Should my dad get a host?

My dad and I go to Vegas about once a year. He exclusively stays at Bellagio and charges everything to the room for our 3 day trips. He also only plays $5, WOF 3 credits. I have no idea what his coin in is but it's definitely upward of $5,000 a day. I keep telling him he should play at a lower casino for better comps etc. but he does get all his room charges comped off at the end of our stay, about $600 or so. So I was wondering, should he try to get a host or try a different property, or neither? I know it doesn't really matter but he is Mlife Platinum.

 

$5000 coin in at $15 a spin isn't even an hours worth of play. But $600 of for three days sounds about right.

 

I think a host could probably be beneficial at your father’s level of play (which, BTW, is probably much more than $5000/day if he’s playing $5 slots).

But I don’t see any reason for him to switch properties if he’s happy at Bellagio. Sure, a less expensive place is going to give him better comps and more individual attention. But the trade-off is…it isn’t going to be Bellagio – it’s going to be a less expensive place. Your dad seems to prefer being at a nicer property. And if he can afford to play $5 slots, I don’t think he’s sweating the fact that Casino X would give him an extra $100 in comps or kiss his ass a bit more.

 

It might be more, I honestly have no idea. We don't discuss finances. He usually plays for about 2 hours. He's the type of person that keeps hitting the button while its still counting up the credits.

 

Yeah I get what you mean, I have been trying to get him to give cosmo a try, but he has a picture of Vegas that is Bellagio. It's definitely possible that it is more than $5000 a day. All I know is he plays about a 2 hour straight session per day.

 

Next time you go, find a host and ask "What is our coin-in and ADT, please?"

At $15 per spin, your coin in should far exceed $5000 ($15 per x 333 spins equals $5K) and if you go with the 8-10 spins per minute average, that's less than an hour of play (if we go with 9 spins a minute, that's 333 spins divided by 9 spins per minute = 37 minutes

and a "coin in" of $5000 means his out of pocket can be anywhere between $500 (good day) to $2500 (bad day)

I think you'll be surprised how low his ADT likely really is.

So, back to your original question, and without knowing his ADT, I'd say likely not, especially at Bellagio

 

When your dad goes to talk to the Host on duty about back-end comping the room charges, a quick way to tell if the Host wants your action is if he/she voluntarily hands you their card and tells you to contact them in the future to arrange your trip. If they don't offer their card, there is no harm in reaching out to one. Worst case is things continue as they have and your dad just has to go on the assumption that he will be able to get back-end comps...which seems to work out well for him anyways.
