If u play 100 dollar video poker, max bet of 500 bucks. Do u get hand paid on anything over 3 of a kind? Just curious.

That is kinda weird (but probably not) as 1/3 of what you are "winning" is what you put in to play.....so if you win 1500 $.....you only actually "won" 1000 $......wow.....I would shy away....but that isn't a problem at my level anyway.....good question though......

On a $100 Denom machine, you'll probably have a slot tech there with you, so they just turn the key and jot down the "jackpot" and you play on...I watched something similar in Harrahs Lake Tahoe last year (Except he was playing $1 100-play TDB)

That's foolish...you loose 33% to tax - unless you are Canadian as the lottery tax treaty should protect against that.

I think the Canadians get 30% taken off and can file to get it back. I believe it's the Brits and possibly other nationalities who are exempt.

I've never won enough to know

You can offset with losses which should be plenty. That said, the moment casino gambling becomes an ongoing accounting exercise, I'm done with it or rolling back to lower limits.

I don't know.............for me, the aces with kicker on $5 DDB I got at Harrahs Reno this week makes the accounting exercise worthwhile.

Not only will you get a shitload of W-2Gs on a $100 machine, you may not even get a great paytable!

I think I took this at PH last summer....

If your a Canadian you don't have to offset it. You should just file to get it back.

For those that have to try to offset it, the issue is proving how much you actually lost.

The problem with high stakes slot is the w2-g your ass.

I've been a fan of such slots over my last few trips. Winning 15 credits on a $100 pull machine equals a w2-g.

    It's exciting tho...

As a Canadian who works with the Canada-U.S. tax treaty on a weekly basis, I assure you there is no treaty protection on gambling winnings. We get 30% in non-resident withholding tax taken off. We have the option of filing a 1040-NR tax return and apply the same rules as U.S. residents regarding expenses against gambling winnings, but if we win more than we lose after expenses in a calendar year, we won't get the full 30% back.

The plus side is we don't have to report the income on our Canadian tax returns, as gambling winnings are non-taxable in Canada... even for non-residents.

My accountant - wife - has confirmed this. I misunderstood the non taxable as meaning you get to keep it all.

During a Dec trip to rio, we got ahead and decided to try the $100 WOF slot. Didn't hit anything but it was fun trying. Still haven't tried a $100 VP machine

NO - NO - NO - this is not how it works. When playing these higher denomination games (whether it is VP or super high dollar slots) there is a casino employee (usually a slot host) that stands behind you during your session and records the taxable Wins. Then at the conclusion of your session they enter the information and give you 1, combined W-2 form for that entire session. The only time the machine stops is with the bigger quads or jackpots that require a hand pay.

I have yet to have someone stay with me while playing $25 and $100 slots in the HL rooms. I often take a detour into the Bellagio, Aria, Cosmo, Mirage, and MGM Grand HL slot rooms and take a few shots at these slots. I have gotten many hand pays and the machines always stops. When they come over, they will always ask if I want to keep playing, which I always say no. They then take my ID and come back with cash and w2g. I have never played long enough to get more than one hand pay in the same session, so perhaps they do let it roll for those that are playing for the long haul. For my hit and runs, no one ever folows me or stands behind me. I would never want anyone to stay behind me the whole time either.

So a slot tech basically sitting over your shoulder, sounds like a hassle. I hate having people watch over my shoulder when gambling.

This has never happened to me in the HL slots room. In my experience, I only see an attendant when the machine says get attendant after winning over $1200.

    Side bar:

I was at Caesars with a friend back in the 90's. We walked past a $100 slot and decided we should give it one pull, just to say we had done it. Well, back then, when you put your money in a machine, it "rang up" your credits. (You old dogs know what I'm talking about) We were used to playing quarters, and some dollars at that time, so when you plopped a hundred in a machine, it would take a little while to "ring up" those credits.

You can't imagine the sinking feeling of sticking a hundred dollar bill into a machine and hearing the "ring up" go.........."Ting!" :vomit:

One push later, and our story was done!
