Oh wow, I recall the problems with their checkin software a couple years ago at, I think, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Hope it's not a repeat of that!

Why weren't you able to stay at MGM? If their computer is down they should be able to check you in using a paper check in (I would think)

Nevermind - I just read your post. Great read.

One question - you seem to feel that Cosmo's best rooms (fountainview terraces) aren't any good because of the noise. I'm staying there later this week. What type of room should I ask for?

    Great report, as always!!!

Loved the food pics. The slot hits are like a foreign language to me, maybe I need to learn!

It is insane that MGM handles the computer outage in that manner. I can only assume most guests don't have the other options some of us do. I can't imagine what it must be like for someone who is doing a "once in a lifetime" Vegas trip and has it ruined by something like this. Seems like they are as insensitive as they are incompetent. My only experience staying at MGM was bad as well. I never even consider the option despite occasional offers. Screw em.

I'm not a slot player, but is there anything to learn? Isn't it just a push on the button and see what the outcome is? (I mean the ''fun'' slots, not the VP)

Another wonderful report Diana! That is crazy the way MGM handles the computer system being down! What a PITA with your players card at V/P. They really should have pro-rated your points based on what you did put on your card at the appropriate level. I miss the V/P at times....still haven't played there since they pulled the comps a few years back. Perhaps it's time I forgave them lol. It is so fun that you are always being recognized in Vegas from your blog.

UKFanatic, it didn't last as long as their outage of a couple years ago that according to their registration clerk went on for 4 days! You would think by now that the M-Life hotels would have some sort of back up system when they get these computer problems, they certainly have had enough of them, LOL!

    Thanks Sybgal and Vedda!

It depends what days you are staying there if you hear the nightclub noise. This Wednesday for example Chateau at Paris is having some sort of DJ event which is likely to be loud and on Thursday I think the action gets going at Cromwell's Drais nightclub, then of course there's nightclubs at Cosmo and Aria. Cosmopolitan's fix is for us to wear earplugs and they will give you complimentary earplugs. As far as what room to ask for if you want to make sure not to hear any noise it should be a non-fountain view room on the other side of the hotel as far away from the strip as possible. I still love Cosmo, I just wish the boom boom boom from the bass of the nightclubs didn't bother me so much. Of course when I was younger I wouldn't have noticed because I wouldn't have been going to bed until around 5am, LOL!

Have fun and good luck this week!

BTW, I was really sorry to miss you and the guys this trip, but as you can tell I was busy changing rooms a lot, LOL! One of these trips though….

MGM Grand did offer access to their pools for those who couldn't check in and gave us out free water, I guess for those who didn't have plans for the day and could wait it wasn't as big a deal and of course I'm very impatient, or as some would say spoiled. ;) I agree for those who are doing a rare or once in a lifetime Vegas trip it's not a good way to start their vacation.

Very true, though I have had a slot malfunction in a winning combination before and had to call over a slot attendant and supervisor to review the win and pay it out correctly, so it does help to understand the pay tables. Also today video slots come with various levels of volatility (in addition to whatever percentage of pay back that casino has it set at) and a knowledgeable player who perhaps wants to play for a long time and rack up player points instead of going for a big jackpot might want to know which slots they have more of a chance of getting consistent small hits on then others that only hit 50 percent of the time with varying levels of wins.

Breanna, I likely should have insisted they correct my points, but at the time I was just so happy I found a employee who understood the problem and corrected it for me, I let it go. LOL! The powers that be were stupid with that stunt they pulled years ago but then again sooner or later I find all casino groups do something to hurt us like M-Life's interesting auditing they did a couple years ago that cost some of us a lot of our M-Life express comps. For what it's worth you will likely get offers from them again if you go in on one of your trips and give them some play for a hour or two. My Mom's been getting comped offers from V&P this year and she hardly gave them any play.

Hope to see you again in Vegas, it's a shame none of our trips have coincided. BTW, I will finally see Claire this year next month during my family birthday trip. :)

Great report. They need to get Aliyah a thumb sucking appliance or she is going to have developmental issues with dentition.

    Wonderful read as usual.

Sorry to hear about having to change hotels. Stayed at TheHotel two years ago and they had the same computer problems. Fortunately, it happened the night before check out not check in. Biggest problem couldn't bill to room for restaurant charge.(may have had it comped ) Hosts were swamped with people complaining so did not add to their already burdened troubles.

That is a bummer about V/P too, A shame you lost all those points.

Fun to hear of all your slot fun and wins.Looking forward to my August visit.

    Thanks RM777. :)

I feel so sorry if you are hearing my voice in your head, my voice is not one I would want be hearing. LOL! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the TR!

Glad you enjoyed the report. :)

I had that problem with charging some restaurants to my room back in February when Venetian/Palazzo had their computer hacking issues so I know what that's like. Not fun for the guests who are comped or the poor staff taking the heat.

Have a great time in August. If you are going to be there around the 24th, let me know.

    Hi Diana

Great report as usual! I'll be in Vegas the 10-13th of July and then at bellagio slot tournament at end of month. Maybe our paths will cross again!
