I know we've discussed this at length. Seems like the city saw the same problems we've seen and now are making it a little tougher to buy and drink on Fremont.

I don't see what this changes except driving people in to the casinos to get their drinks for more money.

I guess paid permits are coming for street performers? I'd be shocked if they were banned all together.

The mob would never have allowed the junk on Fremont now. Go out in the desert and throw, Gumby and SpongeBob in a hole.

the street 'performers' are not intrusive...the panhandlers can get lost. I actually had to tell one to * off as he was following an older lady and giving her a hard time because she didnt give him money. Nice impression of Fremont for the visitor no doubt.

I loved the time when the fat lady got up out of her wheelchair, went around to the backpack and retrieved a beer, then sat back down and held up her begging sign.....

I hope they set up stings and arrest anyone who demands a tip, and breaks any law while "performing". The first amendment protects their right to free speech, but once they cross the line and demand compensation for their "performance", they cross the line and subject to restrictions.

I won't shed a tear if they remove the clutter downtown and on the strip.

This was the most interesting part of the story:

There has also been talk that Tamares, which owns Las Vegas Club, wants to turn its hotel tower into residential units.

This is crazy. How can the casinos still sell footballs of beer and yards full of slushy drinks? The only thing this does is let the casinos down there be able to charge higher prices at their bars. I say, only take free drinks and boycott the bars. Go to the gift shops and buy your beers, no fortys though.

Some costume characters are fine, but they should have to be required to get a license. Also, make it so people that want to "entertain" during 7PM to 2AM, have to have a special license that cost a lot more.

These changes dont really mean that much, all those stores can still sell their big beers(just not advertise it), and you can still buy your small liquor bottles in the casino, getting bums off the street is a good thing, as far as the characters go, you cant control how people dress(thank god), you can control begging, or shall we say bothering people.

I think the idea is to keep excessive drinking of underage and homeless down. The city is trying to keep FSE a tourist attraction and not a hangout where youth can just show up to party without patronizing the hotels that pay to keep the place alive. As long as I'm not hassled about bringing down a drink from my room to enjoy on the street I'm totally OK with the crackdowns to make my experience more pleasurable.

It does seem more like a way to ensure the main businesses downtown (the casinos) don't have as much competition.

What stores are we taking about?

I stay downtown for 1 night each trip, and I am a bit confused.

Do I now have to buy my beers at the casino bar?

Are they still going to have those stands with the girls selling drinks in front of the casinos?

The stands/bars outside on the street will still be there which I think are run by the casinos. The current liquor stores that are there will still be there, you just won't see advertising, so you'll still be able to buy beer.

There is a lot of underage drinking. Those footballs and yard drinks don't contain that much alcohol. By the time you put the ice in these are not very strong. Stadiums control their alcohol beverages, so this is a action that hopes to prevent possible riot etc.
