I want, what seems to me, a reasonable request, a cell phone for my mother, who will soon turn 90 years old. She is hard of hearing and nearly blind. I need a phone that is loud, and has large, WELL DEFINED buttons. She has to dial pretty much by feel, so a smooth (smart phone) face, or buttons that are very close together and not raised, aren't going to cut it. Her sight is the biggest issue. She has hearing aids and we can get phones loud enough for her, but she has a lot of trouble dialing correctly because she just can't see well enough. I can't seem to find anything that I think will work well for her. The stores I have gone in don't seem to have anything or even able to get anything. Does anyone know of anything that may work well for her?

Your situation sounds similar to what we went through with my grandmother. For her, it was eyesight (or lack thereof), and fine motor control. We settled on this: http://www.jethroshop.com/
In addition to the large-ish keypad, she had two VERY LARGE speed dial buttons on the face of the phone. One was programmed with my number, and one with my ol' man's number. Since about 90% of all her outgoing calls were to either me or my dad, all she had to do is press a single button and she was golden.
Best of luck with your mom's phone situation!!!!

A1 S8, how about the volume? Can it be made to be quite loud?

Also, would this phone be compatible with ATT?

Consumer Cellular advertises phones that are senior friendly. Sears is their retail partner so you can see what you ate getting upfront.

GeorgeandTheBear, it's an unlocked world phone, so it is good to go on pretty much any carrier. Actually, AT&T is who we were using with the jethro phone. I can't give you a definitive answer on the volume, since neither the phone nor Grandma are around anymore. I will say, however, that I've never encountered a cell phone whose volume couldn't be turned up to "blow-out-your-eardrums" levels.

You might want to ask Macker's mom about which cell phone she uses. I'm told it has HUGE buttons and an incredibly strong and long-lasting VIBRATE MODE.

Apparantly its water proof as well, since it is still working.

Presumably so that she can call someone in case of emergency. I doubt she wants to start using Facebook lol.
