For the first time ever I am using a host a getting 3 nights comped at MGM, my question is are you suppose to tip your host and if you are what exactly would be the proper tip.

Also if I wanted show tickets to other MLife properties, do I go through my MGM host or just call MLife, im assuming I would get discounted shows for Platinum card.

I don't think card color has any discounts for shows. At least Gold doesn't help me. A host could charge them to your room and then comp them on the backend if your play warrants it. Though if you find a coupon code or cheap tickets through the Tix4Tonight both it might just be easier to do that.

Tipping is a personal preference. If you feel you should tip for the hosts' services, it will be appreciated. I don't think you'll get more than you deserve, but at least the host will think kindly of you. Use discretion when giving a tip. Hosts technically aren't supposed to accept cash tips directly. However, if you put it in a small thank you card and envelope and hand it to them, it's all good. If you stand in front of the players club and peel off a hundy, it's probably going to have to be rejected. Personally I tip with gift cards.

You can get an MLife discount on house shows, however, YMMV when it comes to getting your tickets. I got great seats at a great price to Ka by calling the box office, but when I went to do the same for Love, they told me to call the MLife desk. The MLife desk then told me to call my host. My host said there was no discount but she'd comp them up front. So now I just go to my host and she comps them.

Tipping, while not required, some consider good etiquette. I believe it depends on your relationship with the host and how much the host does for you.

I tip my host when in Vegas, usually $100, in an envelope. She has always taken care of me, but I think I get more now after I started tipping than I did before (which makes sense). I get almost anything I want now and everything I charge to my room removed from my tab.

As for MGM, they work on a different system than CET.

MGM has their system set up where a host works FOR that property, not all.
CET hosts can set you up across all properties, MGM's don't work that way.
An MGM host can't set you up at NYNY across the street, you have to find a host there or go through Mlife. I think that's stupid, making your player's fend for themselves and have all these different hosts within the Mlife system, making it hard to build any relationships or loyalty, especially if you want to try the waters at a different property on each trip.

Being a Vegas regular for about twenty years now, two to three trips a year from Michigan I have been tipping our host(s) regularly. Starting with the Flamingo I learned that our host there preferred to have tips sent to her home. At Palace Station we just sent them to the property in her name. At South Point I send a Super Certificate that she can convert to any gift card she wants from Gift Certificates dot com.

The amount depends on the service we receive. We love South Point but I can tell you without our host there we would not be the regulars we have become, so she does receive some very nice tips.

I always ask the new host if he/she would prefer that tips be sent to the property or their home.

My host at Aria comped many concert tickets at MGM and Cirque shows at several properties.
I have been tipping for a few years by sending gift cards to the host's home.
He has done a great job and I want to express my appreciation.

Unfortunately, he just left so I will be starting over with a new host at Aria.
I hope I get lucky again.

mgm what play is need to comp out concert tickets

    from a mgm host

Usually, 4 hours per day with average bets over $200 on Blackjack is a good start for a concert. If you’re a craps player, you would probably need to double that average.

i find this to be really high.just cheaper to buy them. but i figured i would share this info.

Is it really high? Guess it depends on the concert or event? This is only $200 a day in comps.

I have only asked for a few tickets in the past to MGM events and was always given them. I never asked the price. I know the Ka tickets I got comped once were approximately $120 each. I assumed the event tickets were more, but don't know for certain.

It is a personal preference as others have said. There are some people I know who give their hosts thousands of dollars after winning trips.

But I don't tip my hosts at all. I have brought small gifts for them when they've invited me for holiday parties. I have had hosts invite me to their weddings and other personal events but I do not go, sometimes I send a gift. But I do not tip them on normal trips and I prefer to avoid seeing or talking to them unless I need something.

Ouch! That's basically like saying "Don't play craps, we hate comping it!"
If you're playing a $400 average at craps...I'd qualify you as a High Roller!

You have to remember that odds is an even money bet, and therefore not counted when calculating your average bet. You have to be very clear when talking about average bet. For example, if you always bet $50 on the pass line and then follow that up with 3x odds of $150... you have $200 on the table, but would be rated at an average bet of $50.

The one thing I can tell you is that 4 hours @ an average bet of $200 in craps - as calculated by the casino - will generate MORE theo than the same time & average bet on blackjack.

This is exactly right. Not sure why the prior post indicated you would need to bet more at craps to generate the same level of comps as compared to blackjack. Craps generates more theo at the same betting level when compared to BJ.

i copied and pasted the hosts direct info about what they wanted and it made no sense to me either. as i said im skipping mgm and sticking with aria as my host has alot off lewway there,

im sure my recent play will generate some corparate offers for free tickets so i can remove the host situation at mgm and not care

MGM used to be my home casino.
It does not seem to make sense but I actually get more in comps at Aria than at MGM for the same play.
