    Hello,

If you had your choice between staying at The California or Four Queens, where would you stay and why? Also, assume they are the same price per night. Any opinions and thoughts are GREATLY appreciated!

Some friends of mine always stay at the Four Queens when they come out to Vegas, and they really like the place.

The location is great, they like the rooms, and say that it is excellent value for money.

One guy actually spends several weeks there every summer with his wife, so I'm under the impression it must be pretty decent for her to be happy with that arrangement :)

Cal rooms are better and quieter.

    FQ has better location.

If I have to choose, it's the Cal.

Glad someone asked this. I had a $25 Expedia hotel credit so I booked a night at the Four Queens this coming October. Not looking for super fancy, I just want a place to crash after partying downtown rather than taking a bus or cab back to the strip in the wee hours.

I've never stayed at The Cali, but you have to love the location of 4Queens. Right in the middle of everything. And, the rooms aren't too bad.

4 Queens for location. Fremont also has great location. MSS has better rooms than all of them but lousy location. Can't go wrong withe Cal either!

I wouldn't consider any casino downtown to be in a lousy location. You can walk from one end to the other in 5-10 minutes. I would just look at room quality.

I've stayed at both. Cal rooms are a bit larger and had a fridge, which is nice. The food options at the Cal are very good. The snack bar has some great quick food. The skybridge to MSS is nice if you like playing or eating there. Valet was very good also.

The 4Qs has as good of a location as you'll find DT. Rooms are smaller, but ok for a single a couple. A two queen room might get a bit crowded for two singles. Not as many food options, but they are good. Valet is ok, but make sure you have your parking pass. Also you drop off on a side st and pick up in the garage.

Both had decent VP when I stayed at each, but I can't say at this point. If I had to choose I would pick the 4Qs. It's in the middle of everything and very convenient. Understand that I usually travel solo, so room size is not a concern. I don't think you'd go wrong with either.

    Good Luck!

I've never stayed at either but I much prefer the California. We always run into fun Hawaiians at the Cali and have a great time.

Does the Four Queens have Free Self Parking for Hotel Guests?

Yes, we always self-park at 4Q. I've never stayed at the Cal, but have stayed twice at 4Q. it's right in the middle of the action. We'll be there again next week.

I like both places. 4Q for location, but the Cal has its advantages. It's quieter at night if you want that (I know most don't come to Vegas to sleep but...). I like the easy access to Main Street Station across the indoor bridge. Oxtail Soup is a must for late night dining inside the Cal. The shopping corridor between MSS and the Cal is nice, too. Just all very quiet so depending on what you're looking for, this could be the place. Both are good values.

Someone mentioned the Fremont and that's also worth considering. Fast access to FSE.

I stayed at the Cal last time in Jan 2014 and here were some of my impressions (and photos) at the time:

I've never stayed at 4 Queens. My impression I that parking might not be convenient. Not really sure about that.
California is OK but I like Main Street better. Cal had no coffee in room and elevators were always crowded.

Parking at 4Q is very easy. The bottom part of the garage is reserved for valet so you have to drive up a bit. Not as bad as El Cortez though. Can't add much regarding the Cal. MSS is our normal home.

How much is it to park at the 4q? I remember when I checked in a few years ago that they charged hotel guests to park. How about for regular customers, can they validate and park there for free? Just curious, with the other hotels now starting to charge for parking or requiring play (or eat at their restaurants) it's hard to find free (validated) parking downtown. I'm not including the valets since I never valet downtown.

It is free for hotel guests. They give you a pass for your dash that is valid while you are there. You still have to get a ticket when you enter but when you leave you give it to the attendant along with your pass and they waive the charge. I'm not sure how it works if you are just gambling. If we go downtown without a room we typically park at the Golden Nugget valet. Parking is free that way. You still need to tip the valet but that is true anytime you valet.

thanks, that is good to know (free for hotel guests). When I stayed there a few years ago the desk person said there was a daily parking charge for guests. I told him that parking should be free for hotel guests

I've never seen the California but can strongly suggest the Four Queens. I stayed there recently, got a great rate of $37/night, the room was exceptionally clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was good.

I've never stayed at the 4 Queens but I play there every chance I get. The location is great and I believe the posters who say that the rooms are fine.

If offered a deal I would stay at the 4 Queens. I've stayed at the Cal countless times, it's my home casino.
