    Terms like low roller, mid tier etc are thrown around a lot on this board.

    With table players it is harder to define how much they play, but for slot & and VP players, it's fairly easy if you are playing with a card.

    So, anybody want to take a stab at defining a mid-tier player? How much daily coin-in and is the Strip definition different than the downtown definition?

    Just curious. I read BJ players saying they are low rollers, only betting $25 per hand. That's pretty high in my book.

    I've posted on this before, but you really almost need to further dissect the levels (Low Roller, High-Low Roller, Low-Mid Roller, Mid-Roller, High-Mid, etc.).

    This is especially true on the tables. As you stated a green chip player may be high to some, but the limits on tables is so large that the green chip player will feel like a low roller when he's playing next to someone varying their bet from $75-500.

    If you use only yellows at the craps table you're a High Roller.

    for table games I would venture to say:

    Low Roller $1-$10
    High-Low Roller $11-$24
    Low-Mid Roller $25-$49
    Mid-Roller $50-$149
    High-Mid $150-$299
    Low-High $300-$499
    Mid-High $500-$1000
    High roller $1000+

    Everyone's definetion will vary

    IMO, there are high rollers, and then there's everybody else. I play more than some, less than others, but I'm no high roller. Guess that makes me a low roller.

    We are straying from my post. I was asking about machine players and should not have even mentioned the green player at BJ. My bad.

    Slots:

    < $5k coin-in/day = low
    $5k-$25k = lower middle
    $25k-$50k coin-in/day = upper middle
    > $50k coin-in/day = high

    Double these numbers for VP.

    That's fair. I'm a low roller, but on a good day I could put up 700 CET points.

    [STRIKE]As far as tables, to me as I'm a red player.

    Red = low
    Green = lower middle
    Black = upper middle
    purple and above = high roller[/STRIKE]

    sorry joe

    I've just never really cared about categories or in which we reside. Don't get me wrong, I think the Whale Culture is something rather sickeningly fascinating to ponder, but for us, we play what we want to play, say thanks for the comps that come back our way, and enjoy some of what else the town has to offer.

    If someone wants to know where that classifies us, well, get a CPA and become our accountant. :evillaugh

    My take:

    VP:

    < $5k coin-in/day = low
    $5k-$25k = lower middle
    $25k-$50k coin-in/day = upper middle
    > $50k coin-in/day = high

    Halve these numbers for slots.

    Yeah, I may have over estimated a bit. But your numbers sound a little low to me, but maybe that feeling is from reading everyone else on this forum over and over calling themselves "low rollers" and still willing to lose $500/day. :confused2: I have yet to lose $500 in a day in a casino...ever. But I'm a flea, not a "low roller".

    And here you go:

    Slots:
    <$125 coin-in/day = flea

    Double for VP.

    I'm usually a flea unless I'm near a 100% machine.

    As long as there are players risking 10x-100x of what I am, I'm still a low roller. No one at the casino is getting excited when I come to town.

    I do 5k-8k TCs a day, so thats 1500 to 2400 coin-in a day...and I would consider myself a mid roller, thats thats how I will base mine

    <$1,000 coin-in a day --> Low roller (minimum on penny slots a few hours a day)
    $1,001 - $5,000 --> low mid (quarters and dollar slots a few hours a day)
    $5,001 - $15,000 --> mid mid (dollar slots several hours a day, $5 slots a few hours a day)
    $15,001 - $30,000 --> High mid (dollar slots many hours a day, or $5 slots for a several hours a day)
    $30,001 - $50,000 --> Low high ($5 slots many hours a day, $10 slots a several hours a day)
    $50,001 - $100,000 - mid high ($10 slots many hours a day, $25 slots a several hours a day)
    $100,001 - $250,000 --> high high ($25 slots many hours a day, $100 slots a few hours a day)
    $250,001 - $500,000 --> Small Whale ($100 slots several hours a day, $500 slots a few hours a day)
    $500,001 - $1,000,000 --> Orca ($500 slots a several hours a day, $1000 slots a few hours a day)
    $1,000,000+ --> True Whale ($1000 slots more than a few hours a day)

    For me it's really hard to average out what defines the different tiers in terms of coin-in as my mind always wants to think in terms of bankroll.

    I've had $100 get me $100 coin in...and I've had $10 get me $1000 coin in...slots can get pretty crazy.

    I'll give it a shot...

    Low: < $500 coin-in
    Upper Low: $500 - $4,000 coin-in
    Lower Mid: $4,000 - $15,000 coin-in
    Upper Mid: $15,000 - $50,000 coin-in
    Lower High: $50,000 - $150,000 coin-in
    High: $150,000 - ∞ coin-in

    Thoughts?

    People don't describe themselves as detailed as DeMoN did, but I think that's a pretty good breakdown.

    Completely agree. I struggled with the Upper Mid and Lower High as once you take into account that a $1, $5 or $25 slot machine can easily rack up $5,000 - $50,000 coin-in per hour and if someone were to play for 3-4 hours a day it gets pretty crazy.

    A $150,000 coin-in per day, which may seem ridiculous to most of us, isn't really that hard to achieve playing even the lower ($5-$10) of the high-limit room slots.

    On machines it almost breaks down to denom.

    Micro - Min betting Penny machines or sub .25 cent VP
    Low - .25 cent VP, .25 cent Slots (Max bet), .80-1.00 penny machine
    Low-Mid - .50 cent VP, .50 cent slots (MB), 1.20-1.80 penny machine
    Mid - $1 VP, $1 Slots, Max Bet Pennies
    High - $5+ VP, $5+ Slots, .10 cent and up Video Slots with 20+ lines (Pennies x10)

    This is based on the 4-5 hours a day theory. Obviously some of these lines can become blurred with more or less play, but roughly playing these denoms will be in the same ballpark on theo/status/comps.

    To circle back to my first post about tables, what I was alluding to but didn't convey, is that tables have a much much bigger range. While I realize that there are $25, $100, and even $1000 VP/Slot machines, the reality is that you rarely see anyone playing at those levels. I'm sure a big part of that is the tax implications on the inevitable W2G. Therefore the range of "rollers" on machines is a lot smaller. The $5 slot player will put in about 25x more coin in than the .40 cent penny slot player in the same amount of time. However the whale BJ players are going to put at least 1,000x more at risk than the $5 BJ player (insert any table game for BJ).

    To put it another way, playing $100/hand in BJ is probably going to put you in the top 5-10% of BJ players in the casino, playing $5 slots or VP is going to put you in the top 1-2% of machine players. (Again speaking in general, based on 4-5 hours of play)

    stackinchips make a great point about w-2. Can you imagine playing $25 slots? How many $1200 hit would you get? It's be like winning $12 to a .25 player. It would get unrealistic.
