For such a small casino they are doing all the right things. I'm in the middle of a one week stay downtown, staying at the GN, and I am amazed at how fun the casino is. From Sunday through Tuesday the Golden Gate has been packed at night until the wee hours of the morning. The dealers are great, pit personnel are very friendly and they have very good $5 BJ, all 3/2. The Golden Gate kind of reminds me of the old Barbary Coast, small but lively. For the low roller who is looking for a great atmosphere on Fremont Street the Golden Gate is a great place to have a good time.
Agreed, always have fun there. The bar has a great selection and is reasonably priced if you're not playing and the party pit is still one of the best (especially for the games offered). And indeed the pit bosses have always been nothing but super kind (I ended up with what I thought was too many comp dollars after a couple of craps sessions that I did well at, was tipping a lot).
Liked it before the party pit. The rooms reminded me of "The Shining" if you've ever had the pleasure of staying there (redrum.) I could just see the twin girls down the long corridor. Too loud for me, anymore. I have a hard enough time hearing without the music blasting. However, I do love their craps tables. Have they gotten rid of the constant shuffle machines for blackjack?
it's about 50/50. I think all the $5 tables are constant shufflers, but the 10/15/25 tables have a shoe. the do have automatic shufflers at those tables, just not the continuous. During the week the 10/15/25 tables are usually $5 as well, but on the weekends or busy nights they bump them up. I love GG. My favorite stop for blackjack with the D a close second!
Nope, not me. I visited the GG and the D in June. As someone else mentioned, the music was too loud for me. Yes, I did like the scantily dressed women but my ears hurt too much to stay for very long. Hey, I thought that as we get older we would be more hard of hearing? Still not at that point yet, I heard the loud music perfectly. Give me the mellow atmosphere (and music) of MSS, the Cal and Fremont any day.
I haven't stayed at Golden Gate but always visit there a couple times when I'm in Vegas, always a good atmosphere and drinks are well priced.
Speaking of 3/2 BJ at Golden Gate - last trip - pit boss said "get a pic, you may not see this again!"
Which? 3/2 BJ or the shoe? I was just there a couple of nights ago. They have taken out the bubble crap machine. I liked to play that in the mornings after I woke up. Everything else was good though. Two Free Bet Blackjack tables. I like that game. I like MSS for quiet, I like GG for party atmosphere. I much prefer GG allowing doubles after splits on the double deck game.
