Red Rock Resort vs M Resort

I am having the hardest time ever deciding which one to stay at, I want to try one of these places for a couple night before moving on the strip...I am staying solo- which one would probably be the safest to stay at for a solo female? I got such a great rate for M Resort but for some reason Red Rock is calling my name and I just don't know what to do...Thanks in advance for your advice!

 

Both are great choices. I would say the M though, especially if you have a good room rate. Great buffet and other eating spots, really nice pool area, beautiful rooms. The other plus is that it's a direct 5 or 7 miles to the strip right up the blvd or freeway. Red rock isn't as easily accessible to or from the heart of the action. I slightly prefer the M casino, but in that category it's close. I think the M has the upper hand in rooms and buffet, with a slight edge on the pool, depending on your preferences. I think both are relatively the same in terms of safety being a a solo female.

 

I just did Red Rock solo. I loved it! (I'm female, 29) Great place. I thought it was nicer than most of the stuff on the strip! That's saying a lot. The rooms are awesome and plush, HUGE bathtub which was nice (I like it pamper myself and relax a little bit when I'm solo). The casino is big and beautiful, they have a big food court and I ate at the cafe a few times myself that was nice. Also checking out the canyon is nice too! It's a big place, and there is a ton to do there, you could conceivably stay there for a few days and never leave and be completely happy. Make sure you ask for a room near the elevator. I was the last room in the hall, it was like 5 miles away I swear haha!

I haven't stayed at M, but I have a feeling it's really similar. I've been there and it has the same feel as Red Rock... I would guess just a matter of opinion.

The only issue I had with Red Rock was it's a tad far.. I mean there was never any traffic getting there, but it's still about a 20 minute drive to the strip. Didn't bother me that much though. I just happened to plan a lot of stuff on the strip, my own fault. I got it for $37 on Hotwire! Can't beat that. But, M is far too. I'd stay at either if given the chance. But I'd probably choose Red Rock because there is more to do there.

 

I would be willing to bet the M has the tightest machines in Vegas.

 

I actually hit some small wins on slots the last time i played there ( i barely play slots overall however). Not nearly as tight as most of the strip or immediate off strip properties. Off strip properties are usually better paying in terms of machines than you would find in most of vegas, at least in my experience.

 

I am not the only one that thinks that. You may have hit, but I bet you are in a minority. The Megabucks went out at the M either last fall or the year before, but they are tight.

 

Have stayed at RR lots but M only once. Flip a coin on amenities, the only negative with M was in the mornings they didn't have tables open until noon (pai gow) and didn't have anyone
qualified to deal it. Only had a couple of blackjack and craps table open. Actually won there, very clean and quiet.

 

I'm the opposite of clr. Stayed at M 12 times or so and only once at RR. M has been very good to me offerwise and I don't like the Strip so I don't usually go anywhere else.
Here are some notes from my RR stay last year (with some comparisons to M).

Good
Awesome view. Best in Vegas if you're on a high floor on the Canyon (even numbers) side.
Very nice rooms but I wouldn't say they're better than the M.
Summerlin is a nice neighbourhood. I like the proximity to useful stores, restaurants, and of course Red Rock Canyon itself.
Guaranteed $25 Blackjack in high limit room.
10X odds on craps.
Lots of full pay VP. However, VP bars are not as nice as those at the M and they don't comp Grey Goose.
Many nice restaurants (although I only tried the coffee shop). Their lineup is getting better too: Lucille's BBQ is (Now Open).
Great food court including Capriotti's, Fatburger, Rubio's, etc. This is a nice alternative to room service for a solo guest like me.
Graveyard specials in coffee shop, e.g $5.99 Steak and Eggs

It seems to be tough to get a good room deal here. My casino rate was $80 + $25 resort fee for Sun/Mon. I did get one night picked up in the end but I could have stayed lots of places for free
those nights. I was trying to get on Station's radar but we'll see how that works out...
Overall, I did not find the staff very friendly. M wins this in a landslide.
Long walk from hotel elevators to most parts of casino (like the sportsbook which is a lot of people's starting point).
Flat panel TVs without HD signal? Really? Perhaps they could invest some of my $28 resort fee in that...
Casino host situation is a nightmare. No hosts physically on site as far as I can tell but I was told they will send one over if you need a face to face. No late night or early morning coverage even by phone.
Casino was very smoky even in the afternoon. They do have a small non-smoking slots section.
All staff were wearing tacky T-shirts promoting Station's new on-line poker site

 

I've only seen good deals on Red Rock on Hotwire. You can never book a room cheap directly. BUT, that being said, it's a REALLY nice place. It's kinda like I can stay on the strip, somewhere really nice for $150 a night, what makes you so special?

 

Loose slots and a great buffet at the M are each nothing, but a distant memory as the machines were significantly tightened up, they offer comps like they are in the middle of the strip rather than being as far south as the RR is north and the buffet has been average and overpriced for a couple years. The rooms are very nice and they have some good restaurant choices, but you pretty much have to have a car. We typically stay at SouthPoint and make a trip up to the M. Red Rocks isolated location is a dealbreaker for us.

 

Both are good. Though, for a solo female, I would suggest the M Resort. Though, if you are an out going person, the Red Rock is a good place since you can go out at night and enjoy the city.

 

Both are good. You are locked in at each casino on the gambling part. Too far to another casino. (although we always go to other casinos). From Tropicana at The Strip to R R, about 12 miles. From same to M is almost 11 miles. But the M is freeway miles. R R is much better as they have a movie theater, food court, shopping across the street, new shops going to open this fall next door. Stayed about 7 times at each hotel. Had better luck gambling at R R last several years. Both are nice clean properties; casino and hotel.

 

3 months ago, the RR got a new VP of player development. Since then, the machines are tighter than tight, and the comps are few and far between. The regular locals are being treated like crap and the out of towners are getting better perks. We used to play there quite a bit, but now we have taken our play to a different locals place that is paying much better. Even the slot attendants at RR complain about the slots being too tight and the mgmt doesn't care. The slot attendants are told "if the locals don't like it, they don't have to come back"

 

For some odd reason when I hit the M I just go down LVB and actually like the drive. Isn't too bad time wise.

 

Care to let us in on the better paying locals place?

 

I happen to think M caters more to locals than RR, but maybe 3cats is on to something..........

I like M for a night or two, here and there. Very comfortable for solo stays. 2 nites comps/buffets and alittle fp.

Will be there Sat. nite before checking in Pal grazie gifts.

Like M fine for out of towners.

 

Or just head down the parkway a few miles to Green Valley Ranch, which is situated in the midst of every shopping center and restaurant you can imagine. It's maybe 10 minutes away.

 

We were there in February and had our best luck there, even more so than downtown.

We use to stay at the M all the time (3 to 4 times a year). We like the staff and always had a good time. Actually, we make a day trip out there for the buffet and to say hello to whoever is still there.

Rooms were great. When we would get a higher strip view, my wife would like to soak in the tub and look out over the strip as the sun sets.

The problem is we never really won there. In the beginning the slots and VP gave enough to keep you interested but the last year or so the machines seem a lot tighter. Staff says its since Penn Gaming took over but who knows. Also, our host could comp us on less and less as time went on. Last time we stayed there I lost $3500 and he couldn't / wouldn't pick up any of the room charges.

Since then weve been staying CET properties, usually get upgraded to a suite with a lot of room charges picked up.

Still we love going to the M and talk about spending a night there sometime.
