This is just a hand playing online that I didn't understand. Nothing to do with vegas but the description of the page says a place to discuss hold em and other types of poker..

    I had Q 6, other guy has Q 8 - both off suited

Flop comes Q A Q plus two inconsequential cards

I'm all in, and he's all in. He wins the hand.

How does his hand QQQA8 beat my QQQA6?

We both have an ace kicker. He had a higher card after that with the 8. But I thought that same hand with same kicker was a tie. Am I wrong?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I can't find any info on google. Thanks

His 8 beats your 6 QQQA6 vs QQQA8. I believe if the cards were QAQJ9, you would have split the pot with QQQAJ.

    Did I win? :)

His 8 beats your 6. You play 5 cards.

Sonya’s example shows that the other two cards were absolutely not inconsequential. :nono:

I hope this isn't overly critical, but if you didn't know that you play 5 cards, I hope you aren't playing for real money...

I'm assuming your new to poker and I hope you aren't playing for money. It's your best 5 card hand, not 4. His 8 beats your 6. However, if a higher car like a jack was on the board you'd have a split pot.

Why are you all in with Q6 off suited?

this might be the wrong board to discuss poker hands, but think about from which lower value hand can you get a call here?

however it's just a play money facebook game...

The Op held Q 6 unsuited and the flop was Q A Q. It is my understanding that he went all in after the flop.

Not sure the value of playing Q6 off at the start...

I find most of my mistakes are made before the flop, then I wind up in trouble because of flops like this...you can't play "what if" as in, "darn I should have stayed, look at that flop!" because in the end you loose any way and you loose more chips/money in the end more frequently with hands like this.

See this hand "free" from the big blind...sure, but you are out kicked by at least 7 other cards in the end (never mind the ones that could have paired "the two inconsequential cards" as you put it), beaten by AA, etc...way too many ways to be beaten to go all in...at least in a cash game...and probably most situations in a tournament...

I would NOT recommend Facebook as a place to practice before sitting down at a real table in LV (if that was your plan)...just my humble opinions, but FWIW, I tend to loose the last few years at hold'em...lost my edge a bit

It's impossible for anyone to really make a judgment on whether the play was good or bad based on the little information we actually have on the hand.

Facebook game with no real chip value. Entertainment at best.

Limp/min raise in with Q6 off, hit and shove. It happens a ton on that game. Most don't care because they have nothing vested ($$$) so why not is the thought process. They can play some other games to get free chips to come back in.

They win, they hoot and howl. They lose, the person who beat them sends them a donkey avatar to show them how dumb the play was.

Very few use any sort of poker sense on that game.

Yes, that it is a play money Facebook poker game played by a lot of people who have no idea what they are doing is why you can't analyze the hand for quality of play: I know my wife plays the Zynga farmer games and a few times to do things in her games they make her go play hands in the poker game (IE: play so many hands of poker so you can get the ____ that you need to build your barn in Famertown)

Yeah I realized the pokerstars fb game isn't really a place to get any real experience playing poker.. but entertainment and good to just learn what hands beat others and very basic info like how the procedure of playing a hand goes.

Way too many people play a pots without thinking.. so you don't really get the experience of playing an opponent. Too much luck involved.
