    My Trip Report

Had a business trip in CA. Decided to swing through las vegas for a few days before I return to the cold east coast.

Quad rooms – construction begins; tower 1+2 elevators were closed. These are the most popular elevators (bank of 4) next to Fat Tuesday. Guests had to use the tower 3 elevators (bank of 2) behind Fat Tuesday. On the room floors, they built a temporary wall between the two elevator banks; guests were forced to use tower 3 elevators. I often took the long walk through the hallways and used tower 5. I did not hear any construction noise throughout the day. I am assuming it has not started, but ready to start soon. My bed was comfortable, room was clean but very worn.

Fire alarm went off at 3:25AM one morning. I was drunk, took Benadryl before bed, and had earplugs in; it woke me right up and scared me half to death. It was a false alarm. 1st time this has happened in my 25 trips to Vegas, I guess I was overdue. Casino looks great (construction continues); O’Sheas is small, but it’s a lot of fun. I like that they brought back the bands. Linq looks great, will be even better once everything was open. I was allowed to take pictures. I purposely did it right it front of security with no confrontation. Quad now has a high-end Mexican restaurant (high-end for the quad), that is connected to the Linq.

Pedestrian bridge between Bills and Ballys was closed. To get to Flamingo from Ballys, you had to cross Ballys to Bellagio, then Bellagio to Ceasars, then Ceasars to Flamingo/Bills. The Bellagio/Ceasar bridge was mobbed every time I crossed. It was actually a little scary, lines were building by the Bellagio entrance. The Bellagio doors could not handle the capacity. And people don’t know how to walk through the circular doors.

Lions Share – I walked by 3 times, including one time at 8:00 AM. It was always occupied with a line of 2-3 people waiting.

Freebet Blackjack - it was like crack. I won $800 the first time I played betting between $10-$25; it was the greatest game ever. Then over the next couple of days, she slowly took it all back and then some.

Video Poker – was horrible. It seem like every time I hit the multiplier on STP, I would get nothing.

Adventuredome and CC - love coasters. I wanted to ride the new EL loco. This is a fun coaster, short ride, but smooth; if you like coasters give it a shot. I know CC gets bashed, but they did a real nice job in that entire adventure dome; they pack a lot in that small area. Also saw a very entertaining juggler in the free circus act area, she was juggling a coffee table with her feet.

Story time. I am in line for El loco, when a little girl of about 12 walks up to the line with her dad. She says “wait dad I am scared”, she looks at me, “can I ride with you, do you mind” -- I say “sure” – dad says to us “thanks, I’ll be by the exit “ dad walks away. Girl says to me, “your not gonna creep on me, right” - I was a little shocked and I laughed “NO”. I would use this line the rest of the trip. Everytime I would go to a bar, anytime a woman was next to me I would say. “don’t worry, I wont creep on you”

Downtown – I took quick stroll through the grand. I did not play, but it was very nice. They could give the nugget some competion if they play there cards right. Container park had some nice shops, there was a guy doing an acoustic set in the park who was very talented. I stopped in Don’t Tell Mama for a couple of drinks. This was a very fun place, the bartenders serve and sing; definitely will be returning later in the year when I bring my wife with me. All the Irish bands were playing out in Fremont, including a U2 cover band. Very different, but a lot of fun. Zipline was still closed. I played at the D, I loved the atmosphere, I thought the music was good; not too loud; not too soft; just right. (I am 47). Wanted to check out Banger Brewery, but there was no room at the bar. I did not want to sit at a table solo.

Johnny Deep pirates fight – In front of Planet Hollywood, I saw 2 of these guys get into a big heated argument. I am going to assume it was some type of turf war. It was about to go to blows, when security finally stepped in.

Poker – saved me this tripped. Won about $1500 playing poker (lost 2K playing everything else). One memorable hand from Golden nugget 1-2 NL. I had black kings. Opponent who was very aggressive, raising with anything preflop; he was also 3 betting a lot. Anyway opponent opens for his standard $15 preflop, I reraise to $40 preflop, he makes it $120 preflop; normally I would puke at this 4 bet and consider a fold, but this guy is very aggressive and has been doing it with garbage; I go all in for about $580, he instacalls with his red Aces. Flop is A,J,4 all spades, turn 5 spades, river 10 spades. He takes the beat like a boss, and puts $1000 more on the table.

Myvegas – I had vouchers for the Aria buffet and the Mirage buffet. I thought they were both very good. I recommend them both; Aria was better. I know these 2 buffets get bashed a lot; I just don’t get it.

