As a chip collector, I was wondering if Aria had purchased and made any chips for their casino? I would like to buy some samples if they did. I know their existence is slim but still worth asking. Any other Las Vegas possibilities besides Aria?

Of course they do. All casinos have their own chips. A simple Google search will show you hundreds of images of them. Just stop by their casino cage next time and buy whatever you want.

Most casinos that have table games also have chips for their casino (Aria definitely has chips). The best time to pick up chips is when the hotels just open or if they bring out a redesigned chip. My vegas trip last month I visited the Cromwell and got some brand new chips (I usually pick up $1 chips though). I also picked up some chips from the Las Vegas Club, apparently they brought out new redesigned chips so I picked up some from there. Previously I picked up chips from the Quad, they will probably be items since they will be changing names to the Linq in the fall so will probably be discontinuing the Quad chips.

But with closings in the past few years I also picked up chips from the Stardust, Sahara, Western (downtown), etc. before they closed.

Some casinos may not have $1 chips though, they may use coins in place of the $1 chips. Those are the smaller (usually off strip) casinos though. I think the Westin is one of those places (no $1 chips).

Some hotels also bring out limited edition chips. The Palms is one of them, just go up to the cashier and they have a board with all the recent chips that are available (and some that are sold out, can't get them but good to see). The Palms had a number of chips with the Playboy brand on them. Some other hotels like the Fremont and MSS also bring out special chips to commemorate certain events and some of those chips are still seen on the crap and bj tables (usually $5 minimum chips but some are $25 chips).

I am a chip collector also and if you guys are interested please check out the Chipboard.com and the CC+GTCC (CasinoChip and Gaming Token collectors club)
They hold a convention every June in Las Vegas, past few years have been at the SouthPoint..New members greeted with open arms and people will send duplicate chips they have to help the newbies with their collection.

But be aware that the Nevada Gaming control supposedly does not allow casinos to sell chips directly from the cage anymore so you may have to buy in at a table and handpick the best condition ones as best condition always matters down the road..

Just a couple years ago the Palms cage was friendly enough to let you buy say $100 in $5's and sort though those chips off to the side and keep the ones you liked esp. after the Playboy club upstairs closed and those chips went into general circulation on the floor. Some of their Limited editions have become scarce and collectible...Rio has a few also and I always check my buy-in stack at blackjack table to see if an odd one is in there.. But best wishes in your collections and if I can help feel free to PM me.

If you buy in, can you take a few to the cashiers cage and perhaps simply exchange them for chips in better condition? That wouldn't be direct selling.

I've had luck with cashiers cherry-picking them for me.

I collected $1 chips one trip, went straight up to the cage with a dollar bill and asked for a dollar chip. 99% of the cashiers spent a few seconds looking for the cleanest chip.

You are correct, there are some casinos that won't allow you to pick up chips at their cage. I encountered this at the Gold Strike in Jean and the Tuscany. At the Gold Strike I just went to the table and asked to buy chips and the dealer allowed me to select the cleaner chips for my collection.

I had a fun story from the Tuscany, since I couldn't get chips at the cage I decided to play bj to get my chips. I was going to play a hand and cash out but I kept on winning so kept on playing. I turned my $10 into $100 and was able to get some nice chips in the process. I returned to the cage with my winnings, the female clerk just had a sour face, gave me my winnings and stepped away, guess she was unhappy that I won and got my chips, lol.

But most casino cages will allow you to buy chips from them, most being very helpful to find the best and cleanest chips. Some cages will not, I think it also depends on the clerk also.
