This isn't just in Vegas. Its every where we travel. But this time we got to see first hand the differences. If you are a smoker maybe you'll agree. I believe the absolute crappiest rooms are saved for smoking rooms. Thrift store furniture. Beat to hell carpeting. And just overall BAD decor. I say this because they mistakenly put us on a non smoking room. When we got moved....well.... see above comments. Any other smokers agree that we get the leftovers?

We've been given a smoking room by mistake at Luxor and Venetian. The only difference I could tell was the smoke smell.

When we opted to look into staying at the Orleans we visited the hotel and asked for a room visit so we could compare one to what we were used to at Ballys ... the porter took us to view a non-smoking room (easy to tell at the Orleans as whole floors are either smoking or non-smoking). We subsequently made the move and tbh have never seen any noticeable difference whatsoever between the quality of that room and the smoking rooms we stay in (aside from the obvious rigours of a room that contains people with lighted cigarettes).

I was put in a smoking room once because that was all that was available, the only difference I noticed was the stale cigarette smell.

Only difference I have noticed, is sometimes when a hotel is being remodeled, the unremodeled rooms are smoking, and the new ones are non smoking. That usually happens if they are decreasing the number of non smoking rooms, or going completely non smoking. I have never noticed it in Vegas.

Good luck getting one in the first place...BTW Yes, I agree with you. Just got back and once again...no smoking rooms available. This time Monte Carlo, last year MGM and Mirage the year before that Harrahs....I book a smoking room every trip and can't get one anymore. FWIW...this trip just like Mirage and Harrahs I was told they would send me an ashtray and to go ahead and smoke even though it was a non smoking floor. Now you all know why nonsmokers get pissed off. But as a smoker I am getting pissed off since they only seem to have 2 smoking floors per hotel nowadays. Back to your post...yes, smoking rooms when I am lucky enough to get one are usually the oldest junkiest room in the hotel. I think as they redo the rooms now they make all newer rooms nonsmoking...with so many hotels redoing rooms...no smoking rooms are going to be left.

I've never noticed anything inferior about the smoking rooms I've had at

    Aria
    Caesars Palace
    Mandalay Bay
    MGM Grand
    Palazzo
    Rio
    THEhotel
    Venetian

They all have smoking floors. I stayed at MGM Grand in Feb, and it was a smoking floor and the rooms had been part of the renovation.

I've seen one or two burn marks, that's about it.

I am a hard core smoker that chooses a non smoking room.

Mainly because those are the party rooms that get beat up because you can smoke.

If I feel like a cigarette. It makes more sense to go downstairs into the casino or outside.

and your sure that it was the exact same type of room? When we stayed at GC the deluxe and premier didn't have tons different but the decor was not even close to the same.

Could be that more of the partiers stay in those rooms. There isn't a hotel that i stay at in canada that allows smoking and when i did smoke i never stayed in smoking rooms as i hate the smell in the air and clothes so i smoked out side.

As an ex-smoker, I could see the casinos opting to possibly make their rooms 100% non smoking someday. When I did smoke we wouldn't mind the non-smoking rooms. The only thing was that I would go down to the casino to enjoy a cig and end up playing. So I could see the casinos using that edge and possibly getting people to play simply because they have to journey down to the casino to smoke instead of being able to stay in the room.

Of course - That's just me and my no-will-power degeneracy talking...I imagine that there are folks that could actually figt the temptation and enjoy a non-gambling smoke once and a while.

I always ask for a smoking room on the highest floor. I don't even smoke anymore. I was told many times as a smoker...we give the higher floors to the smokers. Smoke rises... non-smokers are gonna bitch just to bitch. It could be a brand new casino but yet...people will whine about the smoke smell.
Would love to see a smoke free casino open on the strip....How busy do you think that casino would be? I have had people whine to the people next to me OUTSIDE...OMG do you have to smoke?
Let Vegas make a smoke free casino...I won't be whining to get in...but I will bet the non smokers still won't be happy.:Þ
