The Caesars Palace Poker recently re-located to the heart of the gaming floor between the Colosseum and the Race & Sports Book. The new room features a $4 take on all No-Limit games and a $3 max take on all limit games.

I am reading that the area is open and so it can be noisy.
Also, smoke leaks into the poker area from the rest of the casino.

I read the intention was to give $2 an hour comps and that the drop for promotions was just a dollar. However, I expect those generous bits will change once they establish regular players. For limit players a $3 rake with a $1 drop and $2 an hour is almost too good to be true.

I walked by the poker room last weekend. The staff were making the final preparations to open the room on Friday, June 6. It is right next to the sports book, (more or less) across from Mesa. Without making a judgement on the previous location, I actually liked the layout and proximity to the sports book. Sure, you might have some smoke drifting in, but it's not like it is right next to the slots. Seriously, it can't be any more smoky or noisy than the poker rooms at Aria or Bellagio.

It's generous for CET, but they would still make money with this offer.

Well, profit is not something generally reported about poker rooms.
Here is an article just yesterday in the Las Vegas Sun about the waning of poker.
    http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/mar/01/trend-wanes-las-vegas-casinos-fold-poker-rooms/

It seems strange that Caesar's new room is not even mentioned there.

I do think that CET learned they can't do what they did recently, increase the rake and double the drop to the point where even those who love poker don't want to play there and the casino taste of each pot is so great that it just makes limit play impractical.

But in the face of this reported trend, it sure is a light in the dark to see this new room opened.
On the other hand, it was a light in the dark when CET thought they could make more money by not charging resort fees too. Unfortunately, that battery depleted.
I'm just hoping that I can get to Vegas in time to play in this cheap room before the rake rules change back. I also like that it is right on the casino floor because as a limit player, I want the walk in play from the average tourists just out for a good time. I suspect all the old guy limit regulars that went daily to the Palms will move to Caesar's. For decent pots and some chance of winning, I need some its-only-money folks at the table to balance the competition.

And I'm wondering if the new rake and single dollar drop will inspire the Flamingo room to go back to what they used to offer. They did back off a bit and bring some of the deals back I guess. But I don't think they changed the rake back to something reasonable.

Right. Thanks. I misnoted the date.
However, I've not found much published about the room. Seen any good articles?
If it had been a ferris wheel, every placement of a chair would have been reported. With photos.

I was there last night. You'll never see a limit game get started there unless you bring seven people with you. I live here and play both NL and limit, It will never happen.

Good to know Sinatra. Thanks so much. I guess my decision to stay downtown and out Boulder is still the best low roller strategy for Vegas. That is what I was trying to figure out.

I play limit and no limit on a regular basis. In Vegas, I stick to no limit. I don't play poker all that much there but I have found the low limit NL games to be much softer than my average home game and based on the regular group I play with that is pretty remarkable.

My preference out there is VP followed by tournaments with good structures. I love the Grand series at the Nugget and will probably play a few of those starting next week.

Just had a read of the 'why I stay downtown' on your blog, and found it all very interesting.

I see you play a fair bit of poker, so I could well be some of the value which stumbles into one of your games if you're at the Nugget over the next 3 weeks :)

No, it is looking more and more like I might manage a trip in the fall, but there are lots of family issues that might make it impossible. I just read that the double bonus high hand awards are 2am to 2pm now. Nice. I don't think the new player's card extends to the poker room. Four hours of play gets us a $10 voucher for food but it is dated and just good for the one day. Of course, if we play the 4 hours in the Bonus high hand time, then the date carries us through and entire day. You keep track of it yourself, so it is good to ask as you buy chips, note the time, and then go up for the voucher in 4 hours or so, even if you are going to play longer. It is an antiquated system. Also, remember that the American Casino Guide has a coupon that will get you $10 in free chips when you buy in.
I play a lot of limit poker, but not no limit. If I end up in Aria for a night, I'll play the 2-6 Monte Carlo spread game. I loved it and hated it last trip al based on table selection.
Every time I"ve upgraded for some reason and stayed upscale I've regretted it except once when Harrah's gave me 5 free nights (based on poker play) and put me in a really fine room. But if MyVegas lets me cover my first weekend for just the price of resort fees, then I'll sample some places, maybe even Aria.

I was last in Vegas last fall. Here are my poker experiences

True, I've seen little talk about it. Seems like Vegas Chatter had a short post, but otherwise not much. I suppose traffic in that room had dwindled to the point serious players don't give it a second thought. Honestly, I'm surprised they re-opened the room. I figured they'd just kill it.
