    My Trip Report

Stayed June 20-26, my husband and I (mid-forties). Both flew on Delta FF miles with no major issues getting there or getting home. We arrived late, around 11:30 pm Friday night. Rented a car thru Thrifty – no problems. Originally we were booked at the Golden Gate for the 20-23 (comped, plus f&b, and free play), but ended up only staying there Friday night. We were able to get two comped nights at the Downtown Grand for Saturday and Sunday. Thank goodness we had the room at the DTG because there is no way I could’ve stayed in the GG room for more than one night. It was so small! It was clean, and had a nice shower, but I felt like the walls were closing in on me. I think for a solo traveler on a budget it is perfectly fine, but I won’t stay there again unless desperate. We stayed up gambling/walking Fremont St. until about 3 a.m. which was 6 a.m. our time. Having been up since 5:00 a.m. the day before and worked all day before traveling, I was wiped out! Next morning had breakfast at Dupar’s (we split an omelet and pancakes) and it was great.

Checked into the DTG around 11 on Saturday. Nice bright room, although the half-door shower stall is weird. I could hear noise from the biker bar across the street or from the pool area, I’m not sure which. It did not keep me awake at night though. We had a refrigerator brought up and they said it would be $15 a day, but upon check out no charge was on there. Nice touch! Checked out Container Park during the day. Really cool concept. Bought a few items in the shops. We would’ve stayed longer but it was too hot. Went to Laughternoon at the D on Saturday afternoon. It was enjoyable, not fabulous. I ended up on stage which I don’t particularly enjoy but somehow it always seems to happen. It was still a good way to beat the heat of the afternoon and keep me out of the casinos for a little while. On Saturday night they were doing a freeplay give away in the DTG casino and I ended up winning $200 fp that I turned into about $140 real money. That was a nice bonus! Had dinner that night at Le Thai. It was awesome – will definitely be back.

On Sunday 6/22, ate breakfast at MMS buffet. It was okay. My husband managed to eat quite a bit. I barely ate a thing due to the MANY Fireball shots I had the night before (I just never learn:nono:) Then we went to the DTG pool, which they call Picnic. They were having a special event with DJ’s to coincide with EDC I guess. They were charging $25 per person to get in. We got there at 11 and were only planning to stay until about 2:30 or so as we had plans to watch USA v. Portugal in the World Cup at 3:00. They gave us free entry. It’s a good thing too as I would have been ticked off if I’d paid to get in. The “party” was really lame. The DJs were awful and played garbage. I’m not opposed to that type of music, but this was really bad. I think I knew 2 songs the entire time I was there. They played one song for at least twenty minutes and the only words said were “only you.” Repeatedly. For twenty minutes. Other than the horrid music, I liked the pool area. They had loungers with umbrellas that were free of charge. It’s fairly small but was not crowded at all. Went to Pizza Rock to watch the soccer game and ate some awesome pizza. Another place I will definitely revisit. Later in the week we had 550 at Aria. Both great, but if I had to choose one, it would be Pizza Rock. Had to nap after the game, then gambled the night away.

Monday 6/23, we checked out and went to EAT, a small restaurant across the street from the back side of Container Park. It was really good. Husband had the pancakes which he said were better than Dupar’s and I had some egg scramble with jalapeno sausage. It was awesome! Did the Neon Boneyard tour. It was okay, but over priced in my opinion. Went out to the Silverton because we’d never been there. See no need to go back. Around 1, we went to Planet Hollywood to see if we could check in. Originally we were going to be at the Wynn paying for two nights, one night free. Then I saw a tweet sent out by PH Host Hunter before he joined VMB. He was offering to match or better other offers. So I sent him my Wynn offer and he gave me three comped nights at PHO in a jr suite. He later upgraded us to a panoramic suite – nice! We really enjoyed the extra space and for once actually spent time in our room. Thanks again Hunter! Hunter is a super nice guy and even if you don’t use his services, you should stop in and meet him at PH. I don’t play at a level to need or warrant a host, but Hunter still treated us like VIPs. We had tickets to Love so we went to the Mirage. Had some apps (spring rolls and bbq nachos) at BLT which were good. We thoroughly enjoyed Love and would go back. It also made me want to go see MJ One even more. Next time!

