If you get a couple good offers from different hotels, have you ever booked two places at once so you can get the offers and then cancelled one later on?
I just did this at Cosmo and NYNY. The GF and I were offered 2 nights each at the Cosmo but we needed 5 nights and an additional night was $400 so I called up NYNY where I normally stay and had two comp nights there. Weird thing is that 1 night at NYNY = $140 but 2 nights = comp. Weird. They were to overlap by a day. But since Cosmo changed their tier benefits I have a free night coming to me due to my card status. I need to call NYNY and cancel.
I've also heard some people will actually keep both reservations, the risk being having enough play at each one to cover the comp you just used that it doesn't negatively affect future offers. not sure on this, but also heard if the room key doesn't get used in 24 hours they will send someone to check the room....not sure what the result of that would be....guess it ultimately depends on how much play you gave. As offers can fill up, don't see a problem in reserving them as they come up for your dates though and picking the best one closer to your travel date!
I question the lock thing as it's Vegas.....I'm sure there are some who don't make it back to their own room from partying, so I can't imagine they would spend much manpower on that one myself!
I double book almost every trip...two rooms for the same days on different parts of the strip...never a problem. sometimes, i only end up going into one of the rooms at checkin and once before checkout. I have never had an issue with not using my room key within 24 hours. Why do I double book? So i have a place to crash in one area of the strip when I don't feel like hiking back to the other hotel.
Yes, I'm guilty of both. For my June stay, I am in a terrace suite at the MGM Grand for my first 3 nights. I have Bally's double booked for the 3rd night plus the 4th night, so I can get right into my room at Bally's when I check out of MGM Grand. Now I have the Wynn booked for the 4th night as well. I've never stayed there and they sent me an e-mail offering $139 a night. I will eventually decide for sure.
People do this often. One trip we were in 3 hotels the same night - ha ha! We do tend to overlap the checkout day and checkin day at the 2nd hotel often. We check into new hotel and then decide where we will sleep that night. Of course, you can not do this within the same hotel group.
That is cool- I was only thinking this as I wanted to split my trip into two different hotel stays this time around, and I changed my mind on one place and I don't know if your reservations/cancellations get mixed up in the system and all that (this would be within MLife properties) but it doesn't sound like it.
Please clarify what you are trying to do. You will NOT be able to have two Mlife hotels booked at the same time on any type of comp.
I once stayed solo for several nights at the Golden Nugget, but had to make a side trip to Anaheim for a night in the middle of the trip. I never checked out, left most of my things in the room, and came back a day and a half later. No problem, but it felt really strange going back. As for double booking: I've made reservations at different Boyd/Coast hotels for the same dates a few times, but mainly because I hadn't yet decided where I wanted to stay. I remember having to call on one occasion for some now-forgotten reason, where the reservationist mentioned I was double booked. I simply said I hadn't yet made up my mind and would cancel one of the reservations when I figured things out. No problem! Of course, when traveling with Ms. Gecko, making separate reservations for the same dates is never an issue; and as soon as we know where we'll be staying, we cancel the unneeded reservation. Likewise, we sometimes book additional nights until we know what we're doing. It's always better to have and cancel than risk possibly not being able to get the room. That reminds me, I still don't have four nights covered for our Halloween trip, but won't worry about it for a few more months.
Last month, I was comped at MGM for four nights and stayed there. I also booked 2 nights at Orleans and 2 nights at Gold Coast. Both Boyd properties offered comped rooms and a little freeplya plus match play plus food credit. I never even entered the rooms at the Boyd properties, and there were no issues upon checkout. One thing unusual though, when checking out at the Orleans desk, I was told I was already checked out. Housekeeping must have checked the room and noticed nothing was used. Next month, I booked two nights at Silverton and two nights at Gold Coast, both comped with some extras. In addition, I booked two nights at Monte Carlo, which I'm giving to my daughter and a friend to stay in. As long as the comps keep coming, I'll use them and not worry about giving anyone a specific amount of play. The comps I receive are certainly marketing comps, not from a host.
I did this last month where I was comped three nights at PHO and three nights at MGM. I was double booked for our last night at one and the first night of the other so I wouldn't have to wait for check-in and could take our stuff straight to the room. Glad I did since MGM was crazy busy with March Madness. Mark
I do it practically every trip. For the next trip I've already gotten an offer from TI with a decent amount of freeplay, so I'll book that. CET sent me a little freeplay and food, but the big draw with them (for me) is they give me rooms in NO, so I always stay and play with them when I'm in Vegas. After my recent stay at the Downtown Grand I'm thinking I'll get a decent offer from them and if I do, I'll book it as well. In other words, I may be triple book on my next trip. And I can't wait!
I don't care one way or the other... But how come this thread doesn't have anyone protesting these actions saying something like 'When you double book you are taking away rooms and thus pushing up the rates for others?' I find it interesting that people are upset at a poster for wanting to use a pool that they are Not staying at...but people have no issue if one person uses 2 rooms - or books 2 rooms and only uses 1.
People paid for their duplicate rooms (either via cash or what they earned via their play). People staying at a different hotel without a reciprocal pool agreement (CET, 4Q & Binions, LVC & Plaza, GG & The D, etc.) did not pay for another resort's pool use, and impose on guests who have paid. Some hotels allow players to decline their comped room if you want to claim and offer without staying onsite (Four Queens for instance, which I prefer not to stay at though I like playing there) whereas others require an onsite stay to participate in a tournament or claim free-play. I never claimed two rooms simultaneously, but I understand why people do claim the two rooms they are have earned / are entitled to, which they are required to book based on the casino's particular policy. Casinos believe a captive player will stay and play longer.
