The "Heart" Of The Strip

As I was heating up my lunch at work, I overheard a lively conversation in the kitchen from a group of ladies talking about locations of the strip and what is considered the "heart" of the strip.

So, one woman says, "oh I stay at the Riviera when I go to Vegas, it's the heart of the strip". Another woman chimes in and says her home hotel is the Tropicana and THAT'S the heart of the strip.

I am of the mindset that Flamingo Road is at the "heart" of the strip (4 corners of Bellagio, Ballys, Caesars and now Cromwell).

I started to join in the conversation with my thoughts, but then one of them started talking about she heard how nice the rooms are at The Barbary Coast and she thinks her and her husband will stay there next time they go. I knew then what I was dealing with.

So . . . . what do you consider the "heart" of the strip?

Before City Center was built I would've agreed with you. Clearly Flamingo and LV Blvd.

Now you can make a pretty good argument that it's a bit further south.

I would say the Harrah's, Linq, Flamingo, Cromwell, Bally's/ Paris chunk is what I consider the "heart".

 

Agreed. I think the Caesar's/Flamingo area is the 'heart' of the Strip. Correct or not, I refer to the area as 'Center-Strip'. For last months Mancation, we changed it up a bit and stayed at MGM. I didn't really care for it. Very nice property but TOO far removed from my 'comfort zone'. And after visiting the new Linq/Quad area, I'll never stay to far away from my comfort zone again. My girlfriend and I will stay at the Mirage for an outing in two weeks, and TI in September!

 

Agree with the rest here -- the "4 corners" of Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd are the center or the heart of the strip to me.

 

Standing on the overpass connecting Bellagio and Ballys and looking up the Strip in either direction tells you that is the heart of the Strip.

 

I agree that Flamingo and LV Blvd. are the heart of the Strip.

For me personally, everything radiates out from The Mirage.

 

Yeah, this is what I am thinking too: from Casino Royale to Paris. On either side of The Strip thats where the majority of the activity is and where most people are hanging out.

But for me I don't really need to put a label on everything and am not going to feel sad or down if I am not staying "at the heart of The Strip" - the only time it really matters to me is when somebody is going to Las Vegas for the first time I will recommend that they stay somewhere that is in the "heart of The Strip" so that they can be there where all the excitement and action is and then on future visits they can pick somewhere else based on what they want/need.

But thats just based on my own personal experience: our first trip to Las Vegas we stayed at Ti and I can say I found it amazing when we were walking The Strip during the day or the night and saw all the hustle and bustle of the people in the area and all the glitz of Las Vegas from the Sirens of Ti to the volcano to the Bellagio fountains and the size of Caesars Palace... I do wonder if I would have fallen in love with Las Vegas as much as I did that trip if my first stay to Las Vegas was one of the southern properties like Luxor, Excalibur or MGM Grand.

 

The four corners is a good answer but for me The Mirage is the center of the universe. This will become more true as the north strip gets redeveloped.

I fell in love with Vegas back in 98, 1st time @MGM. Been back every year since

 

I've always thought of the sidewalk right in front of the Bellagio fountains as the dead center of the strip.

 

As much as I hate to agree with a Buckeye :Þ - Go Blue! - I would say the Bellagio is the center. Interesting what will happen if the the northern part gets some more properties.

Yep. LVB/Flamingo is the heart of the Strip. Nothing north of Mirage/Venetian or south of PHo/Aria need apply.

 

I don't think it would change... too much of a gap past Ti/Palazzo.

As it is now, even though Palazzo and Wynn aren't that far past The Venetian, its to about to The Venetian that most people seem to be willing to go and then after that the majority turn around and start heading back south.

 

Are you saying no one will walk to Wynn/Encore? Hmm, I do that all the time and I'm an old fart and always go in the middle of summer.

 

I am also an old fart and agree with Auggie.

I haven't been inside Wynn/Encore in years, although I think they are gorgeous.

I stay/play in the "heart" of the Strip because I base all my decisions
on "What is within limping distance?"
