Are "neighbors" bets the same in America as in Europe?

In other words, at for example a $25 minimum-bet roulette table, if you put down $125 in chips and ask for "8 and the neighbors by $25" does this count as a bet of $25 on number 8 and the two numbers on either side of it on the wheel?

By my definition, this is what neighbors but it also depends on the levels of neighbors you are playing. People play neighbors in different ways. Just depends on the player.

I've never been to Las Vegas yet, and was wondering if there was a "standard casino/dealer definition" at roulette tables there, meaning "the number and the two on either side of it" for the purpose of "call bets".

It sounds like "not", then?

 

Yes for the European wheel (single 0) with the neighbors track it is the same at most casinos. I would recommend playing at the Wynn as they are the most knowledgable of all the European roulette rules including complete bets and the different "thirds".

yeah, knowing the european system i find this very annoying too. the european calling system is so easy.
throwing the chips on the table and announcing "7-1-1" and everybody knows what you want.
same for zero game, small game/series, and so on.
but in europe you have mostly 3-4 "dealers" on each table. in the US it's mostly 1.

small story: visited a popular formal german casino. was chatting with a "croupier" about tipps and trunk and I said, "if you would throw the numbers that i bet you would get tipps more often"....the chef/master "croupier" of the table said, "lets test our guy here" and pointed to the "croupier" with the ball. i said, "can you do the seven"...the "croupier" with the ball said, "you might want to bet also the neighbors, because my aim is a bit strange tonight"....ok, 7-1-1 it is.
guess what number came.....

i tipped them 5 pieces.
i played 7-1-1 again, with 2 chips now on 28....result 4.
i said "no tipp"...and they laughed.

 

A word of caution: I don't think that the numbers are in the same order on the US layout either.
It's not the same sequence with the addition of the extra green "00".
The neighbours of 8 will be different numbers than you are used to.

Yes - the arrangements of the numbers on single-zero wheels and double-zero wheels are different from each other.

But all single-zero wheels are the same as each other (on both sides of the Atlantic!), as are all double-zero wheels.

So which numbers the "neighbors" are would be different at single-zero and double-zero tables, but the principle of the bet is the same, is it? "Neighbors" means "the number and the two numbers on either side of it on the wheel" over there, just as it does over here?

All I'm really asking is whether the dealer at a Las Vegas table will know what you're talking about and accept your bet, if you ask for "some number and the neighbors"? (It's kind of essential, for "advantage play" - such systems wouldn't be playable at all without using "neighbors bets". )

 

Yes, but I think you would be hard pressed to find a $25 table European wheel with a "track" behind that takes neighbors bets. At all the places I played at, and I DO like roulette, they are all $100 table minimum or higher. Usually they don't have the track on the main floor, only in the HL room. I've played at Venetian/Palazzo, Wynn, Bellagio, CP, and MGM.

That "$100 minimum" makes it acceptable to place five $20 bets on different numbers, for one spin, does it?

Yes. You would be good with the 5 20 bets as long as they are all inside. Meaning all numbers bets, no red,black, even , odd,etc.

If you do the outside, it also has to be 100

 

Thanks ... I wasn't sure about this (but had been thinking that $100 on an individual number sounds pretty high to be so common a "minimum stake"). That's ok, then. When I said I was looking for $25 minimum tables, I was thinking that my normal bets on 5 adjacent numbers would come to $125 per spin, which is about my limit. But $100 bets in the form of $20 on each of five numbers is comfortable for me. Now I just have to find the places with single-zero wheels.

 

I think I have noticed the track on at least one wheel on the main floor at Aria. But it was last year and I cannot remember the minimum bet. Not even certain it is still out there, but might be worth checking out

 

Bellagio has it on their main floor but there isn't a "track" so you would just have to place the numbers yourself.

Where is the single zero wheel on their main floor? I didn't notice a single zero wheel on the main floor last time I was there, but will look for it next time. Thanks

 

I've heard from another source that Bellagio does have a single-zero wheel on their main floor (but don't know how up-to-date that information was).

Putting the bets on by hand doesn't work for me. I play three adjacent "neighbors" (i.e. 15 bets per spin, of 15 adjacent numbers on the wheel, so I can only realistically do it where you can call - for instance - "3, 19, 17 and the neighbors, please", for your 15 bets).

I'm starting to think Vegas may not be such a great place for me to do this, actually. Which is a shame, if so, but it's not always so easy in Europe, either.

In March there was one on the main floor, it is one of the first tables when coming in from the lobby. I think it is the one closer to the aisle-way.
