Why does the hotel ask to register all guests staying in the room? Lost cards? Charging privileges?

Does adding name (of the non-comped guest) register a 'day' with mLife and effect ADT?

For lost keys yes. They will only reissue keys to registered guests. It's supposed to be the same for charging privileges. And they simply just want to who is in their hotel. A guest won't have any impact on your comps so that shouldn't deter you.

When i worked in a hotel it was for fire code purposes. We took the registration card file with us if there ever was a fire and therefore could account for guests that were registered.

Also, if somehow they got separated from their party and did not have a key and decided to come back to the hotel to wait for them we could not let them in the room, even if it was their spouse, unless they were on the room registration. Even if we saw them with the person previously, privacy laws would not allow us to give that key. It could have been an abusive partner they were with and they were trying to get away from. It has happened before.

If more than 2 ppl in room though they charge for that extra person.

Though there are other reasons (like the fire thing),the real reason is for getting a key and charging to room.

You do not have to give them anything.

Imagine you rented a room in your house to strangers. would you want to know their names?

I often book a freebie for my brothers. I put their name on the room with mine so they can get another room key if they lost it.

Sometimes I check in the same day we are leaving. If there is a problem, they are a registered guest.

As mentioned, you don't have to do it.

The most important reason is if they can't find their key and need to go to the desk for a new one---if their name is not listed then a new key will not be issued--and if they can't find you they are just stuck

I guess the question for me is why wouldn't you register a guest? Unless you are hiding from someone...

More of a question about ADT - for instance if I decided not to play at all in the casino that day, would they count that as a zero play day if you are a registered guest in the hotel?

But it sounds like mLife play and room stays are not correlated (when it is not my comp).

Basically, if I plan to have one day of zero play, then the second day heavy play, mLife will only show my play for the second day (not a zero day - because I am staying there, but not on my comp this time).

I just emailed my host about this the other day. I have full RFB and usually travel solo. This time around around a friend is coming along so I asked if they should get there own players card or play under mine.
She said that either is ok but recommends he get his own as his betting could ruin my avg bet size. She also said his comps earned can be used against anything charged to the room over and above what I'm not comped on.

Thanks touché - this is what I expected. At least my comps can be used to help pay for resort fees and food charges (since his comp on the room).
