Am I suffering a mid-life crisis and don't even know it? :confused2:

I've never understood the whole "buying a sports car mid-life crisis thing." How is buing a cool ass car you enjoy a crisis?

Unless you also have a girlfriend (or girlfriends) young enough to be your daughter, I'd guess it is not a mid-life crisis thing. It may simply be a Type AAAA stress-relief thing. Buy the car and enjoy it

A friend who used to work for VW got a super deal on a 944 through VW contacts. He never even got license plates, just kept it in his garage and sat in it with a cigar after dinner. He let me take it out one night. I mentioned the lack of plates, and he looked at me like I was an idiot.

So if you're not at that point yet, it isn't a crisis.

Buying a fun car is not necessarily a crisis. Could just be that at this point, you have more disposable income with which you can do fun things! And if a new car is the fun thing you want to do, enjoy

Also, make note that those who accuse you of having a "midlife crisis" for driving a kickass car are usually behind the wheel of the most bland, forgettable, soul-sucking transportation appliances to ever disgrace the road.

 

Once upon a time in a world far far away as a young man I owned several high end automobiles. What I learned from that experience is that I did not need those cars for my self esteem.
All it did was act like a magnet to attract every so called [STRIKE]Friend[/STRIKE]Con-Artist trying to get over on me. That was well over 20 years ago. Now days I live under the radar.

 

We drive a Passat and a Ridgeline. Guess that means we've reached Maslow's pinnacle of self-actualization, then?

I bought a Passat a few years ago, then had a twinge of mid life crisis and bought an Audi S4 Avant. Not as radical as the OP's Porsche, but a station wagon with a bi-turbo V6 and 6 speed manual tranny scoots pretty good. Still have the Passat, though.

Nah. Foolish? Definite possibility or maybe you just like your mechanic, ALOT. A friend bought an 81 or 82 911 a few years back, worst decision since the boat he bought the year before, he ran up over 6Gs in repair bills in 2 years on that old rust bucket. I would say MLC if you were looking at say a new Vette or crotch rocket but an old Porsche that's just saying you and your mechanic are going to know each other well.
