So what haven't they closed in there yet? It seems like they're shuttering a lot of things...

$18 resort fee, nowhere to eat a normal downtown lunch or dinner, and poor vp machines to boot...me thinks they just dont get it.

My advice to the management team at the DTG: "When you find yourself in a hole - stop digging." It is almost unfathomable how a group of paid executives could be so inept. I used to root for the DTG and had hopes they would see the light and turn things around. Now I'm leaning towards hoping they go bankrupt ASAP and an owner with experience downtown gets the property on the cheap and capitalizes on the potential there.

I'm still rooting for them. It is an impressive reconstruction, and my wife and I enjoyed both of our stays there. What's sad is that bean counters seem to rule the world. Sure you've got to contain costs when you're losing money, but you've also got to figure out how to grow revenue. Increasing the resort fee by almost two thirds while cutting services and amenities doesn't sound like a winner.

We all keep saying it, but apparently they don't follow this board or other threads where people comment. They need to attract more people and entice them to spend their money. Best way downtown is good gambling and reasonable food and drink options. They had some good table games, but it sounds like they've cut back there too.

    1. Remove revolver from holster
    2. Load cylinder
    3. Point at foot
    4. Cock hammer
    5. Squeeze trigger

Of course, they probably couldn't get this right either......

I took a look around the Grand last night to see what all the fuss is about. Business seemed to be good (a regular Downtown Friday night). The casino was bustling. The place was clean and looked great. I even peeked in a few different restrooms - they looked clean and well-maintained. The restaurants/bars seemed to be doing well - with the exception of the Mob Bar. It was dead, with only one couple sitting with their drinks. Generally, the "vibe" in the Grand was good.

$18 Resort fee, to go with shuttered restaurants?... Anyone know if the resort fee is charged on comped rooms?

Answering my own question... I had an offer in my Inbox so I called. Yes, a resort fee is charged on comped rooms. The dimwit on the phone said it 'was probably $9'.

I told her it was raised to $18.

    Silence.

I have double booked the Grand for my brother twice now on a comp and was not charged a resort fee. The one time I was charged, I booked a room on the "match another offer" promotion they had going for a while. June 8th there was no resort fee on our comp.

I am a Downtown Fan. I really want the DTG to succeed. I hope there is someone in mgt. monitoring this board. Similar to Feadolphus at the Plaza.

If there is someone from DTG monitoring these threads, my question: Can't you at least TRY to compete with the other casinos around you? Maybe your business model did not pan out and you're not attracting your target demographic, then maybe you should change course? Survive until you can find your niche market. In the meantime, target the low roller gamblers, they are what is fueling the Downtown casinos for now.

Such a nice casino/hotel. It would be a shame to allow it to fail. Raise resort fees? That's nuts. You're nailing your coffin shut.

But who knows...if they changed the resort fee, maybe they changed the comp policy???

I did send an email to a front desk person I happened to an address for asking for clarification, but no reply so far.

When I stayed at the Grand, my rooms were comped and there was no resort fee. I booked directly through a host, so maybe it was different for me.

This is really sad. I LOVED the Grand when I stayed there, and I had high hopes I found my new home base for years to come. The Hotel and Casino was clean and new, the entire staff was extremely friendly, the BJ rules pretty good, and I really liked the food at the Chinese Restaurant. It will suck if they can't get their stuff together.

The first thing they NEED to do is put a gigantic, can't miss, even Ray Charles could see it, neon sign out front that is visible from under the canopy to attract people into the casino, and make the walk up 3rd street seem not only safe, but inviting as well. You can't find new customers if people don't know the casino is there, or feel uncomfortable walking there.

After our stay there two weeks ago, I wonder how bad things really are.

Every employee we dealt with were great, I talked to a BJ dealer that works part time there, and at the D.
She said she makes about the same money, and if offered full time she would rather work at DTG

She said she has been there since December, and that since April, things have really picked up on the floor.

We stayed Friday and Saturday, and tried getting another two nights, but they were sold out on Sunday.

They were busy both nights we stayed, my wife did good on slots and I won on BJ. VP bites but my wife loved it here so we will be back.

At Four Queens she's fine during the day, but at night she thinks the crowd gets a little sketchy. We didn't see that at DTG nice friendly crowd both nights.

Maybe the restaurants closing, is to stop the bleeding till they find something that works. To me they should market to 40+ couples they want to see Fremont St. But be able to walk one block and get away from the craziness.

We already decided our next trip will be two nights at DTG and two at either MSS or Cal. Then decide who treats us better. Either way I hope DTG makes it.

We weren't charged a resort fee on our comped room.

On my last trip there was this "bag lady" right smack in the middle of 3rd street and there was no way you were going to avoid her. She had eyes like a hawk and would zoom in on you like a hawk would on prey. She would ask you if you would care to give some of your hard earned vacation money to her.

And she has no memory whatsoever. Because she would zoom in on you again on your way back. And she will ask you again. Maybe little things like these, if they weren't in place, would make for a more attractive way to get customers in the property. The lady was harmless, but she does set the precedence.
