I think this topic has been raised before but I can't find the thread so

I like to have the bed made, etc. but I also like not to have to worry that HK will misplace my stuff or steal, etc. (I've had a couple of small items go missing over the years)

So I'm rethinking the housekeeping thing - maybe it's just as well to get fresh towels and not let anyone in the room.

    thoughts?

I leave the do not disturb sign up 24/7.I'm low maintenance, so why risk it?

Me? I wouldn't dream of opting out of housekeeping service. And if the hotel offers a turndown service, I'm on that too. I love coming back to a clean, made up room with all my dirty clothes picked up off the floor, folded and arranged neatly, ready for packing.

Yeah, it would suck to have my iPad stolen (everything else of value is in the safe or on my person). But I think the odds of that happening are so astronomically slim that I don't think it's really even worth worrying about. (I'm not saying it doesn't happen...just not enough to cross my "worry threshold".)

But really, my opinion is pretty irrelevant to everyone but me. We all have to do what makes us comfortable. :peace:

Wow, that just sums it up. +1 with a  kicker.

This is another of those topics/concerns/experiences where player A NEVER will convince player B and vice versa.

It's housekeeping for us. Valuables go in the safe. Tip on the counter.

For the last 20+ years, I've spent a few days each month in a Las Vegas hotel/casino and have stayed at most of them (the last 5 years mostly at the Hard Rock)... I've never once had anything stolen. I don't think it happens anywhere near as much as some like to portray, though it's true it only has to happen once... to you... to be a big deal. I almost always use the housekeeping services, as I too love coming back to a fresh and clean room. I'm sure they love me, as I'm a very clean occupant. I'm not careless with the stuff I leave out, but also not anal about it either. I've left my laptop out, my IPad and my wallet out before. I don't make a habit out of it, but I've done it. I also do something a few here don't do either... I leave a tip out for housekeeping, usually $5. Does the $5 bribe them from stealing my stuff? I don't think so, I do it cause I sincerely appreciate how hard they work.

I always enjoy reading property reviews on Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc. It seems as though the same visitors who report having things stolen remarkably also stood in ridiculously long lines to check-in, were helped by rude people who didn't know what they were doing followed by uncaring supervisors when they complained. These people didn't get the rooms they reserved, which were extremely dirty, with hair in the drains and smelled like weed, etc... oh yeah, and someone from the hotel stole their stuff too!!! In short, many of the reviews where someone reports something being stolen are accompanied by a laundry list of other "catastrophes" where it appears they just have a hard-on for the place and get a bit carried away adding things to the list of things that angered them.

There've been some reports on VMB, from very solid posters of having had something of value missing from their room... and I absolutely believe them... but others will have you believe some kind of wild fiesta, looting party will go on in your room if you don't put the Do Not Disturb sign up and lock everything in the safe... to that I call baloney!

My do not disturb stays up unless the girlfriend thinks I made too big of a mess. I don't like the thought of having someone in my room with everything out. I don't bring computers or expensive items except clothes and a few pieces of jewelry but it is just the idea someone had access to everything while I wasn't there.

I usually don't have HK. I also leave my DND on the door unless I am staying in the same room for 4+ days, then I may have them come once. I don't bring valuables with me so there is nothing to take, but I just don't like the idea of someone in my room. I can make my own damn bed. If I need towels or maybe a new trash bag for all those empties I will usually catch HK in the hallways and get what I need.

HK doesn't bother me except that the first round comes too dang early so DND stays up til I drag myself to lunch/brunch and then if they do a second round, they are more than welcome. If not, I'm cool too.

Like somebody already said, Player *A* is not going to convince Play *B* to do it their way.

But - we almost always put up the DND sign. We never throw clothes around... okay, maybe the last outfit is still on the chair from last night. We never throw towels on the floor. Since we are usually CLEAN after taking a shower, the towels are fine to use again. The only thing we ask a maid for is coffee packets - if they even have coffee.

+1 on the "Do Not Disturb" staying up the entire trip.
HK is always available. Just ask for an extra towel or two.

We have so much stuff around the room odds are something will get stolen or tossed by mistake.

Id just like to add that I wish when they make the bed they wouldn't put the stupid throw pillows back on. I throw them in a corner every day for a reason. :). Function over decoration.

Not in Vegas, but hotels I stay at these giant barrel shaped pillow/cushion. They get flung on the floor first thing. They always wind back up on the bed after HK makes it the next day. I can't figure out the purpose of the giant barrel pillow/cushion. I don't need all these superfluous pillows.

I love coming back to a house kept room. I'm a bit lazy at home so I like those extra comforts when I go away.

Rarely use housekeeping for environmental reasons. Towels can be used more than once, likewise with sheets.
Used to enjoy the LVH's "Go Green" option that offered a daily $10 voucher for not using housekeeping.

No HK at all...I will stroll down the hall to the nearest cart for extra Coffee and etc. Tip a couple bucks and say no service thanks.. Hope this gives the maid a free 30 minutes or so on their shift.

I agree with Andy's green approach. We hang and re-use towels, don't have 'em flip our sheets o'er a moderate stay. But we still like housekeeping. For us it's actually more important higher up the food chain. Circus Circus shaking down a regular room ain't like Four Seasons in a suite.

I hang my towel. Half the time they replace it anyway.
