    My Trip Report

A brief bit of background. I have been to Vegas well over 50 times. About three months ago, my youngest daughter (32) planned a trip to Vegas with a visitor (22) from Germany. I was in Vegas in March and came home with most of my budget, so when my daughter asked if I would go with them, I jumped at the opportunity.

I knew I would become somewhat of a tour guide, but it had been so long since I performed as one, I really didn't mind.

Let me tell you, this was one fun trip, so different from my past 20 or so.

    Getting there and around:

They went out on 5/27, I went out on 5/28. They booked one night in Monte Carlo, because I had received an offer from MC for two nights, which worked for their next two nights. I did not stay in that room, but instead used offers from Silverton and Gold Coast for my four nights. I rented a car from Thrifty with the well publicized posting here of $12 per day for a mid sized car. As usual, the flights and car rental proceeded as expected. I arrived around 9:30 am. Being a Thrifty Blue Chip member allowed me to go right to the parking place for my car, and out of the rental center.

    Hotels:

I drove the the Siverton to check myself into the comped room. Room was ready as usual, and I was on my way to the MC to check into a comped room for them. They wanted a pool view and the clerk accomdated us. They were more than happy to hang around the pool for a while while dad went to play slots and look for good BJ games. In March MC had plenty of 3:2 BJ at the $10 level mid week. On a Wednesday this trip, all games were 6:5. I will NOT play those, nor will i play with auto shufflers. So slots it was.

Played for a few hours at about even.

Wednesday, May 28:The girls found me and I wanted to follow my plan to show them around. We had plans to eat at the Mirage buffet compliments of MyVegas, then hang there to see the first volcano show at 8 pm. So we drove to the Mirage where I redeemed the passes, then walked to Caesars so they could go through the forum shops. They loved that. While my daughter tried on several over priced rings at Tiffany's, etc, I just hung around in the mall halls. Know what? I didn't mind not gambling at all. It was actually refreshing.

After our journey through the shops, we exited Caesars and had a cocktail in one of the outside bars, just to watch people. That was something I've neglected on too many recent trips. We laughed and had a great time. Funny thing.........our table was approached often, by young men inviting all of us to the various clubs around town. I'm not sure that would have happened to a 66 year old guy alone, but with two young, attractive women at the table, who would have guessed. LOL

We walked back to the Mirage and had dinner in Cravings. I've gotta tell you, I'm not a big fan of buffet's, but this was excellent. We all enjoyed it thoroughly. We then went outside to watch the volcano, and it was a fun thing to see again, and to see the expressions on the faces of two unsuspecting women.

We got our car from valet and drove downtown. I wanted them to experience what it's like in old Vegas, and see the street performers. We valeted at the Nugget and walked up and down Fremont. They wanted pictures with Kiss, Tonto, and a few others. I won't post those because my wife would be upset with my daughter for volunteering. We never even went into a casino downtown. Watched some kids dancing to one of the bands after seeing the Fremont Street Lightshow. We had a great time just hanging around.

I drove back up LVB so they could see the lights, dropped them at their hotel and went back to the Silverton. I played various slots again and some good rules BJ, winning a couple hundred. But in bed before midnight because I had a 7:30 am tee time at Tuscany on Thursday.

    More to follow..........

    Day 2, Thursday, May 29

Unable to easily adjust to two time zone changes, I was up early. Good thing because I had an early tee time this morning. The girls were going to do pool time until this afternoon. If you're not into golf, skip the next paragraph, otherwise, you'll get a kick out of this.

I had played Tuscany a dozen times or so. It's just east of Boulder Highway near the exit of the 215 bypass. I arrived a half hour early to warm up. When I arrived they rushed me to the first tee because of a cancellation in a group. Paired up with some very nice guys. However, my cart driver pulled up to the white tees, my norm, and the driver of our other cart stopped at the back tees. My driver asks if they're playing from the tips. They responded affirmatively, so my guy says I'll join you. Well, I can't play up here alone, so I'll join you too. I expect to shoot about 90 on this course. From the tips.........maybe 96. I shot a smooth 52 on the front nine, and was not pleased. On the back, some magic happened, somehow. I shot par, par, birdie, bogie, birdie, birdie, bogie, bogie, par.........for an even par 36. I was thrilled.

