Something about Vegas is so different than every other place I've ever been to. Part of it is that 95% of everyone you see is on vacation, and is going by what I call the "Snow Rule". Your area may have a different expression, but growing up in big East Coast cities, nobody says anything to you. You can see the same person every single day on a commute and hardly say hello in 5 years. Yet somehow when it snows a few inches and everyone comes out to look at it, everyone is chatty and friendly, hence the "Snow Rule". It's like people let their guard down.

One thing I love to do in Vegas, and I know it's probably not a cool party thing to do, but I love to just wander around in every single nook and cranny that I can. Random casinos, hotels, etc. Then due to the Snow Rule, you're going to end up talking to someone somehow. The people watching is just freaking amazing there. For the most part everyone is friendly and wants to talk. Either about what they won, what they lost, where they are from, etc. Dam I could seriously do that all night, the later in the night the better. :grrr:

I've read all the articles about how Vegas is getting hit hard by online gambling and Reservation gambling. I just can't see how people would not want to go there for the social interaction part of Vegas. Best place in the world for it if you ask me. OK, I'm done pontificating for the night, need to go to YouTube to get my fix of Vegas videos and clips for the night! :wink2:

My June trip coming up is for 7 days so I need to find some fun little places to scout out to see on my upcoming trip.

I agree with this observation. I never thought of the Snow Rule. Thats pretty good. I grew up in the Boston area, and it is true, people do usually keep to themselves. Certainly more than the neighborhoods I've lived in the Midwest.

But I think a lot of the social aspect is also born out of the Buzzed and Excited rule.

My idea of the Snow Rule came from Boston. Maybe it's just a Boston thing!
Yeah that's what I meant by saying most people are on vacation, they are Buzzed and Excited just like you said.

I am generally shy around new people, but have little problem talking to strangers in Vegas.

I have two Indian Casinos within 30 miles of my house and I visit them maybe once every 60-90 days at most. Vegas is special to me for the gambling, the party, the weather, the dining and the people. I think the OP hit it on the head that it's easy to strike up conversation (if you desire) with others who are just as excited to be there as you are. You just don't get that at either of the local casinos here or for sure online.

I agree. I love chatting people up. I can make small talk for hours on end. People do open up more while in Vegas too which is nice. I also like to investigate every stairwell or corridor i come across. i pride myself on my knowledge of where the bathrooms are in just about every casino. I like the convention areas too. All that empty space to wander around in in the middle of expensive real estate like that fascinates me.

I wish they had behind the scenes tours of hotels. i would love to see the places where they prepare the food, do the laundry, store the beer, that sort of stuff. must be a huge operation. i always wondered if they have locker rooms for the workers as they need to wear uniforms. you dont see them at walmart in their cocktail uniforms so they have to change into them someplace so just that alone would be pretty big.

Imagine what the loading docks must be like or the freezers.

I think if we could see the day to day stuff we would appreciate the rest much more.

Ha, the line about 'every stairwell and corridor" cracked me up. I'm the exact same way. If you have any places you recommend for wandering and exploring PM me.
