Las Vegas may give rise to more mistakes than a trip to, say, Wichita or someplace. Many of us engage in behavior that would be unthinkable at home or even on a more sedate vacation.

When I was in college and had a bank account with about two hundred dollars in it, I went out to Sin City (which was already a poor fiscal decision to begin with), and spent virtually every dime I possessed on terrible gambling outcomes. The kind of thing where even when I had 20, the dealer would manage a six card 21. I took out a thousand dollars on my credit card, with no plan on how I would manage to pay it back, and wound up losing that, too. I had to sheepishly ask my friends to pay my share of the cab ride to McCarran.

What's the single biggest error in judgment you've ever committed in Vegas? It can be something financial, ethical, pharmaceutical, sexual, marital, or any other type of mistake.

The absolute SINGLE biggest screw up you've ever made in that town.

Mine is easy as we have been going to March Maddness for 30 years. On my flight out I had picked 7 teams I liked to win and cover the spread on the first day. I concluded that hitting all 7 was highly unprobable and decided to just bet a $10 7 team parlay when I arrived. I arrived at Bally's and a long time friend is already there. When I tell him my plan he says why don't you just bet 2 team parlays so you win something. This was very logical advice so he told me of another game he liked and I bet 4 2 Team parlays at $50 each.
You guessed it the 7 games I liked all covered the spread and his team lost. I ended up winning $400 I think but the 7 team parlay I didn't ber would have paid somewhere around $1,300.

I never really totally blew it gambling or anything... But one year I was going with my parents, we always go on an expensive week in September and being the Priceline advocate I am said we should book that way, and we ended up with the Westin lol. I never heard the end of it... that is a nice hotel, but not what you want in Vegas, but it's BS it was in the same zone as "Strip South". You can't refund Priceline for any reason of course..

Oh also, on my 21st I won $600 gambling so I thought it would be awesome to buy these totally god awful white and purple Dior sunglasses that were over $300 haha. I still have them, I laugh every time I pull them out haha. I guess that is what those stores are there for lol.

Oh and we went to see Michael Jason Immortal the first MJ Cirque show, I think it was at Mandalay Bay for a few weeks we paid like $500 for the 3 of us to go (I guess this would be horrible judgement on my Mom's part!). It was horrible. We were really upset when we left!

I've never really made a FU gambling...other than losing, but never went the wrong way on something that I had thought about going the other way.

The one sexual FU I could have made (or maybe it wouldn't have been:wink2::evillaugh) but didn't, was if I went along w/ the offer from the gorgeous hooker that was a dead ringer for Nicole Kidman to go up to the room and surprise my wife for a 3some.

So as boring as it sounds, probably the biggest FU was hotel choices. Where I stay and the gambling vibe I get from that resort "feels like" it plays a big part in my gambling and I'm a firm believer that just because you feel like you're going to win, that doesn't mean you will but pretty much anytome you feel like you're going to lose....you will. I love the decor of casino and the whole property at Bellagio but I have a more negative gambling vibe there than anyplace I can think of. Out trip last Sept, I decided to stay there instead of Encore because a host called me and was looking at our past play from the Mirage and offered us a (small) suite, limo RT and $200/day food where as we only get a room comp at Encore. So....we stay there for our normal 6 day trip and proceed to lose $6K during some of the worse luck gambling I've had in years. Bellagio is now off of my radar forever..just one of those places for me that isn't meant to be.

Deciding to leave Surrender at 2 a.m. to visit the Spearmint Rhino because all the hot girls and alcohol at Surrender had my testosterone revved up. I left the Rhino at like 7 a.m. having been nickel and dimed and bait and switched to hell - maxed out my atm for the day and hit my credit card for two costly cash advances.

Last Oct I spent my entire bankroll for a 3 day trip in about 3 hours. That trip ended up costing me a little more than double what I planned on spending.

Been in the sportsbook all day betting heavy on MLB and was well toasted ........... placed a large bet and forgot to check the ticket.

Been on the ML all day and the cashier hit me up for ATS/RL .......... costed me big at payout. I'm well certain the cashier did it to me on purpose but it was my fault for not checking.

Booking a morning flight home. I'm not the best morning person as it is and I never go to bed early in vegas. I was just wiped that day getting organized to make the plane.

My first experience at a Vegas strip club I went to the back room with the first dancer that approached me (about three seconds after I walked into the place). Back then, I was too naive to know to say no. Later in the night I chatted with a dancer I would have much preferred to spend time with, but I had already spent my money on dances with the first woman.

I learned something from the experience though, since now I know better.