We were done by 11 so I drove back to the Silverton to change because it was about 100 degrees. I played BJ one on one for a while and got crazy hot. I drew to three consecutive 21's from 15's or 16's against a dealer 20. I was on fire until three women sat to join in. They didn't offer to wait out the shoe, and I immediately cooled down and left up $350. Trying to chase down my first royal flush (unlike our outstanding contributor RF), I put most of that back into uneventful VP.

I picked the girls up about 1:30. They wanted to visit the wax museum Madame Tussaud at the Flamingo, or so we thought. I parked in the Flamingo valet, which is waaaaaaaaaaay in the back. We asked for directions and were told it was in the Venetian. We walked all the way down there in 105 degree heat. Upon arrival, finally, we saw the price was $30. $30 to see a bunch of wax figures? Not sure I'd pay $30 to see the real thing, whoever they are. After all, they can't perform very well in this heat.

We walked back to our car and drove out to Henderson to enjoy a wonderful BBQ at the home of my BIL & SIL. It was a great evening, enjoying their company and catching up with them, their kids and grandkids. I had obtained the MC reward on MyVegas for $100 bar tab at the dueling piano's in The Pub. We got there about nine, the starting time. I've seen the dueling piano's at NYNY several times, and the crowd really gets into it, causing a fantastic atmosphere and alot of fun. Well, this was a bust. I'm not so sure obsure country songs, or poorly performed Elton John songs are the best way to get the crowd going. We had two rounds of drinks for $52, added the tab of the next table to my tab, and left.

I returned to the Silverton, the kids went to Bellagio, via tram, to see the fountains. It was there last night. I lost a couple hundred at various slots and BJ.

Day three and four to follow..............thanks for your comments

    Day three, Friday, May 30

The kids had to go home on Friday and it was my moving day. I checked out at the Silverton, gotta love the comped rooms with NO resort fees. Well, there shouldn't be a resort fee, I guess, this is certainly a decent "motel", but not a "resort" by any means. I drove down to the Gold Coast to check in early. I've never stayed here before, and probably won't again, but it was a comp offer with some free play, so I took it. By having a car, where I stay is not a real big deal, since I don't drink much and know my way around town pretty well.

I played some BJ there. Nice rules with double deck, surrender, and a friendly crew. The kids called so I could get them out to the airport. My daughter spent a total of $3 in one slot machine. She did charge some incidentals, but had a total of $40 cash on her to start the trip, and it lasted the entire time. In all, they had a blast in Vegas, and thanked me for being chauffer and tour guide. I bid farewell and headed back to the Gold Coast.

Played some slots and lost. Played some VP and lost. I decided to hang there and the Palms because the strip would be busy for the weekend. I couldn't get anything going gambling wise. I headed across the stree to the Palms and lost in every machine I played. Decided I'd stay at a BJ table the rest of the night in the GC.

After several hours, I cashed out -$70, and tired.

    Day 4 Saturday, May 31:

My last day. I played more BJ at GC and was $25 ahead after a few hours. There was a fun dealer, me at third base and a new player at first base. I placed $20 in the circle and told the dealer I'd play two more hands and leave. I won the first hand, and parlayed the bet, placing the last $5 chip for the dealer. I've never seen this before but here's what happened. He totally skipped first base when dealing the cards, and I ended up with 20. First base said, hey, what about me? The dealer had a 7 showing. He hemmed and hawed, telling first base he was sorry, but he'd have to call the pit over if first base wanted him to. First base agreed to waive it off. The dealer had 17 and we both won. I left as promised.

I had a different BIL and SIL coming into town today, staying at the MGM. They called when they arrived, and I checked out ($0), and drove to the MGM to meet up and play there till I had to leave about 3 pm. We all caught up and I won a small amount playing various slots with them.

I left about 3 pm for my 4:30 uneventful flight. Overall, as I explained it was a very fun, but different trip for me. I spent about $500 in all, but enjoyed my time with the kids and other relatives. However, I think my next trip, probably in spring, will be back to normal, golf, gambling and some decent meals.

Thanks to MyVegas once again for the freebies. I realize this won't appeal to everyone, but it was unique enough to me that I wanted to share it with some who may consider a similar trip.

Really enjoyed your report! Thanks for posting. It's nice you were there to give advice and show the girls around. Bet they will want a return trip soon. :)

Too bad the girls didn't look online for Madame Tussauds, there are always discounts. Goldstar carries the Adult tickets for $17.95 and the magazines in the rooms usually have $10 off coupons. Did the girls get to any clubs?
