and didn't give a rip!), They had rolls of $.50 coins in the crap banks. They'd pay you $3.50 for a $3.00 place bet on the 6 or 8, but only pay out one fifty-cent piece!.

You'd have to give it back every time you won another $3.50 bet for a $4.00 payout. It was as it those half-dollars were made out of gold!! It was just hillarious! :haha:

They had the biggest cash bankroll in Las Vegas. They'd take a $1 million bet on the crap table. Teddy B. had a ton of siver stashed in the safe. And the crew had to safeguard those fifty-cent pieces with their lives!

Things certainly were more colorful in old time Vegas.

Seems to me $3 craps would be the most lucrative game in town if they could make people play for $3. Not having to pay true odds on a 6 or 8 come/pass bet or whacking the player on the 4,5,9,&10 place bets seem like a great way for the casino to scoop up a ton of found money.

    Bill Bennett would be proud.

Casinos don't have to dicker around with a Mickey Mouse game like that to rip players a new one - they'll gladly do it to themselves!

I was out on a casino ship from Floirda this past week and there was a player who inisted on placing $25.00 6 & 8 bets all night. The crew couldn't convince him to make it $30.00 or back off a single dollar to make it $24.00. Nope. it was "$75.00 6, 8 and 9" all night.

AND there was a "don't' bettor at the same table who called "No ACTION!" on every 6 & 8 as well.

PLUS there was the guy who threw in $30.00 on every come-out with the call of "Buffalo World!"

No. There are plenty of stupid, smart-ass, showoffs just begging for the casinos to take their money to keep the smart crapshooters gambling in air conditioning instead of tents for years to come!

What is a "Buffalo World?" Is it a "world" bet? $30 for $6 each sounds pretty generous on that bet.

Confirmed that the Fremont has $3 craps all day. Not always on the same table so check the card against the table wall. The El cortez also has $3 craps but the minimums vary during the day. As others have mentioned, anything less than $5 usually isn't a good deal because your payback doesn't reflect the true odds but some casinos like the Fremont have .50 chips that make it close to true odds.

Why would you go searching for a $3 table to play on and then pay for $5 when there are a ton of $5 tables? The point was to find a table less than $5. It defeats the purpose of finding a cheaper table if you're planning to play $5 on the passline every time
