Tell me about the MONTE CARLO POOL

How is the pool on a July weekday afternoon?

Is it over run by kids?

What kind of music do they play?

Can you take your beers in the pool or on the lazy river?

So I am debating between 2 separate rewards from My Vegas and the Picnic by the Pool is one of them. Essentially you get one beer bucket and a burger - anyone know if entry is included?

 

Lets see if I can answer some of our questions. We stayed there a few days last July which was our third stay there. I like Monte Carlo.

#1 - Its crowded to a point but never found it to crowded to enjoy the facilities. We did have to get to the pool early,9-10 to be sure to get a lounger. Was no problem to use the towel trick. Somedays they swiped the room key with a handheld device, other times they did not, just a key flash was enough.

#2 - Thre were kids there, But I can't say that it was overrun with them. I remember thinking that there were too many kids at MB a few Julys' ago, but don't remember thinking that about MC. I am sure that varies with different weeks and what someone considers "overrun".

#3 - there was a stage set up at the head of the wave pool, the deep end. Each afternoon, closer to the end of the week, a DJ would set-up and play your average club/ house type music ,along with a young girl who was acting like the party leader, she had a wireless mike, and would circulate around asking people where they were from, trivia questions and the like, then she would give out beer voucher to those who particapited. It was ok, it was more music then her and she was not too anoying. If you left the wave pool area you couldn't hear much of it.

#4 - I had beer in the pool and nobody told me different.

#5 - We also got the picnic at the pool via My Vegas rewards, last year they offered the bucket of beer as well a choice of the burger or nacho plate. Because we were staying there the entry issue did not come up. I would think that if you had to be a guest in order to redeem the offer, it should state that in the fine print before you committ to spend your points. I remember we downloaded paper work at home, then we were instructed to visit the Mlife desk for validation. They printed out a voucher that we gave to the sever, that was it , no problem. I am guessing that the desk could also give you a pool pass if you wern't staying there, but I can't speak to that point from experience.

I have done the cabana so they were included. I want to say there was a fee otherwise. Food and such are not allowed in the water areas only around them.

Get up early, throw a towel on a lounger and go back to sleep. You've effectively reserved your chair.

Kind of a cruddy practice, but one I will admit to having done at the Flamingo a time or two after not getting a lounger by as early as 9:15.

 

They charge for tubes.

You can have beer/drinks while in the lazy river as long as you are hanging out on the sides. They won't let you be on the river with a drink.

Picnic by the Pool is a helluva value for the amount of LPs. I'd guess its close to a $60 value.

Will be the first to admit that the "pool trick" is less then a honorable thing to do, but I have been to Vegas often enough in the summer to know that it goes on. The true story is that I learned it by watching others do it. In the early years, I too stood around holding towel at 9:30 with noplace to park. It dawned on me during a stay at MC when we had a room overlooking the pool area, a casual glance out the window at "pool opening hour" clued me in. They're easy to spot. One guy, alone, with a arm full of towels. Watch'em there he goes, one chair, two chairs, sometime more. Then back out the gate. Look over there, same thing. And again over that way. I see whats going on here!

In my defense, I have done it but not on a regular basis and never to go back to bed. Maybe just to go get a coffee and a donught, because your not allowed to bring those items into the pool area. Our pool time in Vegas is a major draw of the trip, so pool time starts relativalty early, and having a chair to sit on makes for a better day. If I put the towel out at 9:15, I am sitting on it by 10.

Anyway, thats my story, defense rest. Only included it in the post because the OP asked about the crowd level at MC. Do as you will, as for me,"When in Rome,........."

 

At the Flamingo pool I'm going to remove towels to have a place to sit.

If someone wants to make a big deal of it, I'll make a snide comment but give them their chair.

In essence I'm going to do the reverse towel trick!

 

Few weeks ago, the Monte Carlo Pool Attendant did allow me entrance to take a look around, the area looked nice, not busy at all.
The Lazy River Tubes did require a rental fee, but I don't recall it being over priced.
I saw children and adults.
I decided to use MyVegas LP's for the Picnic at the Pool and looking forward to redeeming it in August.

I stayed at the Flamingo last August.
Can not enter the pool area until it opens. The lineup started about 30 minutes prior to opening.
During the morning hours, the attendants would not allow any more than 1 towel per person.
No one I noticed did the towel trick.
I was told that if the pool attendants notice an unused lounge chair with a towel, they as a courtesy to other guests will remove that towel themselves.
No children at the ( Adult ) Flamingo Pool and the Bloody Mary's were large, great tasting and cost $5.00 until ( I think it was ) 11:00am.

 

Last year in may, MC allowed you to bring in your own tubes. MGM Grand didn't let us bring them in.

I was at the Monte Carlo this past weekend staying for the first time and I was surprised at how nice/large the pool area actually was.

It was packed with people every day Friday thru Monday when I went.

The only issue we had was they were out of towels for a couple of hours on Monday.

They do have a DJ Thursday thru Sunday which is nice; but they crank the volume up so much you have to almost yell to have a conversation.

 

Good to know the pool is nice and large. Is it really that packed all the time? Thinking of going over a weekend in August. Trying to find a nice cheaper hotel with a good pool area.

Strange that the pool is really packed as the few times I have walked through MC on previous trips the Casino was always dead.

 

It was packed on the days I was there. If you got there after 12:00 you would have a hard time finding more than two chairs next to each other. I don't know how it would be other times of the summer though.

I spent time at the casino sometimes in the late afternoon but mostly from 9PM-3AM. It was fairly crowded on every day I was there until about 1AM before you would see it breaking up, especially when all the restaurants and some bars were closed.

Thirded. I've gotten around this "problem" by merely removing said towel to the ground and moving the chair to another location around the pool.

 

Going to Monte Carlo in September, will be there from 12th, how busy is it then and is it still quite hot weather? Is there still pool party/DJ?
