Is it worth going to the Plaza sports book to watch the NFL on Sundays? Is it crowded and is there a beer section near by? Thank you for any insight you can give. -TMC

Yes, in my opinion it's worth going. They have quite a few large HDTVs and decent seating. It likely won't be too crowded, but there will certainly be folks enjoying the games. If you get there a little more than an hour before kickoff you'll likely be able to get a table to sit at for your party.

The bar is 15 steps away and in the past has featured $2 domestic bottle beer specials during football season.
If you get hungry, Pop Up Pizza is close by.

In my opinion it's the best sports book downtown. I'll be there watching NFL Week One.

Last year a group of us (5) were there on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was busier than Saturday, but we did find a table an hour before kick off. By far the nicest sportsbar downtown. It is a large space with a bar within spitting distance from your table. There is Pop up Pizza which is very good. They also have a food court on the other side of the casino. If you make more than a $20 wager, they give you a drink ticket. My first set of bets totaled over $500 on Saturday and I asked for some tickets. The writer said sure and handed me two. I said thanks and gave him a $5 tip. He said hold on, and gave me six more tickets.

The Golden Nugget is nice, but it is way to small. However, I did notice that during the games they do have some drink speacials. Not as cheap as Plaza, but they were trying.

I was at the Plaza in early watching NCAA baseball and race bets. It does have sitting but, in my opinion, not enough.......unless you're there early to save sits. There are numerous big and small TV's that wrap around the "sports book" section. Drinks will come from the bar which is in that section. Don't expect cocktail service. I never saw any waitress the 3 hrs I was there watching the games and betting on horses. If smoke bothers you ( like it does me), you will not like it.
To say that the Plaza "sports book" is the best one in DT Vegas is an indictment on how badly DT Vegas needs a nice, large, viewer friendly sports book. That's one reason why we stopped staying DT Vegas.

Our sportsbook is AMAZING!!! It is the best looking sportsbook I have seen downtown. Yes it will get crowded but that's expected come football season. We do have a bar right next to the book. Come give it a try. :)

I enjoy the Plaza's book more than the Nugget, thats for sure...The GN's is so small I feel like I'm sitting in a amusement park ride or something. I heard they had plans on expanding it.

Hey Curt, can you reserve me and my pals a table in the sports book for the Sunday of NFL Week One? :D
Just playin'. We'll be there though to bet on and watch the games.

I'm one of the pals so I'll interject and say he's not playin'. Just cordon one off with whatever is handy, it doesn't need to be velvet rope. :nworthy:

Seriously though, good info on the drink tickets above, mraudit. Looking forward to 9/7.

I can't comment on how busy it is for NFL. For basketball, I found it to be the best place to watch downtown. It would be my first place to stop if I were downtown for any sports event.

I agree best downtown. That said it's not without it's issues. Was there to watch last years Michigan State v Michigan game and these two Georgia fans asked if they could share the table with me as they were there to watch Florida v Georgia.
I said that would actually be great, as I had a rooting (I bet on Georgia) interest in the game and can keep an eye on both much easier this way.

So the three of us talked some college football and the Michigan V Michigan State game started.... and where was the Georgia game?? No where to be found. They went to the betting windows to see if a TV could be switched to the Georgia game and they were blown off. About 15 minutes after kickoff they left for another spot to catch the game, as they never did get the Georgia game on.

During the football season last year they had a hot dog cart open at the sports book on weekend days. Nothing earth shattering but it is a convenient quick bite that is close by.