    This past New Year's

NYE was Tuesday, NYD was Wednesday and we were flying out on Thursday, Jan 2
Thinking we'd have plenty of time; we had a low SWA boarding #, taking a limo in, it was early flight, one bag to check and figuring LAS' experience in dealing with large crowds, I thought we'd have plenty of time arriving at LAS 1.5 hours prior to our flight.

    WRONG

Line to just check a bag was hundreds deep and went into an employee parking lot. By the time we got to the door to check our bag, the line was easily a thousand or so deep.

We technically did not make our flight, they closed the door just as we got there, running through the airport and the C gates.
Where I got lucky was, I noticed the plane wasn't moving and they changed agents, so I asked, "Is that flight full? I'm supposed to be on it" and she checked, and it wasn't, and they re-opened it for my wife and I

But lesson learned, on a REALLY BIG weekend, you need to get to McCarran at least 3 hours early.

ML - money line = straight bet

ATS/RL -- "against the spread" or in baseball its known as the "run line" = cover the spread

My biggest mistake in Vegas happened between 1992-1996. And it wasn't from gambling.
    Rent-A-Vette. Plain and simple.

So what did i decide to do? I fully maxed out my CC's at Rent-A-Vette.
I would have my own car parked in the hotel garage, call the dudes at RAV to pick me up, scope out the rental cars, and then choose a new Vette, Mercedes SLK, Ferrari, the Prowler (remember those?), etc.etc.

I used my CC's like it was play money on the Monopoly board.
My bill with insurance (i had my own but they talked me into it buying theirs) was astronomical, even way back then). I never maxed out my CC's with anything other than expensive cars in Vegas for 4 years.

I would drive up and down the Strip to show that i might be someone important, like a celebrity (even though i live in MB where many celebs and athletes reside).

It was an addiction, i would purposely slow down to hit a red light in my Vette, or SLK, Ferrari, Prowler, with the top down, even on cold nights ( i would have the heat on while freezing by butt off). I would love having the people in the crossing walk eyeing my wheels and seeing me with my cap on low with sunglasses on, even at night (thanks Cory Hart), while wondering if i was somebody, while i was still looking straight ahead (trying to be cool with the radio full blast). I think in a way it was because the NEW strip was changing from the old, from Excalibur/Mirage, to Monte Carlo/Bellagio in the early to mid 90's, and feeling this new energy transformed me into a kid in a candy store. I also think KOMP FM was partly responsible to my addiction.

I finally paid off my debt and learned a valuable lesson..........never try to impress people with monetary things. I am very comfortable financially, always have been, but the adrenaline rush with being in Vegas, combined with the sudden desire to be seen by tourists in a relatively small area as someone that i thought i was, was a big mistake.

I was one of those single guys renting an expensive car with the top down, not for a few hours or a day, but many days each trip, and loved it, like you would see and still see on the Strip with women posing next to a Ferrari to have their pic taken. My addiction wasn't to pick up women with my wheels, it was just to have them wonder what could have been been. I did this nonsense for about 4 years in Vegas. It was really really stupid.

Having passed my "brief faze" after "96, and seeing the Strip as it is now, i'd much rather walk (albeit more slowly than before), from Mandalay Bay to Wynn. It's a heck of a lot cheaper AND many more women to gawk at.......although i still wear my Bruins and Red Sox cap WITH sunglasses on, even at midnight.........:wink2:

First time at the Rhino I had two Russian dancers approach me about taking them back to VIP before I even sat down. I declined. They followed me through the club, and damn if it wasn't very tempting to cave and say yes. I had to change my tone and stop smiling to get them to leave.

But yeah, I feel like most strip club vets automatically say no to the first girl, but I've had a couple long nights in the club when I wish I had just said yes to that first girl. They are sometimes the most friendly, likable ones.

Not enough water. Between the dry heat and the booze it always catches up to me and I waste part of a day in Vegas barely functioning while I drink 6 gatorades to get my body right.

My favorite thing about this website is that two consecutive comments can involve (1) stripper strategies, followed immediately by (2) bringing a four year old to Circus Circus. Ah, Vegas Message Board. There's nothin' like it!

But seriously...I've enjoyed reading these stories and hope there are others out there who will still post on this thread.

My biggest mistake was a fail. I was at the Baccarat bar one night with a friend of mine. We see 2 age appropriate women sit down. We get some eye contact and we discuss wether we should go over a say hello or not. Both of us are p***ies when it comes to this. While we are discussing this for way too long 2 guys come in and chat the ladies up.

    FAIL!

My other big mistake was tilting at poker a few times and being a jerk to the other player when I should have just gotten up and walked my tilt off.
