We have been to Vegas numerous times staying at Luxor, MGM Grand the the Excalibur. We are planning a trip for the end of April..a thursday and Friday night. We were looking to spend more on food drinks and fun then rooms.

its probably crazy but has anyone stayed at the Motel 6 near the MGM Grand. Its only 124.00 total for Thurs and Friday night the end of the month.

Am I being crazy for not wanting to drop 250-500 for a room for 2 months?

I don't think you are crazy

it all depends on what you want in a room and how much time you spend there

I am thinking about staying a few nights at the super 8 at ellis island

    We stayed there years ago.

We heard every plane and every neighbour. The rooms were very clairaudient.

Tell me where I can get a room for 250 for two months, and I wouldn't want it, either.

I suspect you'll find a variety of budget-minded folks like yourselves staying at that Motel 6. Not crazy at all.

Just out of curiosity have you checked the rates at some of the strip properties? I can get a Thurs- Fri almost anywhere on strip and off for that kind of money, hell I have a pile of offers for free rooms in April. If I could give you one I would.

One thing seems to be confusing. I think you are talking about two nights, but the last sentence says two months.
    *****************************

I'm very frugal. However, I heard that this place attracts working girls and they can be a bit noisy at times.
Do you need to be in that location?
The Super 8 at Koval near Ellis Island should be about the same price and come with a free shuttle to and from the airport, free wifi, coin laundry, coffee in the room and in the lobby, a heated 24/7 pool, and Ellis Island right next door for good and inexpensive meals.
It is a bit of a walk to the strip, but the 202 city bus will get you there from the corner and the Boyd shuttle that drops at the back of Bally's, almost across the street, will get you to the Orleans or the Gold Coast.
    I've stayed there many times.
For April 24-25 I'm seeing rates that compete well with your quote of Motel 6.
There is a free tram from Bellagio to Monte Carlo, so being down at the Flamingo corner does not preclude events at the Tropicana corner. Also, the 201 bus from Orleans runs to that section.
I was interested in that Motel 6 until I met a couple of Canadian men on a bus who were there for most of a month. They were not unhappy because they got a good price and they thought the girls leaning over the balconies and bantering were entertaining. But I thought I'd pass on that amenity.

I am not signed up for any clubs or a huge gambler so the cheapest I can find is the Excalibur for 255.00 for the 24th and 25th of April. That's why I was looking at the motel 6.

Thanks. One other thought. Whenever you split Friday and Saturday nights in Vegas, you have fewer options as many casino hotels don't want to rent Friday unless they also rent Saturday. As you shop, you might find that a problem.

In the left margin here is a site called "Hotels Combined" run your dates through them and see what you get.

I see as low as 192 but when you add the resort fee (*to be added at hotel) like these sites say, im right up to teh 246 ish level.

If you are looking for a good compromise on the cheap, check out the Travelodge which is on the strip just north of the MGM . Just make sure you are looking at the right one as there is one all the way up by Circus Circus too which is not the best location.

I just took a quick look on kayak.... they had both The Quad and Hooters for around $65 a night. Plus tax and resort fees... that will keep u in the range u want to be in. Obviously not the greatest hotels but at least they r on the strip (or really close for hooters).
I'm surprised nobody suggested looking downtown as another option

I'm sure you could get within 50 bucks resort fee and all at the quad. I would pay 25 extra a night not to stay at the motel 6.

    Yes.

Just to let you know I am a low roller but I sign up for the cards because if I don't then they don't know I exist.

Just for example I did 7 nights at TI last July and that trip I was 3K coin in with a $300 loss, low rollin' right?

TI has been absolutely flooding me with comp room FP and F&B offers. The same even more so with CET, same play same offers.

It pays off to get those player cards, as I said I am a low roller but I have rooms at my discretion any time I want them.

Just to be clear I don't do Mlife as I just don't really feel a vibe at any of their properties. My advice to you would be to get a TR card and play CET properties, I would bet you would see some offers pretty quickly.

Not sure what is going on but that is not a good weekend for low rollers. Even Gold Coast is pretty high. I would be inclined to try and stick to casino hotels and Silver Sevens (formerly Terribles) seems to be the most reasonable close to the strip.

I do not think you are crazy, either. From a personal standpoint, I would pay for the better rooms, but I absolutely get why you would want to save the money.

I agree with gpenguins here... I know both Hooters and The Quad have had their share of naysayers on the board, but both have some redeeming values. The Quad will have a renovated casino, access to the Linq, and a primo position on the strip. I know the rooms can be a gamble but for the same price I would stay there vs the Super 8, especially at the Quad.

Kayak is a great quick way to compare rates. I always use vegas.com as a fast spot-check for rates, too. I am a bit surprised that the downtown rates aren't as cheap as usual for April 24 & 25, and you have to get up to ~$140/nt for some of the strip properties. Rates across the board are exceptionally high in my opinion. (Flamingo was really high, for example.) I am not sure if any major events are happening this weekend. I checked the convention calendar but didn't see anything that stands out. Does anyone else have any idea?