Tuesday 6/24, Think we skipped breakfast. Went up to MGM to play the Lions Share. I have to say I was surprised how loose it was. I got pretty excited for a while. Several times I had two lions showing and the third was lurking very close. I thought for sure I was going to hit at least the $10,000, but alas, I did not. I did cash out up a few hundred though – so that’s something. I think at that point, it was my largest win of the trip. You know you’re not having a great gambling trip if you have to cash out of the Lions Share! We basically slotted around the rest of day and got pretty day drunk. We had reservations at Gordon Ramsey Steak so I had to take a nap. We enjoyed GR Steak. Yes, the music is a little loud, but not off putting to me. Our waiter was a tad snobbish but also hot so he was given a pass (at least by me;) not so much by my husband). I thought all the other servers and manager that we talked to were very friendly. The bread is fantastic. We shared the salad with green goddess dressing. Husband had the pork chop which he said was great. I had the rib cap. I’m not a huge steak lover, and usually only eat filet mignon. The rib cap has now ruined me and it’s not something I can readily find around here. It was delicious , fabulous, melt in your mouth goodness! Paired with a great cabernet and I was in heaven! We had the mac n’ cheese and the haricot vert. I wasn’t overly impressed with either but it didn’t matter because I was already stuffed. Being too full to eat the sticky toffee pudding we vowed to come back the next night for dessert. I think our tab was about $172 which I paid for with RC’s. Rode the High Roller then went back to PH to gamble the night away.

Wednesday 6/25 ate breakfast at La Salsa Cantina in the Miracle Mile shops. Can’t beat 3.99 and $1 bloody marys! We walked the strip and got day drunk again. Took a nap (josh I’m getting old!) The plan was to go to Giada’s for appetizers at the bar since we didn’t have reservations, then to GR Streak for sticky toffee pudding. Went to Cromwell and played awhile and had a few drinks. By the time we went upstairs the bar was full. So we just went on to Ramseys and got seats at the bar. Ordered the Kobe beef sliders and Alaskan king crab appeitzers. OMG good! I’ve had king crab straight from the ocean in Alaska but these were better. They were the biggest legs I’ve seen and so tasty. They served them with a homemade cocktail sauce that I liked better than butter. Of course, we finished with the sticky toffee pudding and it is as amazing as everyone says. Can’t stop thinking about it. We decided this will be a must do every trip. I have to say I enjoyed sitting at the bar more than at the table. If I were with a group a table would be fine, but with just the two us we enjoyed the bar atmosphere more.

Last day, 6/26 – packed up, did a last gamble around Planet Hollywood, ate at In N Out then left.

    Final thoughts –

-gambling was pretty bad. I have a couple of small wins less than $500, but nothing notable. It seems like I was getting lots of bonuses but they just weren’t paying out much, even at max bet. Played some .25 VP with no luck. My husband, who never plays it, sat down next to me and hit Ace 4oak with a kicker PLAYING 2 CREDITS!!! I was so pissed at him I made him leave and go somewhere else.
-the Linq is really nice and I’m glad I rode the High Roller even though I didn’t want to
-the Cromwell drinks are excellent and the IPad system is much more efficient. All the workers/servers there are exceptionally nice (and gorgeous).

    Can't wait to go back!

Forgot to add that the new drinking rule downtown didn't really bother us at all. I thought it seemed much cleaner than in past trips. A lot less homeless people.

On DDB hopefully? Too bad it wasn't on your max bet, but at least it wasn't a royal! Aces w/kicker still pays 400 for 1 regardless of the number of coins played on DDB.

Good summary! Hope the gaming goes better next time!

Yup, that's what I was going to say...still $200, so no "penalty" (other than playing 8/5 DDB :evillaugh )

Thanks for sharing! We usually gambled at Caesars Windsor in Ontario and they have a drink order system right on the machine, attached to the slot card area. VERY handy. No need to find a waitress...order a drink and it comes right to you.

Only problem is we have to pay for the alcoholic beverages at Caesars Windsor.

Breanna...very true! Mother-in-law didn't mind that at all, as long as she got her wine. :drunk:

At least here in Calgary, they can comp alcohol.

Great TR! Laughed HARD when you made your husband leave for not betting max! Love it! Also great to hear about Hunter. I think I will pm him about my last dealings with our host. We are not on his radar for sure, but maybe he can give us some advice.
