Mirage vs. Paris vs. Venetian (for $65/night more)

I apologize in advance because I looked and I couldn't find a thread, although I'm sure one exists.

I have a stay booked at Bally's but I had to change the dates and it turned from a guy's trip to a wife trip. I'm normally a CET guy but frankly the prices for the weekend under my Total Rewards, which were pretty low a few weeks ago when I started looking and originally booked Bally's, are not any better than just doing a simple Kayak search for April 10-14 (a Thursday-Monday).

So, if I'm just booking through each website I can get Paris and Mirage for an almost identical price, around $130/night for the 4 nights, which considering it's on the weekend I feel is pretty reasonable. We can't be too much further South than Paris/PH due to the Mrs having a conference at the Venetian, though she doesn't mind a 15-20 minute walk each morning. Would it be worth an extra $65 for the Venetian? I'm guessing not but I've never seen the rooms there.

So given, all of this, what would you do?

We are early 30s, I gamble but the Mrs doesn't (she might enjoy a pool though). We will eat a nice dinner every night somewhere around center strip usually (Have reservations for Joe's Stone Crab and Gordon Ramsay already). Really we just like to wander around the strip and get into adventures. Will do most of my gambling at CET properties.

I've stayed at both but it's been at least 5 trips ago. I remember I liked the Mirage rooms (and I've heard the pool is good too) but was underwhelmed by the dining on site. With Paris, I felt like the eats were great (and that was even before Gordon Ramsay) but the room was nothing too special.

Just looking for some insight and get some different perspectives. Thanks for your help.

 

For $65, it's a no brainer, the Venetian is steps above those the Mirage/Paris!

Hmmmm, not a no brainer, but the Venetian is class above the Mirage and Paris.....like anything else it simply depends how much time you spend in the hotel room etc. For me, I can drop 260 in about 10 mins in Vegas, so I would splurge on a nicer hotel room without a doubt

 

Venetian is really wonderful! If that amount won't put you out too much. I'd go for it. The rooms are really big, and nice bathrooms. I stayed there in November, and we thought it was wonderful. Very impressed. It had been a few years, but it's still a great property, and they've done some upgrades in the casino. Also it'll be much easier for your wife.

Venetian is worth $65 more dollars a night. But, the other properties are good too. So really, it's up to you.

I stayed at Paris in December in a view Red Room, and it was just ok. The view was the best I've ever had. But the room itself wasn't fancy, I was pretty meh on it. Never stayed at Mirage.

I agree with The Equalizer: Venetian > Mirage > Paris. Though, even Paris is a decent property.

I would also say that Venetian (Palazzo, even more so...and you can almost always get it for the same price) is worth the extra money. But everyone has their own priorities, and I would certainly understand someone wanting to spend that money elsewhere.

Considering your wife will be spending a lot of time at Venetian, I'd probably eliminate Paris if I were you.

 

By itself, $65 a night more for Venetian or Palazzo might not seem worth it.

But chances are, your wife will like it a lot better than any of the other 3. The bathrooms are much better and the rooms feel very spacious. And obviously, easier for her to get to her conference. I think she'll appreciate it.

 

Never stayed at Mirage, but did stay at Paris and Venetian has it all over Paris. Nicer rooms, nice selection of restaurants, and gambling is about the same unless you play VP. Not as many machines as other Strip properties. If the extra $$'s won't hinder you, I'd go with Venetian all the way.

I also agree that if you can afford $65 a night go Venetian. Venetian location is not as good as Paris but you are close to Wynncore and that s nice

Also, if you can get the same amount for Palazzo, then go Palazzo.

 

If your wife likes the pool, then I would eliminate Paris altogether, especially considering that her conference is at the Venetian.

Both Venetian and Mirage have great pools. My wife and I are your age. We would choose Mirage, as I don't particularly like gambling at the Venetian. However, you can't go wrong with either one. Venetian has much bigger room than Mirage and double vanities (which the Mirage entry level room does not).

 

I've never really enjoyed gambling at the Venetian, either. If I stay at Mirage I will probably do most of my sports bets there and craps at Harrah's and walks down to Paris/Planet Hollywood in the evenings.

Are there any good lunch spots in the Mirage or Harrah's? How's the burger place in Mirage? That Chipotle right over there has been a lifesaver a few times after long nights...

 

The burger place at Mirage is pretty decent. They also have the Carnegie Deli which has absolutely gigantic sandwiches. As you know, there is the McDonalds/Chioptle/Chinese food court right across the street at Harrah's. Mirage also has a California Pizza Kitchen for cheap eats.

If you like the sportsbook, Mirage overhauled their screens a year ago and they are fantastic. The Venetian sportsbook is cool also. However, they never give free drink tickets, which really rubs me the wrong way.

 

If you wife is walking daily, scrap the idea of staying at Paris. Obviously its a much shorter walk from the Mirage to Venetian. The mirage bathrooms are way too small if you are paying for a room. The Venetian rooms are 3 times as big as the Mirage. Your other option is the Palazzo tied to the Venetian.
as for pools, the Mirage tends to be crowded but staying at the V or Palazzo has about 8 pools to choose from.

 

how important is a nice room to you and your wife?
And how long will you actually be in that room?

If you plan on spending some time in the room and $$$$ is no object, Venetian all the way. You'll be spending about $400+ more to stay there ($65, +$25 resort fees, taxes). The rooms are nice with a sunken living room. Venetian has one of the largest standard rooms in Vegas (650 sq ft).

If you don't care about the room, I'd go with the Mirage as it's close to the Venetian and pool is one of the best in Vegas.

I'm personally not a fan of the Paris rooms.

For me the room isn't that important and I won't be there long (hence when I thought I was going with a buddy we were going to do Bally's, ha). Money isn't really an object as the Mrs is getting room and airfare paid (albeit with a cap), but if we don't spend it all on the room we can use to expense her dinners and whatnot. Basically she gets an annual budget for conferences and has a certain amount left for this one, anything over will be out of pocket.

Still, money isn't that big of a deal. Paris is out, it's basically between Venetian and Mirage at this point and I don't really think we can go wrong. I prefer the Mirage probably, saving the money for maybe one more nice dinner, because I've never really liked the Venetian (although I've never stayed and I know the rooms are nice, just don't really like the casino much, seems dead/lots of convention folks). But I suppose it's a good problem to have.

 

Being able to "easily" walk from convention center to room has a "priceless" value. As much as I dislike V/P for how they treat players, I would still stay there in your situation.

 

I too would go for the Venetian. Dining there is ridiculously good. I've been to Caneletto a couple times, which is good Italian fare for about $30 pp. I've also been to Canolito's (sp?), good Mexican food as well, but don't remember the prices. And of course Carnevino offers some awesome steak.

You asked about Mirage's BLT Burgers. It's definitely one of my favorites there, but I'm a bigger fan of KGB at Harrah's. They have an outstanding lamb burger and its just a bit cheaper than BLT.

 

Bumping this as we ended up with Palazzo on a priceline deal. Very excited to stay there.

Has anyone ever been successful getting the concierge level for a reduced upgrade or even a $20-$40 trick? I didn't really see much in that forum.