Had my Sunday pasta at Grand Lux - always my favorite meal under $20. Always look forward to having this every vegas trip

    Thanks for reading

Thanks for the great report. I still get shocked that parents drop off young children like that then walk away. Why not at least stay on line with his daughter until she gets on the ride if he was that much against getting on the roller coaster himself.

Thanks for the Quad and Linq updates. I'm more than happy to play at the Quad/Linq but I don't think I want to stay there during the construction phase.

I watched that U2 cover band a few years ago, they rocked!!!

Nice win at the poker table.

    Thanks for posting.

I laughed at the "creep" story. Reminds me of a "where do kids get this stuff from" story of my own. I was on a cub scout campout with my kid. They were all about 11 or 12 year old boys. One kid was eating some candy out of a box that he was holding about chest high. I was looking over at that box of candy, staring intently at it, and in a deep voice said, "Mmmmm, that sure looks good."
The kid splits his fingers and taps his eyes (like when somebody says "I'll be watching you") and says, "Up here sailor!" :evillaugh Still makes me laugh thinking about it.

I have a poker story almost exactly like yours too. I was in Biloxi. Playing intoxicated. sigh. I got kings. I three bet. The bad guy reraises. My stupid intoxicated mind thinks, "Yay, more money for me." I reraise, he all ins, I call. He turns Aces of course. I catch a king on the turn. I felt bad for a minute, being the stupid one, but winning anyway. I won about $800 on that hand.

Nice report. Thanks for posting. Were they doing something on Bill's outside that made them close the pedestrian bridge? What a pain if that is a long term thing.

Free Bet Blackjack is my new passion. Where did you play it?

Oh, and you might have gotten further with the ladies at the bars if instead of saying, "I won't creep on you" say, "You're not going to creep on me are you?" lol

Nice report! Loved your (and Big Tip's) kid stories.

As for poker, two years ago I get my money All In with pre flop with pocket aces only to have pocket kings flop a set against me … two times in two days … against two women. Last year my aces held up against Kings All In, then the next day my pocket kings All In beat pocket Aces. These things tend to even out … eventually.

Played Free Bet Blackjack at Golden Gate and the D in the party pits, and BJ paid 3-2. I tried to play at Casino Royal, but the tables were always jammed. I am hoping that bridge is a short term thing. It was just normal construction at both Ballys and Bills. I crossed at Bellagio/Ceasars twice at night during prime time. The bridge was packed like sardines and pedestrian traffic moved slow. A couple of times during the day it was packed, but you had some breathing room. The rest of the trip I used the monorail or the bus.

Good thing you didn't get on a Free Bet table at Casino Royale as their tables only pay 6/5 on black jacks. Mirage has the game at 3/2.

I forgot about the Bally's construction starting up. That bridge might be closed for awhile. Yuck.

    Love the ending line!

Turf war sounds interesting, would have been better in front of TI...

It's hard to avoid that center strip area

I'm going to try my best next week it's such a zoo the last few years. Plus I 've vowed to not give CET one penny.

That's why I like playing poker at the Golden nugget. There is no cap. I usually buy in for $300; if you lose your buyin to a weak player, you can buy back in for $500-$600. Once the aggressive player added 1K to his small stack I was not too happy, I knew if we tangled it was going to be expensive. So I played very tight for about 10 more minutes, and decided to lock up my $900 dollar win. Then I gave most of it back playing free bet blackjack at the Golden Gate.

I've read on another post that the Ballys-Cromwell bridge is now open. It was probably closed for just a few days.

Free Bet Blackjack is my go-to game!

Aria has it for 3/2 for BJ also. :)

Great report! Man! I hope the construction is mostly done in late June. Loved the look of the Linq area when we were there in February and can't wait to get on the High Roller, or whatever it's called, though I will be scared shiftless. Funny kid stories and good poker stories too.

Oh BTW, I hated to hear about the Johnny Depp pirate scuffle. I am friends with Captain Jack on fb, and he seems to be a really great guy. Hope nothing really crazy happened.

Best way to describe it. They were arguing, it started to get a bit heated; it started to attract a small crowd. Then 2 security guards (1 regular, 1 in suit) came running out, and the situation calmed down pretty quickly.

I was thinking the same thing....definitely would have gotten more mileage. It is kind of scary how the Dad didn't wait.

I really enjoyed your TR. The elevators at Quad sound like a nightmare. The Johnny Depp fight sounds entertaining. I've seen one that gangs out in front of PHo and he is JD hot in that costume, but then I think of that last time the costume was probably laundered and I snap out of it.
