Just been looking at my options to come back after this year, typically it should cost me around $1000 or so for air fare to Vegas. Plus the price of a room, however for two of us to come over with a room at the mgm, it's pricing up a little over $2000.

Is Vegas really so slow in the couple of weeks before Christmas that the prices drop so dramatically? Originally we were looking at coming in January but prices with flights almost add on 30% to the cost!

We are going for NYE week....amazed we have comped rooms! Jumped on it & made reservations before they changed their minds. I've always read that December is pretty slow and rates are good but thought NYE was something we couldn't do. Don't know how I will like it being cold while we are there but thought would experience NYE there once. Have you checked the packages that include a CET hotel? Some friends got a better price at Flamingo or Ballys with air fare than they were quoted for MGM.... Hope you have a great time!!

Is it so slow that things are closed and it'll detract from my enjoyment, or is it just that businesses slow down as there's no one there and I'll be able to see low minimums, and find dinner reservations easier?

The prices in all honesty are all pretty similar. Censors for a Roman Tower room, we are looking at around $1100 per person. I'm sort of locked into the hotel however as it'll be my girlfriends first trip (she's agreed as she knows how much I love it there), so I'm giving her free choice of where we stay. Mgm executive suite/Venetian both rank highly on her list.

Air fare is currently coming in at around $800 each, so what are the chances of us booking a room later in the year for under $600 for 5 nights over a weekend, in a relatively nice room? Or do people think we would be better off just taking the package offered to us, which is currently around $1250pp for the exec suite with air fare for 5 nights including a weekend, similar price for the Bella suite at the venetian too.

I believe that some shows go dark over Christmas and restaurants and bars may have shorter hours. So it would be wise to keep checking up on that if there's a particular show you absolutely must see. But there should still be more than enough to keep you entertained.

Take advantage of the dirt cheap prices, low table mins and short lines!

I can take or leave the shows, and there's enough choice on restaurants that I think I'd be alright!

I thibk December may be the way to go then, I do like the line low table mins and dirt cheap prices :) if Vegas offers me that, who am I to say no?

We've visited the last couple of years right before Christmas and I love it! It is considerably cheaper in terms of rooms, and it's not crazy busy. But, it's still busy enough to not feel like it's dead and boring. Yes some shows are dark, but we didn't really notice any restaurants closed and all the bars were still hopping.

Sounds like those couple of weeks before Xmas is the time to be going then if you're a low roller! Perfect for me :)

Pros and cons to any time of year imo, for us our one mid-December trip didn't suit us very well but most of that was it kinda made Christmas a bit of an anti-climax a week after our return as Vegas took so much adrenaline out of our systems. Sure, the weather was colder but more layers of clothing of an evening took care of that and we don't tend to do the pools anyway. Sure too the atmosphere was nowhere near as lively as we were used to but that was counteracted somewhat by being much more able to get on a particular machine or table whenever we desired.

As you are taking a Vegas virgin with you I would say December is not that bad a time to go as most things will be that much more accessible and less time waiting in lines or crawling down a crowded sidewalk equals more opportunity to do/see more things. Hope she loves it and will want to go back again and again ;)

Ive been in Vegas dec 14th to 19th and loved it.
Can not even call it "slow" or less busy.
Some nights were even busier (in the casinos) than any i ve ever seen before.. And everything is cheaper. I LOVED it

We've been doing the week before and flying home on Christmas, a nice day to travel with less crowds.

Except for some of the shows being dark, I really don't think there is a dramatic difference that you will notice in the crowds. Vegas is still always busy.

You guys have me convinced then, a December trip will be booked!

Now the other question; would I be better off booking as a package, or booking it seperatley and going direct to the hotel (whichever one it'll be)?

ATM the packages are coming in at £1500 for a 5 night stay over a weekend with air fare in MGM King Exec suite. I can get both of us to Vegas on flights for £1000 - so £500 roughly on the room (Incldues the resort fee), this is equal to about $800 or so, so the question is, will there be any discounts or deals do people think that mean I can get a room for under $800 for 5 nights (No comps available etc).

I have to chime in and ALSO recommend a December trip....My Wife's birthday is early Dec so we try to go somewhere each year. With the lack of lines, the decent temps (hoody weather) Vegas is a perfect choice, we have done it at least 3 times!

Booked! Staying at the Aria in a regular room, going to try the $20 of course though. Total price including air for 5 nights was $2237. Delighted

Time to set up my countdown counter!

Have fun! For the past 6 years or so I've been every December. Usually the week right before Christmas and it's my favorite trip during the year.
